1 RAMS CHRONICLE VOLUME I, ISSUE 3 Voting Fraud Today, people are willing to do anything to win something. Don't get any ideas, this is an illegal act. If you do it, get ready to hear the sirens. Voting fraud (rigging the voting system) has become a big concern in our country. This issue is so big that it has recently become a hot topic in politics. This issue even comes up in everyday conversation. According to sixth grader and fellow newspaper club member, Tayler Evans, The people who do this should not be able to vote ever again. Donald Trump on the Department of Veterans Donald Trump is a candidate who is not afraid to discuss controversial A Moment in Politics issues. In my experience, Trump likes to talk a lot, but he doesn t usually support what he says with evidence. When it comes to the Department of Veterans, however, Trump backs up his opinion that the Department of Veterans is shocking and unbelievable. He claims that, 30,000 veterans died waiting for care. In his article, he mentions that they have not done enough in Washington. While it is easy to disagree with many of Trump s ideas, he is right. The Department of Veterans should improve their care systems. According to the Daily Signal, This is the first time the national debt has ever exceeded $19 trillion. They went on to state, That s more than $58,000 for each person who lives in the U.S. today (including children). This is shocking to me. It makes me concerned for the future funding of our military and other government agencies. America must find a way to get out of debt. -Sydney Washington

3 Teacher of the Year 3 Mrs.Morrison was nominated for the Prince George s County Teacher of the Year! She is an outstanding teacher, and the staff and students seem to agree that she deserves to be recognized. She teaches both band and orchestra. She has been teaching here at Samuel Ogle for several years. She taught my brother who is about to go into the twelfth grade. Here are some memorable moments that some of her current students shared with me: It was the beginning of the school year, and we were learning new notes and more complex pieces of music. The trumpets were having trouble with the melody of the song, so she went up to the chalkboard, and she circled the measure and put fireworks around it. As she was frantically putting fireworks around it, her piece of chalk broke in half and fell to the ground. Everybody went silent then burst out laughing!! -Lauryn Hall, 6 th grade She tells stories about her old school and her kids, and it s really funny. -Leah Arrieta, 7 th grade I would say my favorite memory was when she would tell us stories that were hilarious and were based on previous years. - Chris Smith, 6 th grade The funniest moment is when she stomps on the podium. She gets really into it. -Miles Magruder, 6 th grade She was at a band competition, and her baton flew out of her hand, so the judges said, You should really get a baton, it helps the band. So the flutes gave her her baton and the judges said, Oh, so you have a baton now? They didn t see any of it! -Rebecca Long, 6 th grade When she gets super into it, she starts squatting and moving! - Lola Adegbemileke, 6 th grade I also spoke with two staff members who had some nice things to say: Oh wow, she works very hard. I eat lunch with her every day, and you can see it. The last time the band performed at the school, it was the best I ve ever seen! Mr.Q, P.E. Teacher She s professional, organized, dedicated, and willing to go the extra mile. - Mrs. Taylor-Orr As we can all see, Mrs. Morrison is an amazing teacher! 4 The Importance of Stretching and Exercising As an elite tennis player, I understand the importance of stretching. I play tennis four days a week, three hours a day. As soon as I get home, I immediately go upstairs to my room, grab my elastic band and foam roller and start stretching. Foam rollers, pictured below, are small pieces of equipment that allow you to massage your own muscles. They aid in muscle recovery after a workout and can help improve muscle elasticity. As an athlete, it is important to stretch because it prevents any future injuries. Hey, I should know; I had a shoulder and knee injury in November of You are probably wondering why you should stretch? Well, here are a few reasons why: 1. Stretching helps improve one s joint range of motion 2. Stretching decreases the risk of injuries 3. Stretching improves athletic performances in some activities 4. Stretching increases blood flow to the muscles However, be careful of how you stretch. If done incorrectly, it can do more harm than good. Exercising is and should be a part of everyone s daily life. Exercising is very important because it can prevent diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Disease. Exercising can also have immediate and long-term health benefits. For example, it can help manage weight better, help with depression, lift moods, and improve sleep patterns and stamina. People should exercise at least 30 minutes a day and should do things like cardio and weights. Remember, don t over-exercise because that can cause injuries too! The Jungle Book Review -Lauryn Hall The Jungle Book, which has made over 100 million dollars, was a great movie. It was very detailed and very graphic. My favorite characters were basically the main characters such as Mowgli, Akela, Raksha, Sher Khan (Ugh), Baloo, Bagheera, etc. The movie sometimes made me jump on some scenes. Disclaimer: Some spoilers beyond this point. Some parts were also super sad, like when Mowgli s Wolf Father got killed by Sher Khan. I was also disappointed because he was the leader of the pack and an excellent influence. My favorite part of The Jungle Book was when all the animals migrated to the water hole. It was amazing how different animals came together and were not fighting at any point and just drinking peacefully. I would recommend you to see this movie. It is guaranteed to be entertaining for all ages. You will have different emotions and perspectives, but it s a great movie to enjoy. Thanks to Jon Favreau for directing this movie. 5 RAMS CHRONICLE VOLUME I, ISSUE 3 Spring into Fashion Spring has officially started. Flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing, and fashions are trending! As you read further, you will be informed on what s in and what s out for this warm and sunny season. It s time to say, Goodbye, to the dark colors of navy blue and say, Hello, to the bright colors of sky blue. This is so because studies show that it is better to wear brighter colors in warmer weather and to wear darker colors in colder weather. So get those dark colors out of your closet, people! You have some shopping to do. Girls For girls, it s pretty easy. Especially since I'm a girl. When it s springtime, you don t want to wear something that is too hot or too cold. You want to wear something that is good throughout the whole season like a floral blouse that has sleeves that go halfway down your arms and a pair of capris. This is an example of something warm and cool enough to wear for spring. Also, it wouldn t hurt to carry a jacket around, just in case it s not such a warm day. But if this isn t your style, then go with whatever you like. Boys For boys, it s a bit more complicated. Boys are more into shorts, joggers, and t-shirts all year around. But not all that would be such a bad idea for a summer look. Only one thing: this is spring, not summer. For boys, the shorts and t-shirts are fine to wear for spring. But, as said before, brighter colors are better to wear in spring. I suggest one or all of the following colors: Light/sky blue Orange White Bright red Yellow Bright/ neon green I hope you liked my fashion tips and tricks.
