But by the afternoon the sun started to come out and it turned into a great day for a major car show in Lexington. The setting was spectacular. And the event benefits Kentucky Children's Hospital to support high quality health care for the children of the Commonwealth. A few of us met for breakfast at the track kitchen as in years past. The rest came in during the day and everyone seemed to enjoy the day. Members Cy Hanks and Lena Cornett had cars in the judged classes but I am not sure how they did. Next year will see Rolls Royce as the featured marquee. Our next tour will travel in parts of the Boone Forest and lunch at Pop's near Farmers. Some of you may remember this for good BBQ on a tour a couple of years ago. Virgil and Phyllis Cole will be doing the tour for us. Be sure to note that reservations for the September trip need to be made early in August. Details elsewhere in the newsletter. Time to start thinking about officers and board members for next year. We replace 3 board members and all elected officials this year. Would also be nice to have new places to travel to neat year. Phil July 16 th Ladies Luncheon By Lo Arnold While the men were enjoying the Concours d'elegance at Keeneland the women gathered at The Gift Box for lunch. This annual event has quickly become a favorite. Everyone enjoyed the food and the Strawberry Soup was popular! We had a surprise visitor this year, Karen & John Blair's daughter Ashley joined us with her beautiful son Isaiah. (He was possibly the best behaved one there.) Although we started having lunch at different tea rooms in the area, every enjoys The Gift Box for its food selection and convenient location and this could become our yearly lunch spot! A: The George N. Pierce Co. of Buffalo, who made the Pierce Arrow, also made iceboxes.

4 BLUEGRASS REGION ANTIQUE AUTOMOBILE CLUB OF AMERICA August 2016 Saturday Aug 13th Daniel Boone Forest Run to Pop s By Phyllis Lawson/Cole We will McDonalds-Winchester (Rt 60), from there we will head to Rt. 15, to Slade,Ky. there we will take a rest stop. Then to Rt 77, thru the Nada Tunnel (note on the right side of the road going up to the tunnel, a spring of water coming off the mtn., my grandparents got drinking water from here for years) after going thru the tunnel, we will travel Rt. 77 out to Rt. 460, when we get to Rt. 460 you are within walking distance of our home, which would be to the left, but we are going right on Rt. 460E, approx. three miles we will turn left on Rt.1693, will travel to Rt. 1274, then to Rt.801, to POPS..POPS is a BBQ restaurant, also has a number of Sweets, to choose from. When leaving POPS, we go right on 801, to stop light, then left on Rt. 60W, to Mt. Sterling. In Mt. Sterling, we will go right at the first light, this will be Rt. 460, follow 460 thru Mt. Sterling and we will bear to the left on 460 to Paris. Take Rt. 627 from Paris to Winchester...almost forgot to mention---my grandfather helped to chisel out the Nada Tunnel... August 14 th Sunday- Lexington Crave Car Display (non-club event) By Jack Garabedian Located at Masterson Station Park. You can get more info at Crave Lexington is a 2-day food and music festival with over 50 food vendors, live music and yes, a car show! With 40,000-50,000 expected attendance. Even though it s a 2 day event, we will only be there on SUNDAY. This year, for our club members, we will have two sessions for car showing on Sunday, 12:00 to 3:00 & 3:00 to 6:00 Two trophies will be given out during each time slot: People's Choice and Judge's Choice Each car entry will get 2 admissions and $20 worth of food/beverage tickets a $32 value for just bring your car. If you plain to attend, please contact me ( ) I have 12 rooms reserved at the Shaker Inn. 2 king rooms at $84.51 (inc. Debbie and I are excited about the new facility she found. You can even go out there to lunch any day and check it out for yourself - Spring Valley Country Club on 2300 Sandersville Rd. Lexington. Call first to verify times for lunch and what is being served: or There is a drop off for Handicapped individuals and just two small steps to enter but no steps inside. The restrooms are on the main floor as well as our dining area. From the dining area, you can walk to the cash bar without steps. However, if you enter the bar from the main lobby then there will be a few steps.. Don't forget to start using your talents to make something for the Auction. SEPTEMBER 9 th -10 th SHOPPERS DELIGHT Waynesville, Ohio - Overnight (2 nights) By Charlie and Carolyn Simpson PLEASE RESERVE YOUR ROOM NOW. WAYNESVILLE WILL BE HAVING AN ART STREET FAIR ON SATURDAY. SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF FUN. This tour will be a 2 night stay in Lebanon, Ohio where we will be shopping in Lebanon and Waynesville, Ohio. Friday night we will be dining at the Houston Inn (5 miles outside Lebanon). Saturday evening we will be dining at the Golden Lamb. Also, the Ohio Renaissance Festival will be going on sat-sun outside Waynesville. Stayed tuned for more information each month!

AUTO AIR CONDITIONER STORY The Goldberg Brothers - The Inventors of the Automobile Air Conditioner Here s a little fact for automotive buffs, or just to dazzle your friends. The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Norman, Hiram, and Max, invented and developed the first automobile air-conditioner. On July 17, 1946, the temperature in Detroit was 97 degrees. The four brothers walked into old man Henry Ford's office and sweet-talked his secretary into telling him that four gentlemen were there with the most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the electric starter. Henry was curious and invited them into his office. They refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking lot to their car. They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 degrees, turned on the air conditioner, and cooled the car off immediately. The old man got very excited and invited them back to the office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent. The brothers refused, saying they would settle for $2 million, but they wanted the recognition by having a label, 'The Goldberg Air-Conditioner,' on the dashboard of each car in which it was installed. Now old man Ford was no way he was going to put the Goldberg's name on two million Fords. They haggled back and forth for about two hours and finally agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would be shown. And so to this day, all Ford air conditioners show --Lo, Norm, Hi, and Max -- on the controls... Control yourself.!
