5 On an upbeat note, I thought the players showed great desire and tremendous fighting spirit in their performance There s no hiding the fact that I was disappointed at the way we started the game against title challenging Petershill, in particular the defending (or lack of it) at their goal. However to be fair to our players, the reaction from that bad start was very pleasing. Our guys rolled up their sleeves after that setback and not only got a goal back, but could have snatched a winner in the later stages of the game. Considering the Springburn clubs recent form and league position, I have to be satisfied with the point. It was also important to produce a good showing after the disappointment of the previous week when we went out the West of Scotland Cup to Arthurlie. We know we face a tough task if we are to close the gap on Petershill and Auchinleck Talbot in the league challenge but we won t concede defeat until it is mathematically impossible. We will continue to work hard at improving the team and I have stated clearly to our players that if we are serious about progressing again as a team we really need to stop conceding so many goals like the ones we have lost in the past couple of games. On an upbeat note, I thought the players showed great desire and tremendous fighting spirit in their performance and as manager I have to take that as a real positive. We will of course face Petershill once more this season as they have been drawn to visit us as we attempt to retain our hold of the Central Cup. Today we welcome Scottish Cup holders Shotts to Holm Park on league business. They have not gathered as many points as they would have hoped for this season on their return to the top flight but I have no doubts that on their day they are a side capable of causing any team problems and we have to be aware of that. We will have to turn in a good performance if we are to gain our first victory of. It would also be good to give our supporters a welcome lift as we approach the second part of the season. Scott Walker will be available again for selection but Joe Andrew could miss out with an ankle injury which he picked up against Arthurlie. Please give the lads as much vocal backing as possible in our attempt to put another three points on the board. Onwards & upwards. Billy McGhie. 7 Clydebank FC Club News Running a semi professional team can be an expensive business especially one in the top league of the Juniors. Some teams have input from monied investors, a social club or are perhaps resourced from the sale of assets. Clydebank FC don't have access to any of these income sources... but we do have the backing of a loyal support the th man. The Bankies have recently launched a scheme to allow fans to commit a regular sum towards maintaining the club's budget and to help to build on our successful st season in the Super Premier where we punched above our weight. The scheme is called the Club and that's what we're looking for people to commit to a minimum of per season. That's. a month or around. a week. If you feel you can sign up to this or have friends or family that wish to support the club ( or perhaps in memory of a loved one ) then here's how to do it. Set up a standing order at the bank ( preferred method ) Pay cash or a cheque made payable to CLYDEBANK FC send to McLaren Crescent, Glasgow G LD or see Club Director Bill Abraham at a game If you are se ng up a standing order or sending a cheque then please let us know that you're doing so by mailing billbankie@yahoo.co.uk. This is also the address if you want more detail. In return for your input you will receive an exclusive enamel badge and be put into a draw for a matchworn jersey at the end of the season. You will also be listed on this page in the matchday programme unless you'd prefer not to be. The money will be put to good use and will help us to compete at the highest level. It seemed that most of the first half was written off by many as a poor performance and maybe that s a reflection on the fact that we failed to score. I couldn t help but raise an eyebrow at the assessment of last week s game by some of our supporters. Without claiming anyone is right or wrong, most of it just didn t chime with how I saw it at all. After a ropey first minutes in which we were deservedly behind, I thought we gave a good account for the rest of the half and were the better team. Sure, we hardly troubled their keeper but we played enough decent football to have Petershill on the back foot. The reaction of their players and management at half-time testified to that. We maintained our progress after the break and were worth our equaliser. Then for about minutes Peasey dominated although rarely troubled Robert. The closing stages were fairly even, with both sides pushing for a winner. It seemed that most of the first half was written off by many as a poor performance and maybe that s a reflection on the fact that we failed to score. Goals change perspectives hugely in football. Our West of Scotland Cup exit means that we have had a poor return from cup competitions this