THE PREZ SEZ: The 2014 camping season has ended, our December luncheon has passed, and we are now all scurrying about in enthusiastic preparation for this wonderful time of year. Since December 6th, Lynn and I have visited Land Yacht Harbor in Melbourne, FL, and Ft. Wilderness at WDW in Orlando (had to see the candlelight processional in EPCOT one more time before our annual passes expired). We are presently back home in Keswick trying to get everything accomplished in time to spend Christmas with our family in Northern Virginia. It is our plan to return to Florida immediately following the New Year Holiday. We are looking forward to a great Airstreaming" year in 2015 Our rally plans are excellent, offering many diverse activities sure to please unit members. The entire schedule is included again for your information. Please be sure to review the January luncheon information and inform Linda and Bob Lee of your intention to attend. Details for the April rally hosted by Sam & Karen Barnard are also incuded. Finally, a HOUSTONFEST rally coupon appears, too (for you procrastinators, only 5 sites are left). At a short Executive Board Meeting following the 12/6 luncheon, a Nominating Committee tasked with preparing a recommended slate of officers for 2016 was appointed. DOUGLAS POWELL and EDITH STUTTS were appointed, with Douglas serving as Chairman. One more member of the committee is needed, and the board granted Douglas the authority to appoint that third member. The Virginia Unit is beginning its 6th decade of success - the only way for that outstanding longevity to continue is for all members to participate in unit activities and to take a turn in assuming unit responsibilities. Please give serious consideration to accepting a position on the Executive Board for Accepting an officer position is one of the best ways to get better acquainted with all members and to enjoy the club even more Help the nominating committee in their labors by answering Of Course when they ask you to accept a nomination for office. Be sure to take note of the new members listed in this issue - we are truly blessed to have so many new folks join us. I m sure that everyone will convey a warm welcome to each when we meet them at club functions A special effort will be made, after coordinating information with Treasurer Debby Doberer, to include a new Unit Directory in the next issue of the newsletter. I had hoped that I would be up to the trip; but, the wise thing to do yet is to stay close to home. I had a bunionectomy a little over a week ago and getting around is challenging and there is a measure of discomfort in the process. I will be thinking of you all. 3 CHRISTMAS/GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY GATHERING: On Saturday, December 6, 2014, Virginia Unit #109 gathered at The Babcock House in Appomattox for their Christmas luncheon and celebration of being a chartered WBCCI unit for 50 years The Lees, Harpers, Brinks, Kolbs, Hoffmans, Sibleys, Lamberts, Hamletts, Stutts, Powells, Doberers, Learys, and Bartelts enjoyed fellowship, a delicious buffet, music and celebration. Thanks, Gary and Lynn, for coordinating all of this with 50-year anniversary touches of bags of golden coins for all and a special cake with The Virginia Traveler logo on it. The very talented John and Jane Sibley entertained us with their musical talents and led us in a holiday sing-a-long. Special thanks to the two of you It was especially great to have the smiling faces of Harold, Grace, D.A. and Joe. May the new year bring continued improving and good health for you all and the rest of our group It cannot go without noting the wit and humor of Grace and the result of no L, the fashion statements of D.A. s festive, full-length Christmas tree dress, the sparkle of Rich s suspenders and tie, the style of Tom s had-to-be-tied-by-edith bow tie, Glady s you look like a fashion model dress, and the red pants duo of Kay and Julia. 6 HOUSTONFEST RALLY Thursday, April 30, Sunday, May 3, 2015 Old$Crank s$campground$ 407$S.$Railroad$Avenue$ Galax,$VA$$$24333$ This is a new event for our unit. HOUSTONFEST is held to honor the memory of a local Galax lad who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident at age 18. HOUSTON CALDWELL was an excellent musician and active community member. The festival, held in FELT S PARK, features 3 stages with different groups playing at each all day long and into the late evening on both Friday and Saturday. Wander the grounds and enjoy all the performing artists. Major stars such as RICKY SKAGGS, DR. RALPH STANLEY, DOYLE LAWSON, RHONDA VINCENT, etc. have participated in past events (the schedule for the 2015 festival will be posted early next year). We will be parked directly across the street from Felt s Park with 3-point hook-ups. The special rate of $30.00 per night (tax inclusive) has been negotiated with Old Crank s. We ll be camped within walking distance to just about anything you could need in town (there is even an ice cream shop adjacent to the campground). There are only 15 sites in Old Crank s C.G. - ATTENDANCE WILL BE LIMITED TO THE FIRST 15 DEPOSITS RECEIVED. Don t be left out - mail your coupon and deposit ASAP Festival admission is not included.
