2 TECHNICAL TRAINING // What is it? When you hear the term Technical Training what comes to mind? Constant environment variables are controlled. Basic/fundamental training. Young players. Individual focus. Coaching players with the ball. Environment is controlled not much free movement. Mostly unopposed. Not game like.
3 ADVANCED TECHNICAL TRAINING // What is it? So what is Advanced technical training? Constant progressed quickly to variable and random environments. Introduction of coaching methods to adjust the challenge level. Deep practice and emphasis on detail. Applied to a game-like environment. Opponents. High demands on the players continuously performance under pressure. Lots of teaching moments player performance is corrected. Observable/measurable improvement in performance and understanding.

6 SHORT AND LONG PASSING PATTERNS // Methods Methods 4 key aspects to consider: The passer as the pass is made. Movement of the receiver prior to the ball arriving. Movement of the passer immediately following a pass. The receiver as the ball arrives. Distances between players are designed to imprint spacing. Pattern play Functional training for midfield players particularly #6 and #8. Different passing types short and medium distance.

8 SHORT AND LONG PASSING PATTERNS // Methods Methods Work with the passer: Direction of the pass suggests to receiver time/space. Strength of pass and type of pass. Can a shaped pass lead a player forward? Move to support away from the direction of the pass. Work with the receiver: Angle of support 45 degrees avoid square/flat support. Can the receiver move between the lines of the defense. Receive with open body to maximize passing range. Can we play forward with 1-2 touch rhythm?

10 SHORT AND LONG PASSING PATTERNS // Methods Methods Teaching questions with your players: What can you do prior to receiving a pass to create more time when the ball arrives. What factors/variables determine the best angle for support for the passer. What factors influence the type of pass i.e. driven, chipped, bent etc and the strength of pass? If a player makes a poor pass of miss-controls the ball what can you change in your technique to avoid such an error the next time?

Modify defensive rules to create success to begin 0 defenders or Zombie defenders. Establish a build out zone. Set touch restrictions/minimums. Require a double pass/wall pass or overlap. Increase/decrease the size of the area.

Assess the organizational structure of the defense forward or backwards pass. How can the passer effect the attacking tempo? Does a pass penetrate the lines of defense and remove defenders from immediate involvement? Work with the receiver: No pressure receive the ball with forward momentum. Starting positions are crucial wide and cutting inside v narrow moving outside. Use hand signals and verbal commands to show teammates where to pass.
