UK earned a 3-1 win over South Carolina and lost to Florida, 3-0. Coming off a loss to Florida, UK bounced back with a 3-1 win over South Carolina. Leah Edmond led the way with her fifth double-double of the season after posting 19 kills and 11 digs, and also recorded a career-high five aces in the win. When Kentucky hosted Florida on Wednesday, the Big Blue Nation showed up in a big way with 5,236 fans in attendance for the top-ranked matchup. The crowd was the third largest in Memorial Coliseum history, and the largest at Memorial in the Craig Skinner era. 4 NOTES KENTUCKY VOLLEYBALL Scouting the Opponent Alabama Alabama is overall this season and 4-8 in the SEC, with league wins over South Carolina, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Arkansas. Kentucky faced the Crimson Tide earlier this season inside Memorial Coliseum, where the Cats won in four sets. Avery Skinner led Kentucky with 19 kills, while Madison Lilley dished out 54 assists and produced 11 digs. The Crimson Tide are led by Ginger Perinar at 3.04 kills per set, but she has only appeared in 20 matches. Leah Lawrence and Christine Jarman have played every match this season and average 2.42 and 2.40 kills per set, respectively. Meghan Neelon averages 10.1 assists per frame while Bama has hit.186 as a team this season. Bouncing Back in a Big Way Coming off a loss to Florida, UK bounced back with a 3-1 win over South Carolina. Harper Hempel, making her first appearance in the match, served the match winning ace in the fifth set. In Front of the Hometown Crowd Two Texan Wildcats had a homecoming in the three set sweep of Texas A&M on Sunday. Inside Reed Arena, Katy, Texas native Avery Skinner had a team-high 12 kills in the win on 25 swings, and also recorded one block. With what seemed like the entire city of East Bernard, Texas in attendance, senior Ashley Dusek posted a match high 11 digs and also had one ace. 14 Straight Wins UK won 14 straight from Sept. 9 to Nov. 3 Emily Franklin was on fire, hitting.495 while averaging 2.29 kills per set and 1.22 blocks per frame in the streak. Chasing Records Kaz Brown is climbing the 25-point rally scoring era record book in multiple categories. The Waterloo, Iowa, native is currently in first in solo blocks (56), block assists (467) and total blocks (523). The senior is also fifth in kills at 917 and ninth in attack attempts at 1,884. Emily Franklin is currently ninth in block solos with 31, third in blocks assists at 332 and third in total blocks at 363. Franklin also has the fifth-highest attacking percentage in the rally scoring era at.334. Darian Mack is moving up the 25-point rally scoring era record book in kills and points. Mack is 9th all-time with 774 kills and seventh in attacks with 2,045. In total points, she is in 10th with Ashley Dusek is currently third in the rally scoring era with 1,386 digs and ninth in assists at 227. Leah Edmond is eighth all-time in kills at 809. Highest Ranking In the Craig Skinner Era The Wildcats reached No. 6 in the nation for three-straight weeks between Oct Kentucky coach Craig Skinner had never had the program ranked higher. UK s highest ranking ever is No. 5, and the Wildcats haven t been ranked No. 6 since The team has been ranked for 110 weeks, and currently has appeared in the poll for 20-consecutive weeks. Even More Awards Madison Lilley won SEC Setter of the Week for the sixth time this season and SEC Player of the Week after beating Tennessee. The Overland Park, Kansas, native averaged a stellar assists per set in the sweep of Tennessee. She had 48 total assists and helped the Cats tie a three-set school record with 55 kills while UK hit.308 as a team. Leah Edmond won the SEC Offensive Player of the Week award for the third consecutive week. Edmond had 19 kills in the three sets on Sunday and tied the 25-point rally scoring era record that she held for most kills in a three-set match. The Lexington, Kentucky, native is now averaging 4.39 kills per set and hitting.319 this season. Edmond committed just three errors on 43 swings and hit.372. Kaz Brown brought home her first SEC league award this season. She was solid on offense and defense during the sweep of the Lady Vols. Brown had six blocks in the three sets, including two solo stuffs. Brown now owns the 25-point rally scoring career record in solo blocks at 56. The Waterloo, Iowa, native also had double-digit kills with 13, and hit.370 in the match. Setting Records Kentucky won it s 12th straight in the sweep of Tennessee, and set some records in the process. Leah Edmond had 19 kills on a.372 hitting clip in the win, tying her own program record with the most kills in a three-set match in the rally-scoring era with 19. 