Junior middle blocker Inky Ajanaku is third nationally with a.448 hitting percentage, while redshirt freshman middle blocker Merete Lutz is fifth with a.435 clip. SCHOOL RECORD: Senior libero Kyle Gilbert set a school record with 40 digs against Arizona on Nov. 7. The previous record of 33 was set by herself in 2013 and Gabi Ailes in She also racked up 31 digs against Arizona State on Nov. 5, and was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts. RPI: The Cardinal continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the RPI this week. She is posting career highs in kills (2.56 kps), digs (2.07 dps), points (3.06 pps) and hitting percentage (.297). PAC-12 NUMBERS: Stanford leads the Pac-12 in conference matches this season in kills (15.00). The Cardinal also ranks second in Pac-12 matches in hitting percentage (.304), opponent hitting percentage (.190), assists (13.96) and digs (17.25), and is third in blocks (2.54). DYNAMIC DUO: Stanford s middle blockers, Inky Ajanaku and Merete Lutz, took home two of the three weekly awards from the conference on Oct. 27. Ajanaku nabbed Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Cardinal with 3.88 kills and 4.63 points on a.436 hitting percentage against No. 17 UCLA and No. 19 USC. Lutz collected her second Freshman of the Week honor, averaging 3.00 kills and 1.88 blocks per set with a.489 attack percentage. DEFENSE WAS KEY: Junior setter Madi Bugg was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 20 after wins at Colorado and Utah. The Apex, N.C., native averaged 3.56 digs and 0.44 blocks per set, while also posting assists per set. The political science major tied her career high with 17 digs at Colorado and registered 15 at Utah. Has taken 10 teams to the Final Four, including six of the 13 he has coached at Stanford. Has taken his team to the NCAA Tournament in each one of his 29 seasons and won more than 75 percent of his postseason matches. She led the team with 13 kills and four blocks against the Ducks and hit a career high.714 ( ) against the Beavers. WEEKLY RECOGNITION FOR AJANAKU: Stanford junior middle blocker Inky Ajanaku was named the AVCA National Player of the Week (9/9) and the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week (9/8) after her performances against then-no. 1 Penn State and then-no. 9 Illinois. It marks her second national honor and her second straight defensive award from the conference. STARTING SIX: Stanford s first six matches of the year were against opponents who appeared in last year s NCAA Tournament, including 2013 champion Penn State. Five of the six were ranked in the top 25 of the AVCA poll (then-no. 1 Penn State, then-no. 7 Nebraska, then-no. 9 Illinois, then-no. 20 Duke and then-no. 19 San Diego), while Iowa State was receiving votes. ALL-AMERICANS: Stanford returns four of its five All-Americans from last season, including AVCA first-team selection Inky Ajanaku (Jr., MB, human biology) and AVCA second-team pick Madi Bugg (Jr., S, political science). Additionally, Kyle Gilbert (Sr., L, management science & engineering) and Jordan Burgess (Jr., OH, human biology) were tabbed honorable mention by the AVCA in BY THE NUMBERS: The Stanford women s volleyball program has won more NCAA Tournament matches (104), made more Final Four appearances (18) and been in the national championship match (14) more times than any other program in the nation. The Cardinal has captured 18 conference championships and produced 30 or more wins on 16 occasions. Stanford, along with Penn State, has won the most NCAA titles (6) and appeared in all 33 NCAA Tournaments, having won all 33 of its first-round matches. NATIONAL POLL: Stanford continues to hold the top spot in the AVCA poll, garnering 54 of 60 first-place votes. Along with the Cardinal, No. 2 Washington and No. 3 Florida State remain undefeated on the season. No. 4 Wisconsin and No. 5 Texas round out the top 5. A record nine Pac-12 squads are ranked in the top 20 (No. 10 Oregon, No. 14 Arizona, No. 18 UCLA, No. 19 Arizona State, No. 21 USC and No. 22 Colorado). PAC-12 COACHES POLL: For the 13th time since 1986, the Pac-12 coaches picked Stanford to win the conference. The Cardinal garnered 114 points, just one ahead of second-place USC. Washington came in third, while Arizona State and California rounded out the top 5. The coaches have correctly chosen the conference champion in 17 of the previous 28 polls. PAC-12 IN CHINA: Juniors Madi Bugg and Brittany Howard were members of the 2014 Pac-12 All-Star team that competed in China in June. The squad played seven matches, led by Oregon head coach Jim Moore, and was also able to sightsee and get a cultural experience of the country.

The Cardinal finished second in the Pac-12 with a 17-3 conference mark. Inky Ajanaku and Carly Wopat were named AVCA First Team All-Americans, while Madi Bugg earned second team accolades and Kyle Gilbert and Jordan Burgess were honorable mention. TAKING ON THE BEST: Once again, head coach John Dunning has lined up one of the most challenging schedules in the nation for the Cardinal. Stanford is slated to play 10 regular-season matches against teams ranked in the preseason poll, and 22 against teams that appeared in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. HEAD COACH JOHN DUNNING: Now in his 14th season at the helm of the Cardinal program, head coach John Dunning is one of the most accomplished coaches in the collegiate volleyball world. Dunning has four national championships under his belt, has taken teams to nine Final Fours and carried six of his 13 Stanford teams to the national title match. MILESTONE FOR DUNNING: John Dunning secured his 800th career win on Nov. 22, 2013 against Washington State. In 29 years as a head coach, he is (.831), giving him a winning percentage that ranks among the top-5 all-time for Division I coaches. Dunning is in his 13 seasons on The Farm, leading all active coaches in the conference by winning percentage (.854). SCOUTING USC: USC enters the week with a overall record and in a threeway tie for sixth place in the Pac-12 at 7-7. The Trojans are coming off a 3-0 sweep on the road at then-no. 21 Colorado last week after being swept by Utah. The Trojans are second in the Pac-12 in service aces (1.49) and rank fifth in hitting percentage (.253). Junior outside hitter Samantha Bricio leads the conference with 0.77 aces per set and ranks fourth in points (5.22) and seventh in kills (4.17). Junior Ebony Nwanebu, the 2013 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, adds 3.07 kills and 1.17 digs per set. Sophomore libero Taylor Whittingham holds down the defense with 4.69 digs per set, ranking second in the conference. THE SERIES WITH THE TROJANS: Stanford leads USC in the all-time series.
