19 Minor League Clips Two priorities for Wings' Rosario: fun and winning Kevin Oklobzija Democrat & Chronicle - 6/14/ There's one quality in Eddie Rosario that's very evident every time he runs onto the ball diamond. It's not necessarily the pop in his bat, although he can drive a pitch pretty far. It's also not the raw speed and the ground he covers in the outfield, although those are five-star assets. The thing that's so very obvious every night: he loves to have fun. Take Tuesday night, for instance, during the on-field New York State Lottery toss heading to the top of the third inning. The contestant and target board are set up on the grass in front of the Rochester Red Wings dugout, and the promotion takes place as players are making their way back onto the field. Most players veer around. Not Eddie. He always runs right between the thrower and the target and on Tuesday he finally made the interception. Snared the tennis ball with great sleight-of-hand, flipped it back and continued right out to center field. "But when you intercept the lottery throw, you have to flip it behind your back in the net so the guy gets the prize," Wings manager Mike Quade said. Maybe 30 seconds later Rosario was all business, racing straight back to haul in Collin Cowgill's 390-foot drive with an acrobatic basket catch, a la Willie Mays. "Maybe Roberto Clemente," Rosario said with a smile. Of course he smiled. "He's always having fun," outfielder/designated hitter Adam Brett Walker said, "and he plays hard." Rosario's greatest sleight-of-hand came a little later, however. That's when he turned a sure end-of-inning out into the winning run and enabled the Red Wings to defeat the Columbus Clippers 1-0 at Frontier Field. With two outs and Rosario on second, Walker lined a single to right. Joey Butler's throw home was nearly perfect but Rosario managed to avoid the tag to the outside and then slapped his left hand onto the plate as he slid by. As Rosario rounded third and sprinted home, he knew it was going to be close. Or worse, since the ball beat him. "I just tried to make a good slide," he said. It was better than good. "It was a great play Eddie, a great slide," Walker said. The contributions are expected from the seventh-year outfielder. He made his major-league debut on May 6, 20, and hadn't been back to the Wings until May. While he was hitting just.200 for the Minnesota Twins in 32 games, which is why he was optioned to Triple-A. But he has regained his confidence. He's hitting.3 with 10 doubles and four home runs in 22 games and the Wings are in first place with a record, best in the International League. "Eveything is fun when you win," Rosario said. The run he scored brought to an end a stellar duel of pitchers. Rochester's Tommy Milone allowed three hits in seven innings, striking out eight, while Mike Clevinger allowed three hits and fanned five in his seven innings for the Clippers. Marcus Walden took over for Milone and struck out the side in the eighth, then J.T. Chargois retired the Clippers in the ninth, setting the stage for the walk-off rally.

20 Game night The matchup: Red Wings vs. Columbus Clippers (Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians). Time/place: 7:05 p.m. Wednesday/Frontier Field. Gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets: $9, $11.50, $13. Promotion: It's $1 Wednesday, courtesy of the Democrat and Chronicle. Hot dogs, peanuts, Cracker Jack and chips are $1. Pitching matchup: Wings left-hander Andrew Albers (4-1, 3.65) opposes Clippers righty Will Roberts (5-3, 3.58). Radio: WHTK-AM (1280). Smokies 4, Lookouts 1 Times Free Press - 6// Tuesday's recap: Chesny Young had three hits and drove in two runs as Tennessee won the series finale and handed touted Chattanooga starting pitcher Kohl Stewart his first loss. Zack Granite opened the game with a triple to right field and scored on an Engelb Vielma sacrifice to center to give the Lookouts a 1-0 lead, which they maintained until a Young single to left in the fifth scored Carlos Penalver and Daniel Lockhart to put the Smokies ahead to stay. Chattanooga dropped to entering its final five-game series of the first half. Next up: Game one of a five-game series in Montgomery is today at 2:05 EDT. Pitchers: D.J. Baxendale (6-6, 3.23) is scheduled to start for the Lookouts, with Chris Kirsch (3-2, 3.54) scheduled for the Biscuits. Miracle drop fourth-straight game News-Press - 6// The Lakeland Flying Tigers put the long ball to good use by scoring four times in the first inning as they posted an 8-3 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle on Tuesday night. The Miracle have now dropped the first three games of this series at Henley Field in Lakeland, and four straight overall after opening this long road trip with three wins at Brevard County. After a wild pitch helped the Miracle take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Flying Tigers broke the game open in a big way in the bottom of the inning off of Fort Myers starter Tyler Jay. With two outs and runner on second, Kade Scivicque, Mike Gerber, and Joey Pankake hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to put Lakeland in control by a 4-1 score. The Miracle were able to close the gap to 4-2 in the third. Tanner Witt doubled with one out, and then came in to score one out later on Nick Gordon s triple. The host Flying Tigers quickly answered by scoring twice in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles by Pankake and Wade Hinkle to push their advantage to 6-2. Fort Myers closed to within 6-3 on an RBI single off the bat of Brian Olson in the top of the fifth inning, but Lakeland added two more runs without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of four walks, a hit batter, and a wild pitch, to close out the game s scoring at
