We ll be seeing them in all sizes, from the minis displayed along yards and businesses to large ones flapping majestically in the breeze. Looking up history of the flag, I found a wealth of information. Our flag, which stands for our nation s freedom and independence, was designed with great thought and symbolism. The thirteen stripes are for the original thirteen colonies; the white stripes mean purity and innocence; the red stripes mean courage, hardiness and valor. The blue field is for justice and perseverance, the white stars are symbolic of the heavens. Of course, the flag underwent many changes between the original flag for the 13 united colonies and the flag that is familiar to us today. According to the U. S. Flag Code, our flag is considered a living thing because it represents our nation. There is flag etiquette and many regulations regarding it s use. When a flag is folded in a ceremony, each of the twelve folds has a symbolic meaning. Children love seeing flags and waving them. I hope we haven t been remiss in teaching our children to honor Old Glory and all that it means. Happy July 4 th! Ann Palmer June 18, 2017 Meeting Laura Cunningham s topic is Custom Design Your Own Quilt. Be sure to read every page for lots of announcements, news, informa on and pictures! 2 HOW TO GET TWO FOR ONE Charlene Hagerty, our membership chair, will be collecting the $25.00 dues in July and August. Membership for the year begins in September and dues should be paid by then. You may pay with a check. If you pay with cash, please put it in an envelope with your name on it. Our raffle quilt is ready! Time to buy and sell raffle tickets. Each member is responsible for buying/selling at least $10/12 tickets. You may purchase your tickets at guild meetings. Remember for every $10.00, you receive 12 tickets. So this is where the Two for One comes in. Bring a check for $35.00 and you will be getting two things for one check, dues and raffle tickets. (I know that is stretching it, but hopefully it got your attention and you will pay for both things at once.) JOBS AND COMMITTEES With the start of a new guild year, many committees have openings. Look on our website at the job descriptions for a committee or two that you might like to be a part of. Cathy Fennell is looking forward to filling these spots. Give her a call with your willingness to be a friendly, productive guild member. A great way to meet fellow members. I was really impressed with the number of green fat quarters turned in last month. They are simply beautiful. Some lucky member will be the winner. Why not you! Don't forget to bring in your green fat quarters in July and August. They only have to read green, which means they may have other colors in them. Don't forget that there will be an additional prize for the winner. Any questions? Just ask me. Gloria Clark Block of the Month for July: 5
