1 January H Council Meeting The next 4-H Council meeting will be held Monday, January 25 th in the courthouse meeting room at 7:00 p.m. Ambassador Meeting The Morris County 4-H Ambassadors will meet on Monday, January 25 th in the courthouse meeting room following the 4-H Council meeting. Cloverbud Meeting The next county Cloverbud meeting will be held on Thursday, January 21 st at 7:00 p.m. in the courthouse meeting room. County Fiber Arts Meeting There will be a county Fiber Arts meeting held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Council Grove from 6-8 pm. Please bring your supplies. Anyone is welcome to attend, especially 4-Hers who are not enrolled in the project but are interested in learning more. Northeast Area KAP Judging 4-Hers who were named a senior county project award winner and who have passed their 14 th birthday BEFORE January 1, 2016, but NOT their 19 th birthday before January 1, 2016, are eligible to participate in the Northeast Area KAP Screening. 4-Hers may submit a KAP for each project area in which they were name a champion. 2 4-H Club Day & Regional 4-H Club Day The Morris County 4-H Club Day will be held on Saturday, March 5th at the Council Grove Elementary School. Entry forms are attached to this newsletter or are available on our website at: The entry deadline is Friday, February 19 th. Regional 4-H Club Day will be held on March 19 th at Madison High School. County Project Leaders Attached to this newsletter is the list of the county project leaders for the H year. There are some project areas where we are missing a leader and we would appreciate if anyone would call or to volunteer. Northeast Leadership Event (NELE) Youth between the ages of 12 and 18 are encouraged to attend the Northeast Area Leadership Event on January 30 th. The event will be held at Riley County High School from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The day is designed to help future and present day leaders develop leadership skills, meet new friends, and take home great ideas back to their local club. The cost to attend is $25 and will include workshops, lunch, snacks, and a t-shirt. Additional information is attached to this newsletter. To register, visit kansas4h.org. The registration and payment deadline is January 15 th. Kansas 4-H Scholarship The 2016 Kansas 4-H Scholarship application is available on our website at in a fillable form. Forms are also available in the Extension Office. 4-H members wanting to apply need to have completed applications submitted to the Extension Office by Monday, January 25 th. Scholarship selection is based on 4-H merit: 40 percent on 4-H leadership, 30 percent on citizenship/community service in 4-H, 20 percent on 4-H participation and recognition, and 10 percent on non-4-h participation, leadership, community service, and recognition in school and community. Each application must include a transcript of grades and two letters of reference (one from school personnel and one from a nonrelated 4-H leader or non-related current employee of K-State Research and Extension). Graduating seniors and college students are encouraged to apply. Kansas 4-H with the Wildcat Women Mark your calendars for February 27th at 3:30PM for the annual KAE4-HA Wildcat Women game with Kansas 4-H. The ticket cost is $20 per person and each participant will receive a t-shirt, ticket to the game, and a meal voucher for a hot dog and drink. The registration and payment deadline is January 15, The Wildcat Women will be taking on the Baylor Bears that Saturday.

3 Citizenship in Action Would you like to have more influence in laws and rules that affect your life? Then you ll want to go to Kansas 4-H Citizenship in Action (CIA)! CIA will be held February 14-15, The purpose of this event is for Kansas youth to learn how the state legislative process works and how their voice and participation in decision-making can make a difference in their local communities. The legislative visit will not only familiarize youth with the capitol building, but also show them how they can affect the legislative process. The cost to attend is $165. Because of the generosity of the Morris County 4-H Foundation, Morris County 4-Hers may attend for $99. Registration is due January 15, Riley County Hippology & Quiz Bowl The 2016 Riley County Hippology and Quiz Bowl Contest will be held on Saturday, January 16, Entry forms are available in the Flint Hills Extension Office and are due by January 13. Horse Panorama The H Horse Panorama has been scheduled for January at Rock Springs. Registration is due January 15 th. Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) The 2016 dates for the Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) trip are June 16-27, Through their participation, 4- Hers will learn about the political process, visit Capitol Hill, meet with Kansas legislators, participate in workshops and assembly groups, visit historic sites and memorials, and interact with 4-H members from other states. Shawnee County Livestock and Horse Judging Clinic The Shawnee county livestock and horse judging clinic will be held March 19 th in Topeka. Registration will begin at 12:00 p.m. and the judging clinic will start at 1:00 p.m. Attention 4-H Rabbit Owners Someone has donated a bunch of rabbit cages and equipment for our 4-H kids in the rabbit project. 4 Kansas Lifts Ban on Poultry Exhibitions The Kansas Department of Agriculture announced on Dec. 4, 2015, that it will be lifting the ban placed on poultry exhibitions and other events where birds are gathered or co-mingled. The order, signed by Secretary of Agriculture Jackie McClaskey on June 9, 2015, was implemented in an effort to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza (HPAI) and protect poultry health in Kansas. While the ban is lifted, Dr. Brown continues to encourage all poultry owners to monitor their flocks and maintain good biosecurity practices. Also, for youth between the ages of 12 and 17 they can become certified as KDWPT Junior Assisting Angler Volunteers. 5 Northeast 4-H Leadership Event What: The Northeast Area 4-H Leadership Event is designed for future and present day leaders! This is open to ages years old and we hope to meet people from all over the Northeast Area! This is an event that will help to create leadership skills, with class leaders that will share amazing activities. Guest speakers are Mr. Cain Fouard and Mr. Matthew Kelso.