6 NOTES KENTUCKY VOLLEYBALL Madison Lilley directed the UK offense to the tune of 55 kills on a.308 clip, helping Kentucky match the three-set rally-scoring era record with 55 kills. UK also turned the trick on Oct. 16, 2016 against Ole Miss. Kaz Brown became UK s all-time leading blocker in every category of the 25-point rally-scoring era with six total blocks in the match. She had two solo rejections to run her total to 56 in her career and top Becky Pavan s record of 55. First Win Over No. 1 Kentucky was 0-6 against No. 1 teams in the nation. In Gainesville, that changed. UK took down Florida, 3-1, for its first win over a top-ranked team. Kentucky had four players - Leah Edmond, Darian Mack, Kaz Brown and Avery Skinner - with double-digit kills while Edmond had a match high 18. Madison Lilley had a double-double with 52 assists and 10 digs, helping the Cats record 64 kills and hit In the match at Florida, Kaz Brown recorded her 500th career total block. Brown is the career leader during the 25-point rally scoring era at 507, and also the leader in block assists with 451. Keep the Awards Coming Kentucky volleyball won multiple SEC weekly awards against after their performance against Florida and Texas A&M. Leah Edmond led the Cats on offense to win her second SEC Player and Offensive Player of the Week award as well as ESPNW National Player of the Week. n the win over No. 1 Florida, she posted a match-high 18 kills while hitting.250 on 40 attempts. Edmond was one dig shy of a double-double with nine in the match. The Lexington, Kentucky, native also contributed one block, one assist and one ace in the win. Against Texas A&M, she produced another match high with 13 kills and added five digs and an ace. Madison Lilley garnered her fourth straight SEC Setter award and fifth overall after another stellar week of play. In Kentucky s win over No. 1 Florida, Lilley tallied 52 assists and helped the team hit.309 with 64 kills. The Overland Park, Kansas, native now has six matches in her career with 50 or more helpers, which is the fourth highest in the 25-point rally scoring era. Lilley recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 10 digs against the Gators. Starting the Match Up 12-0 With Ashley Dusek serving, Kentucky started the match against Texas A&M with an impressive 12-0 run. Avery Skinner had four kills during the run, while Emily Franklin had two. Dusek contributed one ace. Kentucky would go on to win the set 25-7 and sweep Texas A&M. Player of the Week Leah Edmond earned SEC Player and Offensive Player of the week for her performance last weekend against Alabama and Auburn. She had 36 kills including 25 in the four set win over Auburn on Sunday. Her 25 terminations were one shy of her career best and tied her best league performance of her career. Third-Straight Setter of the Week Freshman Madison Lilley continued her stellar freshman campaign where she had already won Setter or Co-Setter of the Week three other times this season. The Overland Park, Kansas, native recorded a double-double in both matches against Alabama and Auburn and now has seven in her career. Mack Leads the Way Darian Mack tied her season high and recorded the match high with 10 kills in the three-set sweep of Mississippi State last Sunday. Mack committed just two errors on 19 swings and hit.421. UK recorded 43 terminations in the win, while hitting.341 as a squad. Honoring Sarah Rumely Former Kentucky volleyball player Sarah Rumely was honored on Oct. 27 when she was inducted into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame. Rumely is the only player in program history to be named SEC Freshman of the Year (2006) and SEC Player of the Year (2008). She earned two-time AVCA All-American, four-time All-SEC, and Academic All-American third team honors. Rumely led her team to the NCAA tournament four times, including the Sweet 16 in She finished her career owning UK records in career assists (5,703) and aces (165). Her 5,703 career assists also ranked fifth all-time in SEC history. Rumely capped her career ranking in the top 10 in sets played (third), block assists (ninth), digs and attack percentage (10th). She is the only player to record a triple-double in a match in program history (10 kills, 56 assists, 18 digs vs. Ole Miss (University of Mississippi)). Rumely led her team to a No. 7 national ranking in After UK, she played professionally overseas. Rumely is currently an assistant coach at Louisiana State University. Two on the Bluejay Invite All-Tournament Team After going 2-1 in the Bluejay Invitational with wins over Northern Iowa and No. 18 Southern California, sophomore Leah Edmond and freshman Madison Lilley were named to the Bluejay Invitational All-Tournament team. Edmond had two double-doubles in both wins of the tournament and averaged a team-high 4.60 kills per set and 2.40 digs per set. Lilley also posted two double-doubles over the weekend, and averaged assists per set. 10 MEMORIAL COLISEUM Playing in the friendly confines of Memorial Coliseum is a tremendous home-court advantage for the Kentucky volleyball team, which plays all of its matches in the historic facility.
