1 UPPER PENINSULA NET NEWS SERVING THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES HAM OF THE YEAR KC8ZMN CHRIS HANSEN UNIONVILLE MI HAM OF THE MONTH K9RSK RON FOXWORTHY GREEN BAY WI JUNE 2016 FROM THE EDITOR BILL, N8NJA Here we are in the month of June, the month of new beginnings, for people who are graduating or having a wedding. Also at the end of this month the year will be half over. Time flies when are having fun! June is a month of change for Ham Radio too. The propagation changes to summer conditions on the HF bands, but also can bring some good six meter openings. So if you are on HF fire up the amp, and if you are a six meter fan, listen, listen, listen to catch those openings! Also June seems to be the big month for Hamfest, many to choose from this month. Hope to see you at a few. Also time to get moving on that tower or antenna project. Please keep in mind to be safe when doing that work. Don t need anybody getting hurt trying to improve their ability to hear or be heard. I am working on an 80 foot telescoping aluminum tower, have to rework the pulley arrangement that raises the sections. I hope to put the 6 and 2 meter beams on this tower. Doing this newsletter is mostly a fun project. But at other times I do not like it at all, this is one of those times. I am very saddened to report the passing of our nets very good friend and member Annette, KC8QII. She will be missed by us and also her whole community of Harbor Springs and Petoskey. She did some much for so many people there will be many, many people who will miss her every day. I just loved seeing her and Cliff at Cadillac and Escanaba Hamfest, Annette could really brighten your day. I never dared travel north without getting on the repeater to ask her permission to travel thru her area. I would make the call and always get the response What are you doing on MY radio? I sure will miss that. UPPER PENINSULA NET WEBSITE www. michupnet.com NET STATS APRIL 2015 CHECKINS 975 TRAFFIC 50 APRIL 2016 CHECKINS 1208 TRAFFIC 50 HIGH TRAFFIC W8WR 4 N8NJA 3 K8BLL 3
