1 Moorefield Station Elementary After School Enrichment Program Fall 2013 Course Catalog

2 Dear Parents: We are excited to offer the first ASEP classes for Moorefield Station. Attached please find is a list of the courses offered this session. The classes begin the week of September 30 th and run for 6, 8, 10 and 14 week. ASEP will offer only one make-up class per course cancelled due to weather or unplanned school closings. Classes cancelled by s will be rescheduled. Classes are held Monday thru Friday, and the ALL class times are 2:45 to 3:45. All classes are held at Moorefield Station Elementary. Registration will be held on-line from Friday, September 6 th through midnight Monday, September 23 rd. in the courses will be done on a first payment received basis. If you choose to register for a class, please follow these instructions: 1) Choose a class(es) from the class catalog. 2) Complete the registration form on-line. 3) Write one check per child per class in the amount indicated in the class catalog. Please write the name of the child you are registering in the memo line of the check. PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME CLASSES ARE TO BE PAID VIA THE VENDORS WEBSITE. 4) Make the check payable to the or business name listed on the list. (If the check is not accurate (with the wrong payee or amount), your child will not be enrolled until a replacement check is received. (NOTE you risk losing your spot in the class if the forms are not correct). 5) Please place the check in an envelope marked ASEP and drop in the front office ASEP box or send it in your child s backpack. The contents of the ASEP box will be retrieved daily. 6) Separate checks must be made out for each child participating in the program. In addition, separate checks must be made out for each class. 7) Absolutely NO registrations will be accepted after midnight Monday, September 23 rd. 8) No refunds will be issued if you cancel your registration after midnight Monday, September 23 rd. Please note the following: 1) Pick up from the program is PROMPTLY at 3:45 pm (unless otherwise noted). A late pickup fee of $20 for every 15 minutes you are late. After 2 late pickups or if you are more than 20 mins. late, ASEP reserves the right to terminate your child s participation in the program without a refund. 2) Children are required to conduct themselves in the same manner as they do during school hours. Please remind your children to treat the s with respect and keep their body parts to themselves or their participation in the program will be terminated without a refund. 3) No refunds will be issued. If you have concerns regarding the distribution (i.e. boys vs girls or age range) of students, please contact us, prior to the end of registration. Volunteers: We need parent volunteers to assist with the sign-in and sign-out times during the program. All participating students will be signed in by their. A sign-in volunteer will verify the location of absent students. Students will only be signed out by their parent or guardian. This system ensures parents are notified if their child does not attend their program. If you volunteer for this responsibility your child will get priority placement in the class(es) of their choice and get you entered into a raffle for special prize. 3 the Junior Video Game Design 1 3 C3 Cyber Club 8-12 $ 185 Monday Now available for grades 1st-3rd, this special class is specifically designed for young children to cultivate their interest to become game designers, multimedia artist, engineers, programmers and more! Give your child the opportunity to see how professional games are made. Learn cutting edge computer skills through the fun art of 3D Game Design using award winning Platinum Arts Sandbox. In this exciting class, children will use basic 3D modeling skills to create their very own video game. They will learn to customize game attributes and build their own virtual world from scratch. Students will acquire computer skills, mathematics, creativity and basic problem solving skills. Start : 9/30 Class dates: 9/30, 10/7, 10/21, 10/28, 11/11, 11/18, 11/25, 12/2 MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO: C3 CYBER CLUB 3D Game Design 3-5 C3 Cyber Club 8-12 $ 185 Monday In this exciting class, children will use basic 3D modeling skills to create their very own platform based video game. Students create their own unique puzzles and challenges in a 3D game world utilizing tools such a teleporters, jump pads, and lava. They also learn how to add characters, customize game attributes, and build their own virtual world from scratch. Students use their imagination, and problem-solving skills in order to find new ways to create different in-game puzzles for their classmates to solve. By the last class students will have a fully functional level and will receive a link to download the software and student levels. Introduce your students to the world of energy in all its amazing forms. This unit explores many sources of energy from wind and solar power to biofuel and fossil fuel. Students will define terms like renewable, landfill, greenhouse effect and generator and build moving models of just some of the awesome ways we power our world. Sports Spectacular K-2 Overtime Athletics 8-30 $ 100 Monday Do you love to play sports? Then you'll love Sports Spectacular! Each week we'll play a different sport or game including: basketball, soccer, flag football, kickball, capture the flag, tag games and MORE! Get moving with games like Bump and Bite, Knights and Dragons, the Numbers Game, and Safe Base. We'll work on teamwork, sportsmanship and fitness, all while having FUN. Sign up today! 