4 Communication and Websites: communication is the quickest and easiest way to disimminate information during the school day. As many of you have already noticed, I have an list for the parents. If you have a different address you would prefer information to be sent, or you are not on the list, please me from that address so I can make the adjustment: tgallagher@guerincatholic.org. I have also added student s if they provided them to me We actually have two websites that I will be posting information. GuerinCatholicTrack.com is an easy to update and use website with lots of information the other site is the athletic site for Guerin Catholic sports.guerincatholic.org. I will be posting results and information on this site as well occassional stories. This site allows you to sign up for text or updates. Twitter Students need to let me know if they are going to be late/miss practice. Please contact me with any questions or concerns, as well as communicate appointments or illnesses. Practice Times: Practices will start officially February 13, 2017 We will meet as a team daily at 3:40 to start our prayer, warm-up and stretch routine. Workouts will typically last between 5:15 and 5:45. Practice times depend on the workout for the day and the events being practiced. Weight lifting will fall on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday s during the 3 rd trimester. Saturday practices will be scheduled by each of the event coaches throughout the outdoor season.

5 Practices: *If your child needs to leave early from practice, me. At the end of each practice, it is amazing how many kids need to leave early right after the first one leaves J We are responsible for your student, so we want to make sure they are leaving for a reason and that everyone is aware they are leaving also a watch is necessary to make sure they leave on time (we can t keep checking the time for them) **IF YOUR CHILD USES AN INHALER, PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS CLEARLY LABELED AND THEY BRING IT OUT TO PRACTICE DAILY** Grades: Grades are very important. Kairos needs to be utilized for extra help in subjects that are not meeting expectation levels. We purposely meet at 3:40 each day to allow time after school to get more academic help from the teachers. Not passing courses is not acceptable. If grades slip, sitting out practices and meets might become motivation. Absences: Athletes that are a member of the Guerin Catholic Track and Field Team are expected to make their school, team, and teammates a priority. Athletes are expected to be at meets that they are participating. We compete in several invitationals and have limited number of entries. These entries are due at least a week ahead of the meet. If an athlete doesn t notify the coaches about a conflict we may be left without the ability to replace that athlete in the meet. Since your athlete is choosing to do track, we don t expect skipping to be an issue; however, 3 unexcused absences or missing a meet may result in dismissal from the team. Your student can come down to my room each day, so they have no excuse for not stopping in and letting me know of a conflict, appointment, or need for extra academic help after school. Showing up late to practices will be dealt with by their event coaches. Detentions are usually a result of a poor choice some type of service will be required to make amends.

6 Injuries: Running is a sport that does challenge the body. All steps toward preventative maintenance should be taken by your athlete. This includes a good diet, plenty of rest, hydration, icing (keep cup in freezer) and stretching every night, and coming to pre-season conditioning to develop the base they will be using the rest of the season. We are very fortunate to have St. Vincent s provide our athletic trainer. All injuries must be seen and treated by our Athletic Trainer, Kariel Hoagland. She is the decision maker for athletes being able to practice and/or compete not the athlete. Injured athletes are required to see Kariel daily until cleared for any type of athletic participation. Meets: Each athlete is allowed to compete in up to 4 events during a track meet. All athletes will be encouraged to participate in as many events as they are able. Some meets are invitationals and limit our entries to 2 people with an alternate for each individual event and 4 people and 2-4 alternates for relays. These meets are the only meets that everyone may not be able to participate. It is expected that each athlete stay and support their teammates until the end of the meet before they leave, as well as help clean up our team camp. They will need to check out with their coach before leaving to make sure all are accounted. Failure to do so may result in sitting out the next meet. We are very fortunate to be able to host home meets. All athletes are expected to be at all home meets (even if not competing). This helps us run meets more efficiently. Parents are needed to help run events at our home meets. Without your help, we are not able to put on home meets.

7 Code of Conduct for Athletes and Parents: Our student athletes represent your family, our school, and the Guerin Catholic Community. Good sportsmanship is expected at all times including practices, meets, and out in the community. Foul language and disrespect will not be acceptable. Let the coaching staff handle any issues or disagreements with officials or opponents at meets please. With parental help necessary to put on home meets, there is not a clear boundary between parents and coaches. Please help by allowing the coaches to coach at meets and the athletes to focus on the competition. Parents and friends are not allowed on the infield unless they are helping run an event. Travel: We will take buses to meets that are held during the week in most cases. I will need a head count on those riding the bus to each meet and those needing rides home on the bus we don t want 2 buses staying for 10 kids to ride home. Parents must approve athletes that will be driving themselves or getting rides from other students in writing for local meets. Dress Code: Practices: A good pair of running shoes, spikes, watch, pants and jacket (even when it warms up) no t-shirts that support other schools please Meets: Black sweat suit, team shirt, singlet, and uniform shorts NIKE has partnered with Guerin Catholic. The expectation for the coaching staff is that we wear NIKE apparel at practices and meets. We understand the cost of wearing only NIKE puts on your families, so the hope is that if you need new shoes or clothing, you would consider NIKE apparel. We get discounts on NIKE apparel, so the only offerings on the website are NIKE products.

8 Practice Pack: I understand the financial sacrifice put upon families to not only attend a great school like Guerin Catholic, but also participate in athletics. I have tried to require the least amount in our practice pack in an effort to offer some support to your commitment. In order to look like a unified team at meets, I am asking all athletes to purchase the dri-fit team shirts, racing shorts and a sweat suit offered on the BSN website. I suggest a bag to carry workout attire as well. The sweats and bags are black with names embroidered. If you already have black Guerin Catholic sweats and/or a bag from another sport, they should match close enough. All other items are optional. If your athlete ran cross country or track in the past and already has the purple shorts, they will be the same (no need for another pair). If your athlete wears the purple compression shorts, running shorts must still be purchased to wear over the shorts. Service This season we are going to host 3 CYO track meets to help our grade schools. These meets will fall on a Sunday and our expectation would be that every athlete will help with at least one of these meets. Parents will be needed to help with concessions at these meets which will help with costs from Senior Night. Prom Yes we have a meet (at home) the day of prom. I understand prom is a major event in a high schooler s world but much like life, the meet goes on. With us hosting the meet, it should run very smoothly and quickly as we are in control. For those that will be competing, the expectation is that appointments will need to be made later in the afternoon and conflicts resolved with the coaching staff prior to that Saturday. We will work with athletes individually to make this day special J

9 The 100-Holes of Golf The athletic department has announced the date of the 100-holes of golf marathon. Tuesday, June 7 th is the date. As track and cross country teams, we are responsible for raising pledges. Our golf team is made up of myself and 2 other golfers, each charged with raising pledges. We have not been given our goal yet, but in the years past it has ranged from $ This money goes back to the athletic department to help with the athletic budget. Any money raised above our goal amount will go directly into our budget next season. I am trying to raise money to purchase several leg compression systems that help pump out lactic acid and refresh the legs after hard workouts. Each of the units range between $ depending on if we can get refurbished units. If you have any corportate or business connections that could help us reach or exceed our goal, please let me know.
