1 IMMERSIVE GALLERY Safety Briefing & Risk Assessment Venue Information ArtVo Immersive Gallery 26 Star Crescent, Level 1, The District, Docklands VIC 3008 Phone: (03) Web: artvo.com.au Insurance See Appendix for copy of Certificate of Currency Getting Here Public Transport Options Free Tram The City Circle free tram stops right outside The District Shopping Centre, Docklands Drive. Take Tram 70 (via Flinders Street) OR Tram 86 (Via Bourke Street) to The District tram stop. Bus Bus Link s route 220 will also drop you at The District s doorstep. (Stop 6 Footscray Road) Buses run every 15 minutes, seven days a week. You can contact Public Transport Victoria on , or visit their website for timetable information. Train Take the train to Southern Cross Station and walk over the Bourke Street Pedestrian Bridge to Harbour Town Esplanade, then along Docklands Drive or the waterfront to The District.
2 Parking Car Parking The District Docklands East & West Car Parks - Secure, multi-level undercover parking with multiple auto-pay options. No pre-booking is required. Park 2 Hours FREE with validation The west side car park on Level 1 is the most convenient place to park for ArtVo. This car park is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Lifts are available within The District, Docklands. Accessible parking is available. 3 Access & Emergency Evacuation Procedures It is recommended that visitors use amenities before entering ArtVo as there are no toilets in the gallery. Pass outs are available if visitors would like to leave and return later. Disabled toilets are available. The venue is wheelchair accessible - ArtVo welcomes guests with special needs or disabilities, both visible and invisible, to enjoy the full immersive experience- the ArtVo Access Key can be downloaded at ArtVo staff are happy to assist in any way they can. Lift & Toilets Lift Toilets Lift All staff are trained in emergency procedures and how to deal with emergency situations. In the case of an emergency staff will advise and direct all visitors on appropriate action. Emergency alert and evacuation tone systems are in place and will provide direction to the teacher in charge of the group and this person is responsible for ensuring compliance with the directions by all students. First aid kits are available and are kept in the same area where bags and coats are stored. Staff are trained in first aid and able to assist in the event of a first aid of medical issue. Contact staff immediately in the event of any first aid or medical issues. All employees of ArtVo have a current Victorian Working with Children check If you notice a hazard or incident report to staff immediately.

5 Risk Assessment for School Excursions Activity Arriving and assembling at the entrance of Artvo Gallery Potential Risks Trips and falls. Disabled access. Control strategies Schools should plan to arrive with plenty of time to start the tour and safety briefing. It is recommended that visitors use amenities before entering ArtVo as there are no toilets in the gallery. Pass outs are available if visitors would like to leave and return later. Disabled toilets are available. Teachers must ensure students do not run at anytime during their visit to ArtVo. Take care when entering through the glass doors at reception and be aware of bollards and displays in the surrounding area. During the safety briefing our staff will highlight emergency exits and evacuation points incase of an emergency. Storing bags, coats and food/drinks Lost property. Students must not bring valuables to the gallery. Bag and coat storage is available. Students must line up in an orderly fashion while the guide checks their cloakroom items in. Walking to and from the bathroom Trips and Falls. Disabled Access. Lost or unaccounted for students. Students get lost returning to the gallery Bathroom facilities can be found on the same level as the gallery, but outside the gallery building. All areas are wheelchair accessible. Teachers are to ensure students do not run at anytime, students always stay with their group, and students always follow the instructions of the staff, teachers and guides. Teachers must accompany students to the bathroom, ensure students behave in an orderly manner, exit the gallery safely and do not use the stairs or elevators. Student are not to wander the building without their group and are not to leave the bathroom without their teacher. Keep your students together and under direct supervision at all times. Walking through the gallery Trips and Falls. Injury from gallery equipment. Low lighting. Students are welcome to interact with and touch the art works. Groups must walk carefully around any anyone using cameras or camera equipment. The gallery is in low light, so students and teachers must be careful and ensure they follow the instructions of where to stand and move from all areas in an orderly manner. Teachers must also ensure students do not trip over others in the gallery environment. Using the gateway exhibit in the Jungle Safari zone Trips and falls from steps. The gateway exhibit in the Jungle Safari zone has three steps. Please take care when using these steps. Using the gondola in the World Tour zone Trips and falls when getting in and out of the Gondala. In this zone, visitors have the opportunity to be photographed in a gondola. Take care when stepping in and out of the gondola.
6 Risk Assessment for School Excursions Activity Using the passageway in the Pharoahs Treasures zone Potential Risks Trips from the slight incline in the passage way. Control strategies To enter Pharaohs Treasures, visitors walk through a passage way. The passage way is fully accessible. The entrance is 91 centimetres (3 foot) wide. The passageway is an enclosed space with a small decline at the entrance. The lighting is slightly dimmed. Upon exit from Pharaohs Treasures, there is a slight incline. Take care when walking through the passageway in this zone and mind your step. Using the step in the Mummy Room zone Trips on the large step at the photo point. The Mummy Room includes a large step up to the photo point and photographic platform. This platform is slanted. Take a moment to control balance. The doorway is 107 centimetres (3.5 foot) wide. Take care in this area and mind your step. The Mummy Room is not wheelchair accessible. Using the Imagine zone Trips on raised edges and platforms. Losing balance. The Snow Globe exhibit has a photo platform with a small raised edge. Take care when posing for photos here. The Panda exhibit requires good balance as visitors are to lay on bamboo visitors to take a moment to control balance. The Bulls Eye exhibit has a small raised platform. Take care when posing for photos here. Exit from the building Lost property. Trips and falls. Report any lost property to staff immediately. Keep your students together and under direct supervision at all times. Teachers must ensure their entire group leave together and immediately report any students who are unaccounted for to staff and guides. Exiting the gallery returns you to the reception area where you can collect your bags. Take care when exiting through the glass doors. Using cameras and smartphones in the gallery Trips and falls. Dropping cameras and smartphones. Students are welcome to interact with and touch the art works.this includes using cameras and smartphones. Groups must walk carefully around any anyone using cameras or camera equipment. Teachers must also ensure students take care when using camera equipment in the gallery environment. Overhead TV screens feature in each exhibit providing tips on how to best pose and interact with the artworks. Visitors should at all times respect the personal space of other guests.
7 Risk Assessment for School Excursions Activity Special medical, allergy or behavioural requirements Potential Risks Medical or physical injury. Allergic reactions. Control strategies Teachers should be aware of any medical or behaviour issues that may affect individual students and their movement throughout the gallery spaces. Should there be any specific requirements as a result of these issues teachers are asked to notify staff. Where students have special medical needs such as severe allergies, teachers or school support staff should carry with them the required medication for the appropriate medical response. This includes any food allergies. You Should Know Please bring your own device (BYOD). Smart devices or camera s are not supplied. For best results use a smart device- the gallery has been designed to work best with these Several portable rechargers are available for loan from the front desk No food or drinks are allowed in the gallery at any time. Water in sealed containers is okay. All other food and drinks should be stored with bags and coats on arrival. Soft soled, comfortable shoes essential. Walking only. On arrival staff will take you through the safety briefing and how to use the gallery. Teachers, volunteers, parents and guardians to supervise throughout. Teachers are responsible for the supervision of their students at all times during the visit. Teachers and students must follow the instructions of staff The gallery is all one level and the zones vary in colour and brightness. Some exhibits have raised platforms or steps, and slight inclines or declines. Theses are mentioned in the risk assessment There is only one entry and exit point There is yellow and black signage to indicate wet floors
