We stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Gail read minutes from last meeting. Corrections made: Dorothea's last name is Tyler. Dennis is assisting Rob with the first aid kit. Treasurer s report: Treasurer's report: given by Gordon in absence of Ron. New Members or Guests: No new members or guests reported. Past Events: Gordon reported on the Seaside show, Sam Wilson and Jeannie and Eric both won awards and the Stray Angels received a participation award. Gail reported that Blackberry Festival was a success many cars and spectators. Monna reported on Kool Coastal nights a small group went over and camped for the weekend there were several club members and attendance. Sam reported that he went to the Lake of the Woods car show it was right on the lake great show about 90 cars, live bands, and BBQ. Don Larson said several cars went to the NASCAR and it was filmed and shown on ESPN.

2 Don Robertson and Dallas both won at the A1 car show at the Red Barn. Six or seven Stray Angels were at the melon Festival in Winston. Don Larson said the Fun Run in Sutherlin had about 30 cars it was about a 55-mile run. Old Business: Donations to charities which will be discussed during new business. There is still show and shine shirts left over for $10 and there are also dash plaques available for anyone who brought the car to the show and shine and did not receive a dash plaque. New Business: There was discussion on which charities to donate to this year. It was discussed to start a local college scholarship we will also be checking with local high schools if they have an automotive program and will research for possible next year. Dallas made a motion and Don seconded it to donate a $1,000 to UCAN. Ray discussed the amount as we collect food at every event. Motion carried. Jerry spoke of therapy dogs at VA. It was decided that we already donated to the VA and this would be passed on. Don made a motion and Ray seconded it to donate a $1,000 to the VFW. Jim spoke of Bauman's pond. He spoke to owners, they have some donations but are still needing more assistance to keep it going. Jim made a motion and Dallas seconded it to donate a $1,000 to them. Don Larson made a motion and Monna seconded it to donate a $1,000 to Camp Millennium. All motions carried. The parking has gone up at River Forks by $470 totaling $800 to $900; the parking won't be changed. The March show is March 10th and 11th need two cars from the club to be in the show Gordon has applications if you know someone that has not had their car in the show in the last couple years. Bruce made motion and Ray seconded for the club to donate $150 worth of raffle prizes. Charities this year are the Douglas special equipment funds and the Search and Rescue. There will also be a pin-up girl contest. The next meeting is October 8th at 6 p.m. at Winston community center this is a potluck meeting. Jerry made motion and Ray seconded to have the club buy chicken and drinks. Please bring a potluck dish that will serve 8 to 10 people your own plates and silverware. December 10th is our Christmas party. Don Larson has made arrangements for us to use Lookingglass Grange again. December 14th is Festival of Lights there will be a sign-up sheet at the next meeting. Gordon read thank you cards from Douglas County Cancer for the donation and NASCAR races for the attendance and support. Ray made motion and Jerry seconded to adjourn meeting. In the last three weeks the 8 deer that have spent the summer laying in my yard have gone from

3 their summer red coats to their dark gray winter coats. Fall is here and winter is fast coming on its heels. As a child my fourth-grade teacher told us about her growing up in a small community in the Midwest going out on Halloween and saying tricks-for-treats. No, I did not mistype tricks-for-treats. According to our teacher, children did tricks for the treats they received. Weather it was reciting a short poetic verse, sing a short song, or doing a magic trick to get the treat. Of course, times have changed. Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed. It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain; that such festivals may have had pagan roots; and that Samhain itself was Christianized as Halloween by the early Church. Some believe, however, that Halloween began solely as a Christian holiday, separate from ancient festivals like Samhain, Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related guising), attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories and watching horror films. In many parts of the world, the Christian religious observances of All Hallows' Eve, including attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead, remain popular. although elsewhere it is a more commercial and secular celebration. Some Christians historically abstained from meat on All Hallows' Eve, a tradition reflected in the eating of certain vegetarian foods on this vigil day, including apples, potato pancakes, and soul cakes. Thank-you Dallas for sending me the following: The Goldberg Brothers - The Inventors of the Automobile Air Conditioner - Here's a little fact for automotive buffs, or just to dazzle your friends. The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Norman, Hiram, and Maxwell, invented and developed the first automobile air-conditioner. On July 17, 1946, the temperature in Detroit was 97 F degrees. The four brothers walked into old man Henry Ford's office and sweet-talked his secretary into telling him that four gentlemen were there with the most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the electric starter. Henry was curious and invited them into his office. They refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking lot to their car. They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 F degrees inside. They turned on the air conditioner, and cooled the car off almost immediately. The old man got very excited and invited them back to the office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent. The brothers refused, saying they would settle for $2 million, but they wanted the recognition by having a label, 'The Goldberg Air- Conditioner,' on the dashboard of each car in which it was installed. There was no way that old man Ford was going to put the Goldberg's name on two million Fords. They haggled back and forth for about two hours and finally agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would be shown. And so, to this day, all Ford air conditioners show -- Lo, Norm, Hi, and Max -- on the controls.
