36 PAGE 34 MISCELLANEOUS On September 6, 2006, Lake's home Federal League match against the Hoover Vikings started out as a typical match. The second half was a different story. Fog rolled in and blanketed the stadium, reducing visibility to thirty yards. Jessica Wilson scored a goal by sneaking the ball into the right side of the goal with 1:11 left in the match to give the Blue Streaks the 1-0 victory. Many people in the stands missed the goal due to the visibilty issue. moon ball Jessica Wilson's match-winning shot On September 26th, 1995, Lake hosted a Federal League match against the GlenOak Golden Eagles. In the tight match, with the score 0-0, Melissa Curzi netted a goal to give the Streaks a 1-0 lead late in the contest. With time running down, during play, someone in Lake's home stands blew a whistle. Lake's sweeper, thinking it was a referee's whistle, picked up the ball in the penalty area. The referee witnessed the handling and awarded GlenOak a penalty kick, which they subsequently made. The match ended 1-1. One week later, the Streaks tied the Jackson Polar Bears 2-2. That meant the GlenOak match cost the Streaks what would have been their first Federal League title. Kathy Stuck, a Blue Streak goalkeeper for years , recorded 709 career saves. That mark still ranks as the 13th Most Career Saves in Ohio High School Athletic Association girl's soccer history. Alexis Meffert scored the 1,000 th goal in program history ( vs. Massillon). Elizabeth Romigh assisted on the goal. The 1995 squad (13-2-4) played the entire season without being shut out. They are the only team that has accomplished that feat. Helping achieve the streak was Lindy Frank (16 goals), Laura Horning (14), Sarah Bowers (6), Erin Conrad (6), Melissa Curzi (6), Danielle Tucker (6), Elaine Krause (4), Lydia Conrad (3), Christina Seifert (2), Carrie Bills (1), Kelly Moorhead (1) and Marla Wood (1). Prior to the installation of the field turf, playing at Lake stadium in the rain offered a myriad of issues to deal with: mud, dirt, water and slipping. The turf was installed in time for the Fall 2008 season. HOW THE 2013 FEDERAL LEAGUE TITLE WAS EARNED: On September 4th, 2013, Rachel Bernardo netted a 30-yard free kick to give the Streaks a 1-0 lead over Jackson. The Bears scored their only goal 9 minutes later to force a Federal League draw. Jackson would lose 1-0 to GlenOak two weeks later to put a title within the Streaks' grasp when they traveled to GlenOak on October 2nd. Taylor Smith scored a first-half goal that held up until the Eagles equalized with 7:31 left in the match. With time winding down, Carol Mata laced a cross to Alexis Meffert who blazed the ball past the goalkeeper with 2:32 left. That secured Lake's first and only Federal League soccer title to-date. It ended a streak of four-straight titles by Jackson.
