1 Week in Review for the Panthers: Georgia State (11-7, 1-5 CAA) has won two of its last four games, and had its Wednesday game against Jacksonville State canceled due to rain. In their past five games, the Panthers are hitting.323 as a team and averaging 6.2 runs and 12 hits per game. Nick Hogan is hitting.474 during the past five games, leading the team with nine hits during that stretch. The junior has also scored four runs, driven in two and swiped a pair of bases. Marc Mimeault is second on the team with a.429 average in the past week, collecting nine hits while doubling twice and driving in five runs. Bradley Logan leads the team in this span with six RBIs and a.545 slugging percentage from two doubles and a home run. The third baseman is also batting.318 in the past five games. In State s game Tuesday against Jacksonville State, the Panthers used some textbook baseball to earn a hard-fought win. The Panthers executed three sacrifice bunts to get runners in scoring position and stole three bases with three runs resulting from either a stolen base or sacrifice hit. Mike McCree drove in two runs with groundouts and ultimately scored the winning run in the seventh after leading off the frame with a single. The Panthers got some solid pitching Tuesday night, as three pitchers combined to scatter six hits and surrender three runs. Starter Adam Knight struck out eight and gave up two runs on a pair of hits in 4.2 innings of work. John Locklear threw 2.1 innings, his second-longest outing of the season, and gave up one run on three hits to earn the win. David Ferrer had a perfect eighth inning and gave got into a bases loaded jam in the ninth, but got a foul out to earn his third save of the season in his longest outing of the year. Series Notes: State holds an 8-7 lead in the all-time series, which began in 1980 when both schools were members of the Sun Belt Conference. The Rams hold a 6-1 advantage since the Panthers joined the CAA, and a 4-1 lead in games in Richmond. Scouting VCU: The Rams (5-12, 0-2 CAA) enters the weekend having won three of its last four games, including a 2-1 series win over Manhattan. VCU has played four games against nationallyranked opponents, dropping a three-game series at Texas to open the season and falling to North Carolina on the road. VCU ranks 11th in the Colonial Athletic Association with a team batting average of.264. The Rams average 4.53 runs and 8.71 hits per game. Jared Bolden leads the Ram offense with a.339 average, seven doubles, 14 runs scored, six stolen bases, 12 walks and 12 RBIs. R.J. Schenk is second on the team with a.325 average and leads the club with a.471 on-base percentage. The Rams are sending LHP Ian Thomas (0-1, 2.55 ERA, 17.2 IP) and RHP Cody Eppley (2-1, 5.55 ERA, 24.1 IP) to the mound on Friday and Saturday with Sunday s starter to be announced. Eppley leads the team in innings pitched and strikeouts (20). Aaron Morgan has been a staple out of the bullpen, throwing 15.1 innings with a 2.35 ERA, 19 strikeouts and opponents hitting.213 off the lefty. Versus the CAA: While the Panthers enter the weekend with a 1-5 record against conference opponents, State has found some bright spots in league play. Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas is hitting.370 against CAA pitching with a team-high 10 hits. State is hitting.291 as a team against league pitching with three other players hitting above.300 (Derek Simmons and Nick Hogan at.333, Marc Mimeault at.318). Bradley Logan has provided the power against the CAA with a.542 slugging percentage from three doubles and a homer. He also tops the team with five RBIs against CAA teams. State s starting pitching has been up and down against league opponents, but the bullpen has kept the Panthers competitive. John Locklear has made three appearances, throwing 6.0 innings and giving up one earned run. Adam Knight has limited CAA batters to a.111 average in 2.1 innings. Closer David Ferrer has a save in 2.1 innings of work with opponents hitting.111 against him. 5 Head Coach Greg Frady Entering his second season in charge of the Panthers, Greg Frady was named Georgia State s eighth head baseball coach in June Frady s first year at the helm featured several achievements, highlighted by the Panthers second straight Colonial Athletic Association Tournament appearance. State also reeled off six consecutive wins on two separate occasions. Three players earned postseason honors as Luke Gordon became the first Panther named to the All- CAA First-Team while Charlie Pelt and Eric Suttle were selected to the All-CAA Second-Team. Pitchers Adam Bowling and Will Palmer earned weekly honors from the CAA. Before taking the reins at Georgia State, Frady spent two seasons working as the Panthers associate head coach. He helped State reach the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in 2005, the school s last season in the conference, and helped the Panthers reach the 2006 CAA Tournament, their first year in the league. Prior to guiding the German National Team, Frady served as associate head coach at the University of Central Florida from The Golden Knights were ranked in the top 25 in each of the seven seasons Frady was involved with the program. UCF collected six conference championships in that span (three regular-season and three tournament titles). The Golden Knights also made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament, and played in two regional finals during Frady s time in Orlando. He was part of four 40-win teams (1997, 1998, 2000, 2002) and a 50-win team in Before moving to UCF, Frady spent six seasons as the head coach at North Florida Community College in Madison, Fla., where his teams broke the school record for wins in a season four times in six years. He started his coaching career at Columbus State University in 1988 where he served as an assistant for three seasons. Frady took charge as interim head coach in the summer of 1990 and led the Cougars to the NCAA Division II World Series and a overall record. Frady has recruited and coached 20 All-Americans, and 77 of his former players have been drafted or signed professional contracts. Three players have reached the Major Leagues: Aaron Fultz of the Cleveland Indians (2000-present), Mike Maroth of the St. Louis Cardinals (2002-present) and Esix Snead, previously with the New York Mets (2002, 2004). Before pursuing his coaching career, Frady played four seasons at Troy State University and helped the Trojans reach the Division II World Series twice. In 1986, his team won the national championship and was later named the best Division II team of all-time at the 1997 Division II College World Series. Frady is very active in the community. He served as Rotary Club president in Madison, Fla., when coaching at North Florida Community College, and continues working through Rotary International as a keynote speaker at numerous events. Frady has a long record of working with chambers of commerce, and conducts instructional clinics for coaches and youth baseball players. Additionally, he had an article about recruiting published in a national magazine. Frady was born in Ellijay, Ga., on Dec. 2, 1962, and graduated from Gilmer High School in He was named the Most Valuable Player on both the basketball and baseball teams his senior year. In 2006, he was inducted into the Gilmer High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
