Gordon waived the reading of the minutes. Treasurer s report Dallas gave the Treasurers report. New Members or Guests Gordon introduced new members, Joey and Amber Chambers. Past Events: Sam reported on the Portland Swap meet; he bought wheels and such. Old Business: The Benefit Car Show raised $ for each charity. Gordon thanked everyone who worked the show. There are dash plaques for all who participated. The music was moved to the back of the building this year which made it so much nicer for people working the front entry. Thank you to Sue, Dell and their committee for getting the club business cards printed with the club logo on the front and back. The cards look very nice. Sue talked about the sale of t-shirts at the show. She said all last year s t's have been sold, also sold were cups, and hats for a total sale of $600. The sizes for t- shirts are Youth Lg to Five X. Sue said she has one Ladies XL Tank for sale. (sold at meeting). Sue said she will be doing a Special Order" of Purple t-shirts that club members will be wearing while working different events during Graffiti, including Show and Shine. 2 New Business: A GREAT BIG SHOUT OUT TO DICK THORNLEY WHO IS CELEBRATING HIS 87TH BIRTHDAY TODAY!!! CONGRATULATIONS DICK. May 6th is the Special Olympics Walk a Thon headed up this year by Dorothea, There will be a BBQ after the event for those who help. The Thank You Picnic will be May 21st at 1PM. please bring a side dish to feed at least 10 people and your own table service. The picnic will be held at the Rod & Gun Club. Jack asked the club if we would consider using the youth at The Teen Center for parking cars at Show & Shine. They have been working to raise money so they can all go on a zipline trip. Don made a Motion to have the teens do the parking and Jerry Seconded. Motion carried and passed. Gordon is sending around a sign-up sheet to work at Show and Shine, parking, selling t's, 50/50, etc. Sam talked about The Central Point Car Show that he is involved with. The show is three days, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 14, 15, & 16. There will be an auction, pin stripers and three or four groups of middle schoolers doing tricked out bicycles. If you have a car in the show, there is going to be a VIP Lounge where food and drinks will be available. There will be cars and venders in all buildings. People will be able to have For Sale signs on their cars in the parking lot. Sunday, there will be Pin-Up girls and awards; part of the proceeds will be going to the High School Vocation Program and possibly United Way. Ray asked Gordon if we were going to have one Graffiti Shirt. (The Flat Heads want one shirt and split the profits). Gordon replied no we will stay with our own shirt because that is our largest fund raiser. He asked everyone present if that s what they wanted to do and everyone raised their hand in favor. There will be a Graffiti Meeting at 7PM, April 12th at Dianne s Restaurant if you would like to attend. Ok...back to Show & Shine, Jerry asked if the club would be selling t shirts downtown this year and the answer is yes. Bob Bright and wife Debbi have purchased some raffle prizes. Speaking of Bob, he had Open Heart Surgery a couple of months ago and is recovering at home. Garland is home after spending a week in the hospital. He is now back at home recovering. Tire Pros will be paying parking fees again this year. Stop in and tell Rick thank you. Upcoming events: May 4 --Pete s Drive In, all new menu. Editor Corner: Before I start running my mouth, I received an requesting the following information be included in this month s newsletter. Well here it is almost May and I for one would love to see the sun a little more often. I cut my grass this last Thursday leaving lawnmower tire tracks all over it. I am sure a lot of you would be taking the classic out a little more if it weren t for the rain. On the back of page 3 you will find a reprint of events that Don and Gail put together earlier this year. If you have anything you would like included in the newsletter (stories, for sale, etc.), please it to strayangelsnews@gmail.com. When putting the newsletter together, I work from that address. Stray Angels T-Shirts Purple t-shirts Following the May Stray Angels meeting, we will be placing an order for purple t- shirts. If you would like a purple shirt, please contact either Dell at or Sue at to place an order. Or, if you are planning to attend the May meeting, please talk with them at that time. As a

3 reminder, for those members who are planning to work the July Show and Shine, you will need to wear a Stray Angels purple shirt the day of the show Grafitti shirts are available for purchase. Regular member price is $15. However, for those members who will be working the July Show and Shine the price is $10 for the first shirt and $15 for additional shirts. Non-member prices are: $18 for sizes youth to extra-large and $20 for sizes 2XL to 5XL. These shirts will be available at future Stray Angels meetings or please contact either Dell or Sue. Oregon Driving Trivia In 1913, the state legislature created the State Highway Department to get Oregon out of the mud. The Oregon Highway Commission was created and at their first meeting, the first order of business: pay for Highway Department postage. At the end of 1913, there were 25 miles of paved roads and vehicles registered in the state. In 1914, Construction of the Columbia River Highway begins in Multnomah, Hood River, Columbia and Clatsop Counties. Work also begins on the Oregon Coast Highway in Clatsop County and the Pacific Highway in Jackson County April/May Car History 17 April 1964 The Ford Mustang, a two-seat, mid-engine sports car, is officially unveiled by Henry Ford II at the World s Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York, on April 17, That same day, the new car also debuted in Ford showrooms across America and almost 22,000 Mustangs were immediately snapped up by buyers. Named for a World War II fighter plane, the Mustang was the first of a type of vehicle that came to be known as a pony car. Ford sold more than 400,000 Mustangs within its first year of production, far exceeding sales expectations. Over the decades, the Mustang underwent numerous evolutions, and it remains in production today, with more than 9 million sold. April 21, 1967 General Motors (GM) celebrates the manufacture of its 100 millionth American-made car. At the time, GM was the world s largest automaker. 29 April 2004 The last Oldsmobile came off the assembly line at the Lansing Car Assembly plant in Michigan, signaling the end of the 106-year-old automotive brand, America s oldest. Factory workers signed the last Oldsmobile, an Alero sedan, before the vehicle was moved to Lansing s R.E. Olds Transportation Museum, where it went on display. The last 500 Aleros ever manufactured featured Final 500 emblems and were painted dark metallic cherry red. 23 May 1903 Dr. H Nelson Jackson and Sewall K Croker began departed on a cross country trip from San Francisco to New York City in a 1-cylinder, 20- hoursepower, 1903 Winton touring car. Answer: No. Designed by famed GM designer Harley Earl, the first Chevrolet Corvette, appeared in 1953, equipped with an inline 6-cylinder engine, labeled the Blue Flame. Only after the insistence of Zora Arkus Duntov, The Father of the Corvette did the 1955 model receive a 265ci V8 engine.