season. We may salvage some trophy success in the Central League Cup which we currently hold. But with only home league matches, this season is shaping up to be one of our worst in terms of gate income. It s at time like these, we really appreciate the support you give our various fundraising initiatives. So thanks for backing everything from the Christmas raffle to the Sporting Dinner, especially in the current economic climate. While on the subject of gate income, I believe that that our Premier Division has too few matches and should be enlarged, with two teams added to make a -team league. I know teams that do well in cups can often find themselves mired in fixture congestion at the end of the season, but home league games just isn t enough. No team has ever had fixture congestion like today s opponents Shotts BA had last season. Yet they manage to achieve promotion and win the Scottish Junior Cup, an incredible achievement. We welcome their players, committee and fans to Holm Park today. Finally, enjoy the match and give the players your best support. 12 Todays Visitors - Shotts Bon Accord In stark contrast to last weekend s trip to top of the table Petershill, Clydebank await the visit of bottom side Shotts Bon Accord this afternoon. After seeing their favourites coming away from Springburn with a point Bankies fans will be expectant that their side can do better this afternoon. Earlier this season the sides shared the spoils following a - Hannah Park draw. The Scottish Cup holders began their season in group of the sectional league cup with Carluke Rovers, Forth Wanderers, Newmains United and Wishaw making up the opposition. They began their assault on this trophy with a trip to Carluke but were brought crashing to earth after a - humbling against their Central District League opponents. They put that early disappointment behind them and won their next three games against the minnows of their section to win the group and move on to the quarter final for the sixth season in succession. Larkhall Thistle proved no obstacle as they won - to progress to the semi -final stage for the fifth year in a row. However a trip to Newlandsfield to face Pollok ended in defeat and their first failure to reach the sectional league cup final since the - season. Following a superb season last term the Bon Accord were looking forward to their first tilt at the top flight since dropping out of the Premier Division at the end of the - season. That year Shotts won seven and drew two of their twenty two league matches. This time around they are still looking for their first win after eight games played thus far. In their first league outing this term they travelled to meet champions Irvine Meadow but returned pointless after losing by the odd goal in three. They didn t play another league game for an incredible four weeks but took a point from Clydebank s visit to Hannah Park. A trip to Cumnock again resulted in them taking no points but they did take two from their next two fixtures after draws against Glenafton and Petershill, both games at home. Another two away games ended without a point being won when they lost at Kirkintilloch Rob Roy and Pollok before the enforced winter layoff ended as far as their league games were concerned. They kicked off with another home draw when they shared six goals with Cumnock last weekend. Eight league fixtures have seen them lose all four away matches and draw all four home fixtures, not the type of form needed to survive at this level. However Clydebank fans will be hoping these trends of away defeats and home draws that the Bon Accord are displaying keep up, for one more week at any rate. The Hannah Park side are still involved in the two main cup competitions and have become cup specialists in recent years. Last term they reached the final of the sectional league cup, league cup and Scottish cup as well as getting to the quarter final of the West of Scotland cup. This term in the West of Scotland cup they are through to the third round after dispatching Maybole and Kilbirnie Ladeside in the earlier rounds, winning through both times on penalties. Defending the Scottish they are now in round four and face Benburb at home next weekend after seeing off Greenock and Haddington Athletic in the previous rounds. Unlike their league form all four of these cup wins have come on the road. The Bon Accord s Holm Park record against Clydebank is not something that will fill their supporters with any great confidence as they have lost on both occasions they have been here to meet Bankies. The sides have met eight times before this afternoon s fixture. Currently the series is all square at three wins apiece and the other two ending all square. The first clash of the sides came away back in April in the Central League cup when Clydebank travelled to meet a Shotts side who were at that time playing two divisions higher. The Bankies earned a lot of credit from a battling performance but it was Shotts who won through by the only goal of the game. The next four matches were all league fixtures with Clydebank