4 COLLEGE RESULTS.hUNTINGTON college news MEN S SOCCER The Warriors of Indiana Tech handed the HU men s soccer team its first loss, a 3-2 decision, under the lights Monday night. It was the first road trip of the season for the Foresters as they drop to 21. Tech scored twice in the opening 21 minutes to put Huntington in a tough spot right away but Lawson s crew wasn t about to throw in the towel. The Warriors maintained their 2-0 lead through the first frame but a chance to regroup at the break definitely favored the visitors. Indiana Tech is a quality side that took it to us in the first half, said Lawson. The encouraging sign was that we responded and played a good second half of soccer. Being on the ball is something that we pride ourselves on and we allowed Tech too much of the ball in the first 45 minutes and they punished us. Huntington went to work right away and got their pay-off when Luke Unger smashed in the rebound from Jake Erlandson s header that ricocheted off the post. Unger s second goal of the year came just under five minutes into the period and certainly gave new life to the visitors. Unfortunately, what proved to be the game-winner came on an own goal by HU off a corner kick in the 62nd minute. Despite two goals separating the two teams again, Lawson s crew continued their pressure and with just under five minutes remaining, Ben Arnold dropped a ball to Ty Sproat who rocketed a shot back netting from the top of the 18. However, there were no late-game heroics as the hosts were able to ride out their one-goal advantage for the win. Through three matches, six different Foresters have already found back netting which includes Unger and Matheus Louzada each tallying a pair. Tech has logged four consecutive wins over HU since 2010 which includes a 2-1 decision last season. This is the second straight year we lost to Tech by an own goal and that stings, said Lawson. The bottom line is that we have to be better on both sides of the ball and I have full confidence we will be. The Foresters will have a chance to get back on track Friday when they face Park Point at 2:30 p.m. as part of the Lawrence Tech Blue Devil Classic.

5 Trip to Anderson ends in Raven volleyball sweep Eash, Vanitvelt lead Leafs in blocks but hitters prevail ANDERSON, Ind. Elizabeth Breckbill and Hallie Vanitvelt paced the Goshen College women s volleyball team with eight kills apiece while Vanitvelt and Eash led the team in blocks as the Maple Leafs dropped a three-set decision to Anderson University on Tuesday.Kylie Osborne picked up 16 kills for the Ravens in a 25-22, 25-13, win on their home floor at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. The hosts achieved 13 or more kills in all three sets. Goshen (6-5) racked up 14 kills and a. 407 hitting percentage in the first set, a back-and-forth stanza that saw neither team muster a three-point lead until Anderson went up The Ravens (3-2) hit. 423 in the set, getting 16 kills overall and two from Osborne to close things out. Breckbill picked up a winner to start the second before Anderson reeled off seven of the next eight points for a 7-2 lead. The hosts finished with 14 spikes and a.464 hitting percentage, picking up where they had left off before the threeminute intermission, while the Maple Leafs accumulated seven hitting errors. The third set was far more like the first than the second with both teams hitting.200 or better, but the Ravens again took an early lead behind kills from Osborne and Kylie Rice. Goshen came back to tie the set six times between 6all and 12-all, even taking the lead at 7-6. Two more winners from Osborne would spark a 6-2 run, however, as AU took an lead and never let Goshen back within two points.the Maple Leafs, who were restricted to 15 subs per set under NCAA rules (the NAIA permits unlimited substitution), finished the match with 28 digs to Anderson s 36. Jennifer Ritchie led GC with 8 digs, two more than MacKinnon Tracy, but Anderson s Brooke Troyer led all players with 12. GC hit.234 on 35 kills compared to Anderson s.376 and 43 winners. The Ravens finished with three blocks, all solos, to Goshen s one. Shelbey Younts outdid Naomi Willis by one, 13-12, to lead GC in assists: Courtney Marchello led all players with 22. The match marked the ninth straight year that Goshen and Anderson have met on the volleyball court, but the two head coaches go back far farther: AU s Tami Miller played for GC s Jim Routhier at Concord High School, where both Routhier and Miller are members of the CHS Hall of Fame. The two schools were also opponents in the Hoosier Conference for Women from Late outburst gives GC men's soccer best scoring day since early 2017 Bontreger, Vilela enter scoresheet twice in 4-2 win GOSHEN, Ind. Lucas Bontreger picked up his first collegiate assist in the first half and his first goal in the second Tuesday night as Goshen College topped the University of St. Francis (Illinois) 4-2 in men's soccer action at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.Bontreger picked up his helper on a cross to Uriel Macias, who opened the scoring after 11:39 of the first half with a nearpost finish. USF tied through Reuel Erastus-Obilo five minutes later to end the first-half scoring.on a day where the high temperature reached 89 degrees and the heat index was still 97 at the kickoff just after 7 p.m., the Maple Leafs (2-3) made six changes to their second-half lineup. Goshen's three-goal second half set up the team's highest scoring output of the last 363 days."we did some very positive things on offense," said Goshen head coach Arron Patrick. "We played a couple systems but maintained the same style and we were able to execute both centrally and out wide. We had some good combination play and finished off our chances well. There were other goals out there for sure, but we will never complain about scoring four times.""the two goals that we allowed tonight were extremely disappointing," Patrick continued. "We made horrific decisions on the ball for the first goal and complacency cost us again on the second. We have to remain focused when we have so much possession, and tonight complacency cost us. A little bit of laziness caused us to be out of position, and then a lack of communication compounded it. But it's good to have this problem now so that we don't see the same errors in league play when it really counts."jimmelle Ramkissoon's shot from an Ethan Francois-Ravalier pass set up Spencer Aeschliman for a rebound goal less than four minutes after halftime to put GC up 2-1.ErastusObilo tied the score off a deflection in the 71st minute, but Ollie Smith would put the Leafs back in front after sidestepping the USF keeper to finish a pass from Lucas Vilela with 17:48 to play.bontreger finished the scoring on a through ball up the right side, again from Vilela, with 15:10 on the clock. Center backs Joao Vitor da Rocha and Tevin Gilkes were the only Maple Leafs to go the distance; goalkeeper Tyler Born played 83 minutes after relieving Tomas Fonseca early in the first half, but no other player saw action for more than 70 minutes. Twenty-one GC players appeared at some point."our depth is great this year and we were able to play a ton of guys," Patrick said. "I'm very happy for those guys who stepped in being able to play 7 players in central midfield and not lose a beat is a huge asset. Tristan Smucker had a great night in his first appearance and I thought Lucas Vilela was outstanding."goshen finished with a 7-5 edge in shots on goal; both goalkeepers (USF's Noah Jawdat and GC's Tyler Born) made three saves. The match included five corner kicks, of which Goshen had three.we have much to work on, but I know this team will be ready to roll when conference begins," Patrick said. "The tough schedule and focus on our process will all pay off long-term and we are taking a lot of confidence from what we have produced on the pitch so far this season. We have a lot to accomplish and the next thing is resting up and focusing on a tough team in Lourdes this Saturday!" The Maple Leafs improve to 2-3 this season and make their first road trip, to Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio, at 7 p.m. Saturday.Goshen College is an affordable, nationally-ranked Christian liberal arts college in Northern Indiana known for leadership in intercultural and international education, sustainability and social justice.
