Nebraska (1), Minnesota (2), and Wisconsin (3) earned Top-3 seeds and have the potential to play on their home courts until the Final Four, while Michigan State (9), Michigan (12), and Penn State (16) also earned the chance to host the first and second rounds as a top seed. Ohio State and Purdue also earned selections to the NCAA Tournament, though Michigan is the only Big Ten team in the Texas quadrant of the bracket. Michigan at Home Following a 3-0 sweep of Michigan State on Wednesday (Nov. 23), the highly ranked Wolverines finished the regular season with a 15-2 record when playing at home, with their only home losses coming against No. 1 Nebraska and then-no. 1 Wisconsin. Michigan held opponents to just a.197 hitting percentage when playing inside Cliff Keen Arena, winning 44 sets and dropping just 14. The Wolverines lone five-set home loss came against then-no. 1 Wisconsin in which Michigan fell by a narrow score in set five. Of Michigan s 15 victories inside Keen, six were sweeps, and three came over AVCA Top-25 opponents. 23-Win Mark A victory over Northwestern on Nov. 5 allowed Michigan to reach the 20-win mark with six matches to go in the 2016 regular season, matching their nine-win conference record from last year. With additional victories over Indiana (Nov. 9), Michigan State (Nov. 23), and American (Dec. 1), Michigan has now reached 23 wins for the first time since the 2012 campaign, when the Wolverines made their first-ever Final Four appearance. The Big Ten and the Top-25 After defeating No. 14 Michigan State on Wednesday and dropping a four-set match to No. 1 Nebraska on Saturday of last week, Michigan rose one spot in the AVCA Coaches Poll to receive a NO. 17 ranking with 610 votes. The Wolverines broke into the poll 13 weeks ago at the No. 22-spot, and are one of six Big Ten teams represented in this week s Top-25 poll. At this point, Big Ten competitors Minnesota (1), Nebraska (2) and Wisconsin (3) sit inside the top ten, while Penn State (13), Michigan State (15) and Michigan (17) round out the top 18 teams. Finally, Ohio State and Purdue are both receiving votes and sit just outside the top 25. Cole, Welsh, and Murphy Garner All-Big Ten Honors University of Michigan volleyball senior Abby Cole was selected to the 2016 All-Big Ten Conference First Team, and freshman MacKenzi Welsh received a selection to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team, it was announced by the Big Ten Conference office on Tuesday (Nov. 29). Michigan red-shirt senior Kelly Murphy also earned postseason accolades as Michigan s Sportsmanship Award winner. Both Cole and Murphy serve as captains for Michigan. Lerg Named B1G Defensive Player of the Week After averaging 4.9 digs per set with two double-digit dig outings last week against Michigan State and Nebraska, sophomore libero Jenna Lerg was named the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week. She finished the week with 34 total digs, including 14 in a three-set sweep of No. 14-ranked Michigan State and 20 against No. 1-ranked Nebraska. Her performance in Lincoln, Nebraska, clinched her 500th dig of the season, and she is just the sixth Wolverine in school history to achieve such a feat. The award is her second Big Ten weekly honor this season, as she was named the B1G Co-Defensive player of the week in September after averaging 6.5 digs per set at the Panther Invitational and earned a selection to the alltournament team. She finished that weekend with three double-digit dig outings, including a career-high 39 digs against Pittsburgh, tying for third all-time at Michigan for digs in a single match. Kieffer-Wright stays hot Junior middle blocker Claire Kieffer-Wright has been a force at the net this season, totaling double-figure kills in each of the last eight matches. The junior picked up a career-high 16 kills during a five-set loss to No. 2-ranked Minnesota, and she s reached double-digit kills in 14 total matches so far this year. From her position in the front row, Kieffer-Wright has also led the Wolverines in blocks 19 times this season, including each of Michigan s three wins over top-25 opponents. She s also led the Wolverines in kills in five separate matches during the 2016 season, despite leading Michigan just six times during her first two seasons with the Maize and Blue. Michigan vs. Top-25 Opponents The Wolverines have faced an AVCA Top-25 opponent on ten separate occasions this season, totaling three wins and seven losses. Five of those losses, however, came to teams ranked in the top-3, while Michigan s victories came against Ohio State (Oct. 9), Penn State (Oct. 22), and Michigan State (Nov. 23). All of Michigan s wins over teams ranked in the Top-25 came at home inside Cliff Keen Arena. Welsh Earns Fourth B1G Weekly Honor Freshman setter MacKenzi Welsh earned her fourth Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor in five weeks after averaging 11.4 assists per set in a week that included victories over Illinois and Northwestern. She picked up her eighth and ninth assist-dig double-doubles on the season during the two-day stretch, averaging 3.38 digs per set. The freshman also guided Michigan to a.308 attack percentage on Saturday in a four-set win over Northwestern, marking the third time that the Wolverines have hit better than.300 this season in Big Ten play. Additionally, she assisted four players to double-figure kills against Illinois and three against Northwestern. Career-High Outings Michigan has seen multiple individual career-outings so far this season, including setting re-setting new careerhighs. Earlier this season, red-shirt freshman Cori Crocker set a new personal-best with eight blocks against Iowa (Sep. 24). In addition, red-shirt senior Kelly Murphy tallied a career-high 21 kills in a four-set win over Kansas State (Sep. 2), while Carly Skjodt totaled a career-high 27 kills in a win over No. 9 Penn State (Oct. 22). Freshman setter MacKenzi Welsh has had multiple career outings in her debut season, including a career-high 67 assists against No. 9 Penn State as well as 19 digs in a five-set loss to Pitt (Sep. 9), adding a career-high 6 kills against No. 1-ranked Wisconsin. Defensively, sophomore libero Jenna Lerg nearly broke a school record with a career-high 39 digs against Pitt (Sep. 9) to rank third all-time in school history for digs in a single match. Finally, Tiffany Clark picked up a career-high 20 digs in Michigan s five-set win

4 PAGE 4 over No. 9 Penn State (Oct. 22) Record through Non-Conference The Maize and Blue jumped into Big Ten Conference play on Friday, Sept. 23 with an 11-1 record in hand and a No. 22 AVCA ranking. With just one loss through non-conference play, the 11-1 mark signaled the eighth season in Michigan s 44-year history that the Wolverines began their season with an 11-1 record or better. Michigan Dominates All-Tournament Squads Michigan finished the non-conference half of the season with 12 all-tournament team selections. Senior Abby Cole was named the MVP of the Michigan Invitational, the K-State Invite, and the Michigan/EMU Challenge tournaments, while Claire Kieffer-Wright and Jenna Lerg also earned selections to two all-tournament teams apiece. Finally, MacKenzi Welsh, Adeja Lambert, Kelly Murphy, and Carly Skjodt each earned one all-tournament selection. The Wolverines were 11-1 this season in non-conference tournament play, with just one loss on the road to Pittsburgh, who earned a selection to the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
