For the second time in her career, freshman Madison Lilley won SEC Player and Setter of the Week for her performance in the opening week of conference play. 4 NOTES Scouting the Opponent Mississippi State Mississippi State is 9-9 overall this season and 0-3 in the SEC, with losses to South Carolina, Tennesse and Ole Miss. The Bulldogs are 5-5 in the Newell-Grissom Building this season, with wins over Grambling, Louisiana Tech South Florida, Jacksonville State, and Southeastern Louisiana. As a team, MSU is averaging 12 kills a set and hitting.184. Jelena Vujcin leads the Bulldogs with 3.55 kills per set, and also averages 2.09 digs per frame. Offensive Player of the Week Sophomore Leah Edmond earned her first award of the season after her play against Missouri and LSU. Edmond was on fire during her first two SEC matches of the season. She swung at a.442 attacking clip in the two wins, including a career-best.485 in the four-set win over Missouri. In her career night, she added 18 kills and committed just two errors on 33 swings. She hit double-digits for the 11th time this season against LSU with a.386 attacking percentage. Kentucky produced nine aces against the Tigers, with Edmond and Lilley both posting a team-high three. Rumely is the only player in program history to be named SEC Freshman of the Year (2006) and SEC Player of the Year (2008). She earned two-time AVCA All-American, four-time All-SEC, and Academic All-American third team honors. Rumely led her team to the NCAA tournament four times, including the Sweet 16 in She finished her career owning UK records in career assists (5,703) and aces (165). Chasing Records Kaz Brown is climbing the 25-point rally scoring era record book in multiple categories. The Waterloo, Iowa, native is currently in second in solo blocks (51). The senior is also seventh in kills at 826 and 10th in attack attempts at 1,712. Emily Franklin is currently ninth in block solos with 30, third in blocks assists at 298 and fourth in total blocks at 328. Franklin also has the sixth-highest attacking percentage in the rally scoring era at.319. Darian Mack is moving up the 25-point rally scoring era record book in kills and points. Mack is ninth all-time with 708 kills and seventh in attacks with 1,890. The Wildcats totaled 81 kills, the highest for a four-set match in program history. The total was an impressive 12 kills higher than the previous record of 69, which was set last year against Texas A&M. The Cats 81 kills were the highest in program history, two above the five-set record of 79 that was set in UK s attacking percentage was.451, the highest ever in a four-set match. The previous match record was 5

6 NOTES.398, set in 2011 against South Carolina. Four-Players put up double-digit kills in the win while freshman Madison Lilley posted 65 assists. Three Set Records Kentucky started the Marquette Invitational the same way it ended it. Kentucky had 43 kills on just 83 attack attempts, a program record at.548, and committed just three errors. Eleven players recorded at least one termination in the victory and 16 players got into the match. 65 Again? That ll Earn SEC Player of the Week Freshman Madison Lilley has had an impressive start of her collegiate career. Lilley was named SEC Player and Setter of the Week for the first time after helping the Cats set multiple offensive records. She accomplished something no other Wildcat has in the 25-point rally scoring era after posting her second-career match of 65 assists in the win over Marquette. Lilley has four double-doubles this season. Career-High Kill Total Leah Edmond put up a career-high 26 kills in the win over Marquette. The match was her second-career 25+ kill total, making her the second Wildcat in the 25-point rally scoring era to have two matches of 25+ in her career. She has nine matches with 20 or more terminations, the highest in the 25-point rally scoring era. Two on the Bluejay Invite All-Tournament Team After going 2-1 in the Bluejay Invitational with wins over Northern Iowa and No. 18 Southern California, sophomore Leah Edmond and freshman Madison Lilley were named to the Bluejay Invitational All-Tournament team. Edmond had two double-doubles in both wins of the tournament and averaged a team-high 4.60 kills per set and 2.40 digs per set. Lilley also posted two double-doubles over the weekend, and averaged assists per set. Against UNI, Lilley posted an impressive 65 helpers. 65+ Sophomore Madison Lilley became just the third player in the 25-point rally scoring era to rack up 65 or more assists in a single match during the five-set thriller with Northern Iowa. Lilley posted 65 assists in just her fifth match of her career. She joins Kentucky setters Morgan Bergren and Elizabeth Koberstein, who each did it once. Breakout Performance from Skinner After a slow start in the Bluegrass Invitational, freshman Avery Skinner busted out in a big way in the Bluejay Invitational and the match at Kansas. Skinner posted an impressive 4.13 kills per frame, and hit double-digit kills in every match. She hit her career-high of 19 in the five-set thriller against Northern Iowa. Three Ranked Teams in Four Days Last weekend, for the first time in school history the Wildcats played three ranked teams in a four day span. UK earned one win, over No. 18 USC, 3-1 on Saturday. All four Kentucky opponents last weekend were ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25. Not a Bad Start Madison Lilley registered two double-doubles in her first two career matches for the Wildcats. Lilley opened her career with 30 assists and 11 digs against Arkansas State and helped UK earn a top-25 win over Utah with 42 assists and 12 scoops. She became the first UK setter since UK Hall of Famer Sarah Rumely in 2009 to have a double-double in two of her first three matches of a season. 7 NOTES Bluegrass Battle Champions After going 3-0 on opening weekend with wins over Arkansas State, Cincinnati and No. 23 Utah, Kentucky took home the Bluegrass Battle championship. Leah Edmond was named the tournament s MVP after recording 45 kills during the three matches. She was joined by Kaz Brown and McKenzie Watson on the all-tournament team. Academic Awards For the third-consecutive season, the Kentucky volleyball program earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award honoring the Cats 3.43 cumulative grade-point average for the academic year. Kentucky also posted a perfect APR. Best Recruiting Class Ever Kentucky s recruiting class was the highest in program history at No. 5 The No. 5 class in the nation includes No. 4 Madison Lilley, No. 32 Avery Skinner, No. 46 Gabby Curry and No. 81 Kendyl Paris. Transfer Merideth Jewell also joined the team from Morehead State. Representing the USA Multiple Wildcats represented the USA. Gabby Curry and Leah Edmond put on the Red, White and Blue for the USA Women s Junior National Team that played in Mexico at the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women s U20 World Championship. The USA finished in seventh place after beating Bulgaria in the seventh-place classification match. Kaz Brown competed in Thailand for USA Volleyball, while Olivia Dailey competed for the Collegiate National Team in Minneapolis. Returning Production Kentucky is slated to return 91.9 percent of its leading kill production, including its top-five terminators in Leah Edmond, Kaz Brown, Darian Mack, Emily Franklin and Brooke Morgan. Edmond led the team with 450 kills last season. Defensively, UK returns 97.8 percent of its blocking numbers and 84.5 percent of its dig production. Brown, who already holds numerous 25-point rally scoring era records, is UK s leading returning blocker with 151 rejections a season ago. 9 COACHING STAFF HEAD COACH CRAIG SKINNER Since being tabbed Kentucky s head coach in December 2004, Craig Skinner has rejuvenated the Kentucky volleyball program into national prominence once again. Skinner has directed the Wildcats to 12 consecutive NCAA Tournaments - a feat only 10 other schools in the nation have achieved. That run includes THREE Sweet Sixteen appearances. 10 MEMORIAL COLISEUM Playing in the friendly confines of Memorial Coliseum is a tremendous home-court advantage for the Kentucky volleyball team, which plays all of its matches in the historic facility.
