This State Workshop is held every year and is a mere 45 minute drive from Lawrence. I know it falls at the start of spring break but you should try to attend it just once while in 4H photography! Hint...hint...Learning Opportunity! This year some of the classes offered at the workshop included: action photography, digital composition, digital photo manipulation, portraits, gem, mineral and fossil photography. It was a great day and three Douglas County 4Hers attended: Hayden Slough, Aidan Rothrock and Lauren Seybold. These 4Hers participated in a variety of the classes and they said they learned something! The workshop also offers a Photo Judging Contest. If you haven't done a photo judging contest, it consists of a short written test (multiple choice), the judging part (placing 4 photos in order of best to worst) and a problem class (matching game). Hayden and Aidan participated in the Judging Contest and Aidan took 3rd Place in the senior division! Awesome Job, Aidan! Michele Schneck 4-H Project Add and Enrollment Deadline- May 1 All 4-H ers must establish project enrollment by May 1 to be eligible to exhibit in those project areas at the Douglas County Fair. Contest Rules: 1) Photos must be 4-H related and appropriate. 2) They must be posted, with text, on the Douglas County, Kansas 4-H Facebook page. 3) Text should include #dg4h and club identification. 4) One point will be awarded per club, per event. 5) For multi-day events, one point will be awarded per club, per day. COUNTY READING CLUB The bi-annual meeting of the county reading club will be Thursday, April 27th at 7 pm in the Dreher Family 4-H Building kitchen. All are welcome. Bring a favorite book that you are reading to share with the group. The book for the Reading Contest at the County Fair will be announced and free copies of the book will be available to all who attend the meeting. If you are interested in being a Reading Club officer please contact Marisa Dallman at or 3dallman@gmail.com KAP Tip of the Month The 4-H Leadership and Citizenship Experiences is Section 3 in the Intermediate KAP and Section 4 in the Senior KAP. This section should only include leadership and citizenship activities, meetings, committees, and offices that relate to the specific project. The documentation you kept for Section 2 will help you with this section also. Identify all the activities that involved leadership and/or citizenship and flag them for this section. Remember, leadership is teaching another person or group skills or information and includes organizing or coordinating an activity, event, or meeting; selecting and preparing materials and selecting presenters. Citizenship is helping in your community and serving others without compensation. Some activities may fit into both categories. When listing the items in the section use strong verbs to explain exactly what your role was in the event/ activity. Did you demonstrate? Did you organize? Did you prepare? Did you assist? If you collected and donated food items for a food pantry, that s citizenship. If you organized the food drive for the food pantry, that s leadership. Each item listed should be identified with the level of participation, the number of hours, and the audience (number of people reached). Even though this section is project specific and only for one year, both leadership and citizenship activities should be included.
