1 Corpus Christi Hooks (16-15, 50-51) at San Antonio Missions (15-16, 51-50) Tuesday, July 22, 2014 Wolff Municipal Stadium San Antonio, TX 7:05 p.m. ON THE RECORD: Home Road Series 3-1 Sweeps L 3 Streak 2-3 Last Last 10 SA STRIKES FIRST: Corpus Christi could not wash away an early seven-run deficit Monday night as the Missions claimed an 8-3 victory over the Hooks at Wolff Stadium. A two-out rally stymied Jordan Jankowski in the second. Back-to-back doubles by Cody Overbeck and Diego Goris, batting eighth and ninth in the lineup, keyed the four-run frame. The Missions tacked on a run in the third and three consecutive singles kick-started the San Antonio fourth. McElroy hit a sac fly to left field, staking the Missions to a 6-0 advantage. Yeison Asencio hit into a force play at second, plating another run from third. Meanwhile, Padres right-hander Jesse Hahn, making a tune-up start for the second half, fashioned two scoreless frames. Joe Ross, making his Double-A debut, kept Corpus Christi off the board over his first three innings. In the sixth, Tony Kemp seared a one-out single to left and Ruben Sosa followed with a double into the left-field corner. Delino DeShields, Jr., hit a soft grounder to third, allowing Kemp to score. Andrew Aplin cracked a line drive into center that was lost in the lights by Liriano. Aplin's 45th RBI cut the Missions' lead to five. Travis Ballew allowed a run in the sixth but bounced back by retiring the last six men he faced. Telvin Nash belted his 15th home run, a lead-off shot to left in the seventh. The Hooks stranded seven and went 1-for-8 with men in scoring position. He had two hits and drove in a run with a double in a win over North Carolina in the World Series. The Carmel, Ind., native hit.329 with eight home runs and 21 RBIs for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League that summer. ROAD WEARY Last night s setback dropped Corpus Christi s July record to The month has marked a resurgence for the Hooks, who slogged though June by dropping 18 of 27 games. Corpus Christi has been lights out at Whataburger Field this month, going 8-2. In those 10 contests, Corpus Christi hit.316 with 12 doubles, 3 triples and 9 homers, while averaging 5.9 runs per game. Although the Hooks have already equaled their road-win output from June (4-12), the club is batting.238 with 15 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs in the last 9 affairs away from Whataburger Field, averaging 4.3 runs per bout. Corpus Christi has struggled though of late, dropping the last 4 games here at The Wolff. The Missions have claimed 7 of the last 9 contests overall. #NASHMASH Telvin Nash belted his 15th home run last night, putting him 2 behind Preston Tucker for the Texas League lead.
