1 Communications Department Victory Field 501 W. Maryland Street Indianapolis, IN Indianapolis Indians 6-1, 1st IL West RHP Brandon Cumpton (1-0, 0.00 ERA) HISTORY IN THE MAKING The Indians enter the 2014 campaign in pursuit of the first three-peat IL West Division titles in franchise history... The Tribe has only once won three consecutive division titles in any league; 1961 (A.A), 1962 (A.A) and 1963 (IL South). BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS Indy s division titles marked its first ever back-toback IL West crowns and just the fourth back-to-back division titles in team history ( , , ). LAST TIME OUT The Tribe bounced back from its first loss of the season by pounding out 11 hits in support of its strong start from Casey Sadler en route to an 8-6 win at Toledo... The 11-hit effort marked the fourth straight multi-hit game for Indianapolis, and also included a Chris Dickerson solo homer to give the offense home runs in three of the last four games. ROAD WARRIORS Indianapolis went 6-1 on its season-opening road trip, claiming a four-game sweep in Columbus and a 2-1 series win in Toledo... The six wins during a road swing was matched just once in 2013, when Indy went 6-3 over a nine-game trip from April 12-20; 6-3. MISERY LOVES COMPANY The Tribe s previous 5-0 unbeaten streak was outlasted by only Triple-A Buffalo (4-0) and Hi-A Salem (5-0)... Following yesterday s action, both Buffalo and Salem suffered their first losses of the campaign, thus ranking the Tribe s 5-0 start as tied with Salem for the longest unbeaten streak (in terms of most wins) in all of the minors. SERIES SHOWDOWN Indianapolis and Toledo meet tonight for the fourth of 21 total tilts between the clubs this season... The Tribe has taken 25 of the last 33 games from Toledo (.758) dating back to July 21, 2012 (G2)... With last night s bounce-back win, the Tribe has now dropped only two sets of back-to-back games against Toledo in that aforementioned span, while never suffering three straight defeats... Andrew Lambo is 5-for-9 (.556) with two doubles, a triple, three RBI and three walks (.667 OBP) in three games vs. the Hens... WE RUN THIS TOWN Lambo (6) and Brent Morel (5) combined to score 11 of Indy s 20 total runs in the team s three games at Toledo... Both scored at least one run in each of the three contests, including combining for five of eight Tribe scores in Wednesday s rubber game. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE (FIFTH) THIRD KIND Courtesy of Toledo s three-run ninth last night, the Indians and Hens have now played in 15 straight games at Fifth Third Field in which the final outcome has been decided by two runs or fewer, dating back to Aug. 29, Today s Tribe Starter RHP Brandon Cumpton Current streak: W1 Brandon Cumpton makes tonight s start after hurling 6.0 shutout frames against the Clippers on April 5 at Huntington Park... The right-hander surrendered just six base hits and one walk with one strikeout in the win, and induced two key double-play groundouts to cap off his outing... He has now held opponents to two ER or fewer in 16 of his 22 career Triple-A games. Thursday, April 10, :05 p.m. EDT Victory Field Indianapolis, Ind Game #8 Home Game #1 ORG REPORT Pittsburgh scored four runs over the final three innings before coming up just short in a 7-5 loss to the Cubs... Bucs batters launched homers for five of their six total hits in the game, including two blasts from both Pedro Alvarez and Russell Martin. MINOR DETAILS Altoona was downed by Akron 5-4, despite Elias Diaz going 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to each of his four games... The backstop is 7-for-12 (.583) with 2 RBI for the Curve... Jeff Locke made his first rehab appearance in Bradenton s 3-1 loss to Palm Beach... The lefty-on-the-mend recorded 10 strikeouts with just one walk while limiting Palm Beach to two runs in 6.0 IP... Josh Bell continued his torrid start to 2014 with his fourth multi-hit effort in five games... Bell is 9-for-21 (.429) with an.810 slugging clip... No. 1 draft pick Reese McGuire went 3-for-4 with a double in West Virginia s 5-3 loss to Asheville. GIVE ME FIVE (TOOLS) Top prospect Gregory Polanco extended both his hitting and on-base streak last night, going 1-for-5 with a run scored... His six-game hitting streak is tied for the longest in the IL this season, over which he is 10-for-24 (.417) since April 5... His 10 total hits on the campaign are also tied for first among IL batters... In addition, he is tied for the league lead after reaching safely in all seven games in 2014 (.393 OBP). LESS IS NOT MORE(L) Brent Morel is the lone Tribe batter to match Polanco s hitting streak thus far in 2014, and after collecting two base knocks in Wednesday s game, Morel has now gone 9-for-22 (.409) with seven runs, three doubles, a homer and five RBI over his team high-tying hitting streak... Morel s seven runs are also tied for third in the IL. THE GREAT LAMBINO After beginning the season 0-for-8 through his first three games, reigning Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Player of the Year Andrew Lambo has now hit safely in each of his last three contests and reached safely in three of the last four... He has also knocked an extra-base hit, scored at least one run and coaxed a walk in all three games during his hitting streak... Overall, Lambo is 5-for-9 during his three-game hitting streak since April 8, and ranks first in the IL in runs (6), tied for first in extra-base hits (3) and tied for third in both OBP (.667) and slugging (1.000) over that stretch. THE WAY THE OTHER THIRD LIVES The bottom third of the Tribe s lineup knocked two hits and drove in two runs in Wednesday s win... Indy s No. 7, 8 and 9 batters concluded the three-game series at a combined 10- for-27 (.370) with six RBI. RISPY BUSINESS Indy has totaled 56 at-bats with RISP in the last four games.
