It s a great opportunity to gain insight on processes and systems that have worked for this powerhouse program. Credentialing 101 Tim Morgan Chicago D This class will cover Level 1 and Level 2 basics. Nothing fancy here, just good ole building and tumbling technique. If you teach your athletes how to do it right the first time - your upper level skills will be stronger. This is a great class for those credentialing for the first tim e. Coaching Tips & Tricks: Engaging Practices that Motivate Athletes Lee Grobstein Salon 8-10 Lee Grobstein, owner of Star Athletics (NJ), will share with you one of their techniques for molding athletes into top notch competitors. Train your athletes to be successful in high pressure situations utilizing competition during practice. Learn and discuss different ways to motivate athletes and teams throughout different parts of your season. Building: Twisting Stunts I (Rules Based Demos) Building Team Terminal 1-3 This rules and glossary based course will utilize both live demo groups and video based instruction for twisting stunts with less than 1 twist. This class will cover Levels 1-3. Tumbling Pre Skills: Foundational Safety-based Tumbling Tumbling Team Terminal 5 Foundational skills that are necessary for successful performance of tumbling as an athlete progresses through the levels. Pom Progressions John Peters Chicago A&B John Peters presents combinations and incorporation of floor work and skill development. Participation in this class will qualify you for Pom Emphasis testing. Marley vs. Spring Floor Bonita Saldana Chicago G How to translate cheer skills into proper hip hop technique and teach the correct technical approach of airborne Hip Hop skills to your crossover athletes. Great for cross-over coaches! The Gym Certification Program recognizes member all star programs who meet the minimum requirements for accreditation as it pertains to standard of care in their All Star program. This 2-part workshop helps your leadership team do exactly that. One key outcome of the workshop is a written action plan for your leadership team, created with the guidance of the PCA workshop facilitator, specific to the needs and circumstances of your program. This stress can freeze athletes from achieving skills that they had before, threatening their self-efficacy and self-esteem. This class takes lessons from psychology for the best ways to assist an athlete through a mental block. In this class, some theories and ideas on the nature of mental blocks will be explored as well as strategies and tactics for you to use to empower your athlete to journey from blocked to empowered. They will share with attendees the World Cup philosophies on what winning means and how to best train champions. The information gathered in this forum will be given to the appropriate committees and boards within the USASF to review and determine the next steps. THIS is the way for your voice to be heard and for your ideas to move in a positive way for All Star. Be a part of the conversation in order to affect change. Group 2- Cheer Rules Slate Preview NACCC Representatives Chicago C&D It s a rules year. be a part of the process.! Every two years, USASF members are asked to submit rules and age grid proposals for consideration. A key step in the process is a preview of the proposed rules slate at the Regional Convention for discussion. NACCC representatives will present the slate during the lunch sessions and there is an opportunity to discuss the proposals in Let s Talk About It during Session 14 at 1:45 pm. Class Option: Understanding the Glossary Jessica Legette & Dana Fielding Terminal 1-3 Required for Safety Judge Candidates & Open to all Regional Convention Attendees : Interpreting the glossary correctly can help your team avoid common rule infractions. The USASF Level Rules include terms often found in the glossary, but not often reviewed. Learn how to best use the resources available to your program.

We ll discuss the interpretation of common verbiage in dance and learn about examples of constructive and useful critiques and the terms to use for maximum impact. 1:45-2:35 pm - Session 14 All Star Rules Slate: Let s Talk About the Proposals NACCC Representatives Chicago C Do you want to keep the conversation going? We are looking for feedback on the Rules Slate Preview presented during the lunch rotations. Attend this focus group if you would like to ask questions or provide feedback. All Star is a Business - So Run it Like One! Joelle Antico & Elaine Pascale Chicago D Keeping your business financially sound can be one of the most challenging aspects of owning an All Star program. Joelle Antico [Graduate of Penn State University with a BS in Accounting] credits a large portion of their success to their fiscal management strategies. In this session, she will share with you how putting business first has created an All Star program that sees success both on the mat and in their bottom line. Course covers what is required to coach athletes with Special Needs, the People First Language, preview of an Intake Form for new athletes and a look at The Handbook. Do This, Not That Patty Adams Chicago A&B Manipulating your choreography for maximum audience connection. You ll collaborate in groups to stir creative processes, network with other coaches and expand your artistic expression. Play by Play vs Color Commentary - Dance Critiques Dance Directors Chicago G Learn the difference between just saying what you see vs communicating the emotional effect and technical success of a performance. We ll watch videos and share discussions of technique, choreography, execution and showmanship.

7 Saturday - USASF Regional Convention (page 7) 2:45-3:35 pm - Session 15 Building: Stunt Inversions (Rules Based Demos) Building Team Grand Ballroom This rules and glossary based course will utilize both live demo groups and video based instruction for stunt inversions. This class will cover Levels 1-5. Tumbling: Level 4 (Rules Based Demos) Tumbling Team Terminal 5 Mastering the strength, flexibility, and technique for safely performing Level 4 skills. Building: Pyramid Rules Building Team Salon 5-7 In this classroom session you will learn what is and is not legal in the Pyramid Level Rules. This class will cover Levels 1-5. Special Needs: Getting Fit, Flexible & Having Fun Debbie Love & Glenda Broderick Salon 8-10 Learn to challenge your athletes through a series of exercises fit for various disabilities. The focus is on injury prevention and flexibility. Debbie Love will give you fun-filled examples of warm-up drills that takes the athlete through a full range of motion of the joints which is extremely important for this population. Core Blast Cheryl Paquette Chicago A&B Cheryl Paquette conducts this popular class full of innovative ideas to enhance performance skills by strengthening the core. Cheer AND Dance, this class is for you! Leveling your Teams: Athlete Assessment Tools Chicago C Evaluating athletes and placing them on the appropriate level team can be a daunting task. Use the USASF Level Rules as your guide to determine the skills needed for an athlete to be assessed and placed appropriately. We have created some tools for coaches to use during team placements and throughout the year to monitor progress. Resilience not Perfection: Sports Psychology Strategies & Tactics Dr. Russell Kennedy Chicago D Strategies and Tactics from Sports Psychology for Helping Cheerleaders Perform Well In order to inspire our athletes to get their best or peak performance in their daily training, our coaches need the proper mindset. The connection between the coaching staff and the team is contagious and bidirectional. The best way to get the team in order, is to get the coaches in order first. When the coach has their head in the game, so will the team. Protection, Empowerment, Advise, and Connection are the four pillars of dignified coaching. One of these four pillars should be behind almost every interaction with your athletes. It will lead to not only better success in your daily practices, better success at competitions, but you ll be helping to create powerful young adults who will become productive happy citizens. This class combines lessons from decades of gymnastics and cheer coaching along with studies in biology and psychology. Here you will learn tactics to assist coaches in helping create teams of mentally strong athletes. It s a way of turning your gym into a vehicle of positive youth development for the empowerment of our participants. At the end of the class, you ll have some new tools to to add to your coaching toolbox that are aimed to empower both athletes and coaches alike. Athlete Development: Tools for Character Development & Connecting with Athletes Karen WIlson & Brantley Jittu Chicago G Come to the Athlete Development class and learn about the exciting new programs designed specifically for your athletes.