losing - and drawing - in the Hannah Park games but winning - and - at Holm Park. Two more Central League cup ties followed with the Bon Accord winning the first - at Hannah Park in the - season but Clydebank gaining revenge in last season s Newlandsfield Park final when they won - to lift the trophy. Earlier this term Clydebank finally scored a goal at Hannah Park. Chris Wilson notched a sixteenth minute penalty goal but an Andy Scott penalty just after the half hour completed the scoring and the game ended - for a share of the points. Over the eight previous games Clydebank edge the goals count at eleven goals scored to Shotts nine. Of the current Clydebank squad Mark Hailstones, Gordon Moffat, Martin McInnes and Chris Wilson have found the net against today s opponents. Midfielder Ryan Kelly faces his old mates and what better time could he choose to score his first Clydebank goal than against his former club? Player Of The Week Ross McPherson : If selected today Archie will make his th appearance for the Bankies, he has scored goals in this time giving him a in strike rate and he is already top scorer so far this season, with half the season to go he is only one goal away from the whole of last seasons total. - Career SLC WSP WSC SJC CLC ETC Totals Career Ap A S G A S G A S G A S G A S G A S G A S G A S ps Gls Mark Hailstones Martin McInnes Paul Allum Ross Campbell Gordon Moffat Ross McPherson Tommy Martin Robert Hamilton Andy Paterson Chris Wilson Vinny Berry Ian Gold Michael MacAdam Paul Bell Joe Andrew Ally Graham Kieran Burns Ryan Kelly Dale Clark Scott Walker Michael Morris Trialist AR Allan MacPherson Craig McPherson CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON / CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON /

Back then it was called the fortress by the fans as Clydebank made their tentative first steps up the ladder of the junior game. In five seasons the club played a total of eighty nine matches at the famous old ground. During that spell Bankies won fifty four of the games, drew twelve and lost twenty three amassing one hundred and ninety four goals at the expense of one hundred and eighteen. After leaving the Hibby Bankies moved to share with Yoker Athletic and have since called Holm Park their home. During the five seasons the club have been here they have played a total of eighty five matches winning forty nine times, drawing fourteen and losing twenty two. Over that period the club have scored a total of one hundred and fifty five goals whilst conceding ninety five. Playing at a much higher level over the last five seasons than the first five it could be argued that the record at Holm Park surpasses that of the Hibby. However, at the Hibby the fans enjoyed successes over highly fancied sides such as Lochee United, Bonnyrigg Rose and Irvine Meadow in cup competitions which all go into the pot that this type of debate stirs. It should also be noted that these stats exclude the three times Clydebank used Holm Park as an alternative home venue when Glenhead was unavailable, three games Bankies ended up losing. In all Bankies played seventeen home games away from the Hibby for one reason or another and won ten, drew one and lost six of these matches scoring thirty six and conceding twenty six in the process. Elsewhere this afternoon Auchinleck Talbot, who went back to the top of the table last week, travel to face Frank Lynch s ever improving Beith side who sit eighth. Second placed Petershill await the visit of ninth top Arthurlie in a game the Glasgow side will be expecting to win. Third top Rob Roy go to play Ashfield, who lie sixth, in a game that will attract the interest of Bankies fans as a defeat for the Kirkintilloch side could see Clydebank gain a place in the table. A resurgent Pollok, who now occupy fifth pace, have what looks like a good shout at claiming all three points when they go to New Cumnock to face a Glenafton Athletic side who now sit tenth. Can Clydebank keep their % Holm Park winning run going against the Scottish Cup holders? Ninety minutes of football will tell. Has to be our first win in the league last season against Pollok away, - down at half time and came back to win -. FAVOURITE GROUND PLAYED AT? I Played at Hampden which was a great experience but in junior football apart from Holm park it has to be Irvine Meadows ground. The park and the whole set up down there is second to none. WHAT'S YOUR AMBITION IN FOOTBALL? To win the league and the Scottish Cup with Clydebank. TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT WE WON'T KNOW? I'm quite superstitious, I've got a weird routine that i need to stick to on match days. TEAM SUPPORTED AS A BOY? Rangers and Clydebank. Always had both strips. FIRST FOOTBALL MEMORY? Went to see Rangers v St Johnstone at Ibrox in and I'm sure Rangers won -. FAVOURITE PLAYER PAST/PRESENT? Paul Gascoigne/Daz MacKinnon. WHAT IS YOUR PAST TIMES OUTSIDE OF FOOTBALL? Swimming with the family, the gym to keep up some fitness, golf when the weather is decent and a lot of fifa on the computer. Thanks again Andy, Top banana!