5 the Play Ball! Come join OTA for our ALL games ALL the time after school program. The All Star Sports Scrimmaging program features a variety of sports (basketball, soccer, flag football, etc.) and will be structured as a REAL GAME from start to finish. Choose up sides and get ready to play! Coaches will organize each game to teach kids the rules of competition, team play, and sportsmanship. We have always believed athletes get better the more they play. Here is your chance! This organized scrimmage every week will give players the opportunity to test new skills and get more comfortable in game situations. Come be a part of our TEAM! We teach more than 2,000 children each week. Many state and national champions have come from our programs, but most of our students are just looking to have fun! Class time is split between lesson and play. Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies. Play time is structured to pair each student against an opponent of similar skill. Students will have the opportunity to play in local, state and national tournaments. All chess supplies provided. 6 Course Grade Creative Drama K-2 Instructor(s) / The Rainbow Company the 5 12 $ 90 Tuesday Creative Drama is for children who love to imagine, pretend, and dress in a variety of costumes. Each week partial costumes are provided for a different story that students utilize in the practice and expansion of necessary theatrical skills. Students learn characterization, facial and vocal expression, and basic stage direction. Race $ 25 Tuesday Students will enjoy a 50/50 format fitness class with a combination of strength and endurance. From running and pushups, to drills and cardio kickboxing, Students will experience a workout that is fun!! Participants who are interested in participating the Making a Difference Run/Walk at Sanders Corner Elementary on November 17thshould register at b434-70c8c0a This is optional but our class will have weekly goals to help students prepare for the race. 7 the Curtain Call 3 5 The Rainbow Company 5 12 $ 90 Wednesday Curtain Call is designed for the reading student and challenges the imagination. Students learn character development through the text, the mechanics of blocking, projecting, and all aspects of behaving realistically before a live audience. A script is provided and the students memorize their lines, memorize their blocking, and work together as a cast. There will be a performance at the end. This class will be high energy, fast paced, and will provide an opportunity to exercise in the healthy heart zone. 8 the Laws of Motion 3-5 Bricks 4 Kidz 20 $150 Wednesday Introduce kids to physics, including the Laws of Motion made famous by Sir Isaac Newton. At Bricks 4 Kidz, we know how to keep hands and minds busy! Who says physics is boring? Test out some of Sir Isaac Newton s Laws of motion with models that illustrate the concepts of inertia, force, mass, acceleration, and the observation that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. We doubt you ll stay at rest with these challenging projects designed to accelerate the learning with the force of fun! Abrakadoodle K-2 Abrakadoodle 5 20 $ 150 Thursday Through Abrakadoodle s unique art program, children learn skills that will last them a lifetime and help their imaginations take flight. They learn about contour drawing, patterning, font design, cartooning and other techniques. Each series builds confidence and creativity while exploring fun and interesting artists and artist styles. This is not about copying the teacher s drawing but rather about learning skills and using their own imagination to create unique art! Each lesson provides skill development and imaginative applications. Confidence in drawing abilities grows! And each child creates art that is as unique as he or she is. Our hip hop classes are designed for high energy students who love to shake, wiggle, and dance. Each class will teach a different combination, work on hip hop tricks and stalls, as well as create an overall performance for the final day to show the parents. ASL will use age appropriate music for each class and I am sure you will never get tired of watching the routines at home! 10 the Jr. Mechanical Engineering K 2 Engineering for Kids 8-14 $ 195 Thursday The Junior Mechanical Engineering classes introduce our youngest engineers to fundamental concepts of energy, materials, and movement. Through open and focused exploration, students explore and construct their own roller coasters, catapults, cars, and more. During this program, students will also construct various different toys throughout this unit such as spinners, magical boomerang cans, wind-up whirligigs, and more. In just 8 weeks, our drama club will expose kids to the basics of theatre while they rehearse a fully-staged short play! They will use software to plan, test, and modify sequences of instructions for a variety of life-like robotic behaviors. They will also learn to collect and analyze data from the robot's sensors. Once the students have mastered the programming including the use of sensors, students will design and program the robots to compete in simulated Olympic events such as a sprinting in a race, throwing a basketball, and shooting a puck into a hockey goal etc. This program will provide a series of real-life activities, covering topics within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics all using LEGO Robotics. 13 the Baking Club 1 5 Kayla Marlin 25 Class: $100 Supply Fee $ 25 Friday Each class will be filled with a different type of decorating project! From Dispiciple Me cupcakes to chocolate football covered strawberries and dipped oreos. Just think pinterest! Youngsters will have a blast learning different techniques and decorating tips. All supplies will be store bought and different each class. There will also be opportunities for students to choose what some projects will be! Students should bring in a small Tupperware container to each class to transport their creations home.
