7 Road Trip Rules Only participating athletes may come to away meets. Injured athletes may go if bus spacing allows. Ineligible students will not be allowed to attend away meets. ALL athletes will be expected to stay until the end of the boys 4x400m (home or away). We are a team, we cheer each other on! Must sign out with me if you are going home with PARENTS Food at meets We will provide some snacks and drink after meets. Please bring other food/drink for during the meet

8 Keep your Body Healthy! F.A.S.T.E.R F = Fruits & Veggies (healthy sugars) A = Always Hydrate (carry a water bottle) S = Start w/ Breakfast (kick start the metabolism) T = Think Protein (chocolate milk after workouts) E = Eat Often (avoid crashes & dips) R = Rest & Recovery (sleep & stretching)

9 Practice Attire Come to practice prepared! BE PREPARED with proper attire! Have a Track Bag with shoes and layers of practice clothing. Easier to take off layers. Expect that we will or could go outside EVERYDAY! Should warm up in sweats at every practice to truly get warmed up We will send you home if you are not adequately prepared.

10 Shoes/Apparel Good pair of running shoes with a good fit to help eliminate those dreaded shin splints. Track Spikes are not required, but are highly recommended. The team has a box of donated spikes from alumni athletes if you d like to borrow a pair for the season. Meet Uniforms Provided uniform top & bottom. Compression shorts, pants or shirts under your uniform should be solid black.

11 Practice Rules Practice begins at 3:45pm (Monday-Friday), including during Spring Break. Practice will be in the Elementary gym until we are ready to go outside. Drive carefully if you if you choose to drive, if you cannot handle this you will be required to walk. We expect you to give 100% at every practice. If you re not going to be at practice, please /call/ text Schneider. If we haven t seen or heard from you in a while: 1 st = Talk with you about your commitment 2 nd = Asked to leave the program

12 Meet Entries Varsity position are earned on and off the track, not simply given based on top performances. Entry limits Some larger invites typically have a 28 entry limit. Others have a 3 per event limit or unlimited JV entries. Meet entries deadlines are sometimes a week ahead of time and cannot be altered once submitted. The coaches will assume that you are able to compete in every meet unless you tell us well in advance. Late notices can be very frustrating. There is always a reason behind every entry. If you want to know the reasoning, please ASK!

13 Practice = Participation Athletes have to be at and able to participate in practice the day before a meet, unless it is pre-approved by the coaches. Example: If you are late to school and not able to practice the day before a meet, you will not be able to participate, but you ll be expected to work the meet. This would hold true for any unexcused absence.

14 Lettering Criteria You must participate in at least ¾ (9) of the varsity meets and score at least 30 total points to earn a Varsity Letter Point System: Varsity Meets = 1 point each (possible 13 points + 2 for Sectionals & State) Personal Record Points You can earn 1 point for a PR per event, per meet Scoring Points You earn the number of team points you earn in the meet (ex. Take 1 st place at a dual meet = 5 lettering points) Relay members divide the team points up among relay members

15 Season Expectations Individual Goals As coaches, our goal is to help each athlete improve. Try different things to see what events are a good fit for you. Set goals for yourself and do not be satisfied once you reach those goals Work hard!!! Above all HAVE FUN!

16 Physicals/Alternate Year Cards If this is the first sport you have participated in this school year, you need to take care of this ASAP. You cannot participate in practice until all of your required paperwork is turned in. Check with Amy in the Athletic Office

17 Athletic Code 1 st Offense (Alcohol/Tobacco/Drugs) Required to sit 21 calendar days, no reduction. Students will be required to complete SAP course in order to regain eligibility 2 nd Offense Full season suspension. Can be reduced to ½ season (5 meets) upon completion of an alcohol and drug assessment 3 rd Offense Suspension from all co-curriculars for one calendar year

18 Proper Conduct Be respectful & good people Make smart choices at practices, at meets and in the classroom If it even enters your mind for one second COULD THIS GET ME IN TROUBLE? you should probably avoid it. Verbal abuse of a teammate, coach, official, opposing athlete or spectator will not be tolerated. (Includes swearing or derogatory comments.) Penalties will vary based on severity. Could range from extra conditioning to a suspension or dismissal.

19 Parents We want parents to be actively involved with our program. We encourage you to talk with us about any concerns, but there is a time and place for this and IT IS NOT AT or AFTER A MEET. Please wait until the next day. There is usually a good explanation for things, so please follow the Chain of Command. First have your son/daughter talk to the their Event Coach. Second, call or the Head Coach. If your problem isn t resolved, contact the AD to setup an appointment.
