1 Correspondence to: Mr RF Gurney, 27 Stanford Road, Northway, Tewkesbury, GL20 8QU ORDER FOR FIRST WORLD WAR CENTENARY COMMEMORATION 1. General 9 July 2014 a. The parade will form up in Sun Street, Tewkesbury, and then march to The War Memorial. There will be an Act of Commemoration at The Cross. The parade will then return to Sun Street via High Street with a Salute being taken outside The Town Hall. b. A map of Tewkesbury can be found at Appendix 2 to this order. 2. Command 3. Timings 4. Dress a. The parade will be commanded throughout by S/Lt (SCC) Tristan Cooper RNR Commanding Officer (Tewkesbury Sea Cadets). All units taking part in the parade are requested to assemble in Sun Street, Tewkesbury at 1015 hrs, Sunday 3 August Will contingents please form up on the footpath in the Order of March given at Appendix 3. Other, approximate, timings are given below. 1030hrs - Parade moves onto the road In Line in the Order of March and facing Tesco s car park. 1035hrs - Parade steps off for the march to The War Memorial at The Cross. 1045hrs Parade halts outside the Town Hall where it is joined by the Mayoral Party 1055hrs Parade arrives at The Cross. 1100hrs Act of Commemoration commences. 1130hrs Service ends 1140hrs Parade reforms in Column of Route while Mayoral party proceeds to The Town Hall. 1145hrs Parade steps off for the return march to Sun Street 1150hrs - Approximate timing for salute outside The Town Hall. 1200hrs Parade halts in Sun Street and is dismissed. a. Dress for the parade will be determined by each parading contingent s own rules and regulations. It should be noted that medals are to be worn by all persons entitled to do so. b. All parading organisations are invited to parade their Standards or Banners as applicable. 1 OF 9
2 5. Words of Command A list of necessary Words of Command is given at Appendix 4. Contingent Commanders should make themselves fully conversant with the content of this document. 6. Band The parade will be led throughout by the Tewkesbury Town Band and 785 (Tewkesbury) Squadron, Air Cadets, Corps of Drums 7. Inclement Weather In the event of inclement weather, separate orders will be issued on the day. 8. Car Parking Ample parking is available at the Cascades Swimming Pool car park, off Oldbury Road, Tewkesbury. This car park and others are shown on the map of Tewkesbury at Appendix 1 are controlled by Tewkesbury Borough Council, and all persons using them will have to pay parking charges. 9. Insurance All organisations taking part in the parade and Act of Commemoration will be covered by Tewkesbury Town Council third party liability insurance 10. 5 PARADE FORMATION AT THE WAR MEMORIAL Appendix 3 to First World War Centenary Order Order Band Younger Youth Groups / Organisations Mayoral Party and Clergy Standard Bearers The Cross Adult/Older Youth Organisations Parade Contingents The band will march around the War Memorial and into High street where it will counter-march to face the parade. Marching contingents will follow the band around the War Memorial, but will halt just short of High Street. Those marching contingents comprised of the younger youth organisations will march around the Memorial to halt in from of Adult/Older youth organisations. (This will the enable those younger persons on parade to see more of the proceedings.) The parade will then be turned Into Line to face the War Memorial. Standard bearers are then to detach from their contingents, and March to form a line across the entrance to Barton Street facing the War Memorial. The Town Mayor, Town Councillors and invited guests will form up at the entrance to High Street in front of the band. Following the commemoration, the Mayoral Party will proceed to the Town Hall independently, while the parade reforms behind the band that will have countermarched to face up High Street and towards the Town Hall. Upon seeing the Mayor arrive at the saluting base the Parade Commander will give the order 5 OF to step 9 off and continue the parade to Sun Street.

Once the parade has halted the Band counter marches to face parade and halts independently. 11 Parade Into Line Right Turn Parade Commander Parade turns into line 6 of 9

(Check pacing of units front to rear) Parade Halt Parade Commander Parade halts in Sun Street with the band having cut to bass drumbeat only. Police should carry out Traffic Direction duties. However, contingent commanders to be constantly aware of the ongoing traffic situation and react accordingly. Correct harnesses available for all drums and other musical instruments. Manual Handling Assessments are completed if appropriate. 5 8 of 9
9 Strains and sprains Musicians and drummers go through the correct warm-up exercises before playing. 6 Cuts and lacerations i.e. from exposed snares Visual check of equipment is made by staff member before issue to Cadets. 8 Parading Personnel Fatigue All contingent commanders to be aware of the possibility of marchers suffering from fatigue and to plan safety actions accordingly. 9 Weather Conditions Hypothermia, chills, wet clothing Heat Exhaustion, Heat Stress, Sun Stroke In the event of extreme weather the Parade Commander is to make a Dynamic Risk Assessment regarding the welfare of persons on parade.
