1 Bonbrook Community Newsletter Plantation NEWS AND HIGHLIGHTS from THE BONBROOK PLANTATION HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION SPRING 2018 HIGHLIGHTS IN THIS ISSUE: 3 4 Participate In The Community page 3 Social/Events Committee News page 4 Photos From The Easter Social! page 5 PARKING WHAT S THE BIG DEAL? Someone in your household has, a medical emergency and every second counts, it takes the ambulance a few minutes more to get to your home because they have to navigate (large vehicles) around cars parked in the street. Your home is on fire, the fire is moving quickly and someone is trapped on the street on the second floor, the fire trucks are approaching your street and have to slow down to navigate (large vehicles) around cars parked in the street. It takes them a few extra minutes to get to your home. A few cars are parked on the street and your coming home form a long stressful day at the office. Your reflexes are slower and you re not exactly as sharp as you were early in the day. All you are thinking is about getting home, right? Suddenly a child/someone riding a bicycle, etc. pulls out in front of you from a blind spot behind one of the cars parked in the street and you hit them. Sounds far-fetched, it s not! Our streets were not designed with parking in mind. Our community was designed with two and three car garages and driveways to accommodate up to four vehicles. Please comply with the parking restriction s, it s a small price to pay for our safety. DID YOU KNOW...? We, the Board and Management, would like to send a big Thank You to all those homeowners that have already paid their 2018 assessments or already have a payment plan in place. This is a major help in keeping your community the wonderful place it is to live. For those homeowners that have not been able to make their assessment payments, we know life happens. We are asking you to contact Debra Willis at dwillis@sterlingasi.com, to request a payment plan. By requesting a payment plan, you will avoid having your account turned over to the association s attorney for collections and stay in good standing with your community. If your account is sent to the attorney, the amount owed is almost double the first two months in attorney s fees alone. Please let us help you set up a payment plan immediately. UPCOMING BOARD MEETINGS Upcoming dates and times for our quarterly Board meetings are: June 12:30pm at Rec center, September 10th and December 10th.

The use and discharge of firecrackers and other fireworks is prohibited within Bonbrook Plantation. Please help us keep the community safe by following this rule. Violators will be fined for discharging fireworks in the community. KEEPING OUR COMMUNITY CLEAN & BEAUTIFUL Every minute a sack of fast-food trash gets thrown from a vehicle's window. Did you know that 33 percent of all littered garbage is fast food waste? Styrofoam containers take many years to decompose. It also takes many years for aluminum cans to biodegrade, of which these make up 28 percent of incorrectly disposed trash. Littering certainly doesn't help the environment but most importantly it hurts humans as well as resulting in the deterioration of our planet. Reversing neighborhood litter and pollutants back to green environments is our challenge. Littering is letting trash or garbage lie in an open place or area. Litter is not only an eyesore it also has very bad effects. Plastic shopping bags are an example. They have become a big issue as their light weight makes it easy for them to travel in the wind. This kind of litter gets stuck in trees, fences and storm drains. This plastic bag litter also impacts the health of smaller wild animals. If you see litter in the community, please pick it up and dispose of it properly. It is good practice to recycle the litter you ve collected, if at all possible. Contact Fort Bend County's recycling center ( ) for advice on whether certain materials should be collected separately, where they should be taken on how they should be disposed. To protect, save and improve our environment from litter it first starts making observations and changes at home where we live, in our neighborhood and beyond. Green is possible when we start by cleaning up our own litter. We should be doing this for the good of the earth and its wildlife and humans, as we are the only ones who can make that change. Thank you for helping to keep our neighborhood beautiful.
3 How Can You Participate In Our Wonderful Community? In order for our community association to continue to protect, preserve and enhance our community assets and our property values, it is helpful for each member of our community to acknowledge their role in our community and, at times, be willing to expand their role to take on some added responsibility. For example: We all must obey our governing documents, we agreed to do that when we closed escrow. By obeying community rules and regulations, we contribute to our community and accept the role of a rule abiding member. Each year we conduct an Annual Meeting at which time we elect our Board of Directors. Although we don't have to participate in the election process, choosing to do so contributes to the success of our community. When we do, our role as a rule abiding member expands to include that of a voting member. We also have the opportunity to attend our Board of Directors meetings in order to better understand the business decisions made by the Board. When we choose to attend those meetings, our role as a rule abiding, voting member now expands to include that of a participating member. And when we choose to serve on community committees or the Board of Directors, we accept another role and become a rule abiding, voting, participating and contributing member. So, let's all work at recognizing what roles we can choose to accept in our community and work together at making our community the best place to live! We did a Halloween social where the children were able to paint pumpkins and enjoy cotton candy and popcorn. We had a bounce house and everyone had a great time. For Christmas we had pictures with Santa and his elves. We made homemade hot cocoa and had cookies and snacks. Our next scheduled event is July 7th. Hope to see you there! If you would like to get involved in the Social Committee or have any questions, suggestions, or concerns please contact your Social Committee Chairman: Karla Keim (832) karla@karlakeim.com Watch out for School Buses! Did you know that passing a school bus that is loading or unloading children is illegal? The law states that even if you are on the opposite side of the road, driving in the opposite direction, you may not pass the bus unless the road is divided by a median, the bus has begun moving again, they have removed their little Stop Sign or turned off their flashing red lights, or unless the driver has waived you on. Hefty fines of up to $1,000 for violators! Here are several safety measures drivers can take to help keep children safer: when driving in school zones, be alert and watch out for children, slow down and watch for children gathering near bus stops, look for children who might dart into the street without looking for traffic and know and obey the laws concerning school zones and school buses.

Call: (281) info@preparedpublications.com Spring Gardening Tips: Spring has sprung and now s the time to do a little work in your flower and plant beds. To help, here are some tips: Prune or plant roses. Now is the time to begin applying rose food on a monthly basis. Use an organic fertilizer if possible. Start seeds or set out plants for spring flowers and herbs. Plant now and get established before heat sets in. Good herbs to plant include basil, dill, chives, cilantro, fennel, oregano, mint and parsley. Plant fruit trees, shade trees, and ornamental trees. Be sure to apply mulch around the root zone to keep moist and avoid weeds. Make sure trees are watered regularly during first few years of growth, while tree is getting established. Add mycorrhizae to planting hole to also aid establishment of the tree. Use a root stimulator every few weeks for the first three months after planting. Plant shrubs such as roses and azaleas. Use a root stimulator every two weeks for the first few months after planting. Feed hibiscus, bougainvillea and plumeria with plant food. This will help plants to put out new lush growth and plenty of blooms. Prune trees and shrubs while dormant. Prune spring-flowering shrubs such as azaleas, spireas, and redbuds after they ve bloomed. Feed with plant food, once after they bloom and then again in June. Apply dormant oil to smother insects before they become a problem. Apply to hollies, magnolias, and camellias for scale. Release Lady Bugs to control insects like aphids and whitefly. Plant color annuals such as marigolds, fuchsias, petunias, osteospermum, perilla, bachelor buttons, coleus, forget-menots, dusty millers, annual phlox, geraniums, impatiens, begonias and more! Plant sun perennials such as shasta daisy, rudbeckia, gaillardia, verbena, coreopsis, lantana, perennial salvias, bee balm, porterweed, mist flower, jatropha, and skullcap.
