Market Rabbit Tattooing Market Rabbit Tattooing will be held Monday, August 6, 2018 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Highland County Fairgrounds in the Poultry & Rabbit Barn. 3 Summer 4-H Judging Tuesday, July 10, 2018 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Hillsboro High School. Judging schedules will be released soon at: highland.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth development/judging-schedules Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. will be the Summer Judging Awards & Style Review at Southern State Community College in the Patriot Center. State Fair Qualifying Special Interest Judging For those 4-H members whose projects will be judged at fair; however, would like to compete at State Fair, state fair qualifying judging will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Extension Office from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Call to schedule. All animals must be in Possession June 1 st All animals that will be shown at the 2018 Highland County Junior Fair must be in possession by June 1, Goats & Lambs need to have Scrapie tags at tag-in. Tagging will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 starting at 7:00 a.m. for hogs, 7:30 for goats and 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for all other species. Tagging procedures for hogs are the same as last year! Market Hog Exhibitors are not required to come to entry day this year, when you tag your hog in June you will fill out the form. Equine Registration Day will be held Saturday June 2, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds. All 4-H horse members are required to bring each project horse for pictures, measurement, and to turn in completed horse forms. Each 4-H member will pay $2.00 per horse for pictures. The $2.00 fee for pictures has to be paid this same day and correct change is required. Jr. Fair Animal Paperwork All Horse, Dog and livestock leasing paperwork is due to the Extension office by 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, If paperwork is not submitted on time you will not be eligible to show at the 2018 Highland County Jr. Fair. 7 HIGHLAND COUNTY JUNIOR FAIR PO Box 564 Hillsboro, OH Dear Poultry Meat Pen Exhibitor: Enclosed you will find the poultry order form for the #150 CM chicken, market project for 4-H. You are receiving this form because you have signed up for this project through your 4-H club or an FFA Chapter. Everyone taking this project to the fair must order their chicks through us. All chicks come from the same hatchery, so everyone starts out on equal footing. Chicks are tentatively scheduled to be picked up on Thursday, July 26, in the evening (Note the day change due to the Hatchery not doing pickups on Wednesdays). Watch for announcements regarding exact time. 9 OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION Youth Welding Workshops June 2, :00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Agricultural Engineering Building The Ohio State University 590 Woody Hayes Dr. Columbus, OH Sponsored by The Ohio State University, AWS Columbus Section, Lincoln Electric, and HETEN Engineering and Laboratory The Youth Welding Workshop provides a unique opportunity for youth ages to develop arc welding (stick or SMAW) skills or oxyacetylene welding and cutting skills. With one-on-one assistance, students begin at their own level and progress in their skills throughout the day. All participants attend a safety session and then spend the rest of the day in the welding lab. This workshop is open to any youth! This workshop provides an excellent interactive opportunity for those completing the 4-H Arcs & Sparks project. Your registration includes: Practice Pieces Welding related supplies Welding technique handouts Lunch Registration is limited to the first 20 participants for each type of welding, oxy and arc. The cost for the workshop is $ Returning in 2018! The American Welding Society (AWS) Columbus Section is sponsoring 10 participants to attend the workshop. To apply for the sponsorship, participants need to send a one-paragraph statement of why they want to attend. One line of the paragraph should simply state that financial assistance is needed. Deadline for the sponsorship is May 18, Send registration form and paragraph to address on the registration form. No payment is needed at this time. Confirmation of acceptance will be sent. Participants need to bring or wear industrialquality eye protection, long sleeve shirt, long pants (100% cotton pants such as jeans are best, NO cotton/ poly bend such as athletic pants), and high top foot protection (No open-toe shoes, sandals, etc.). Gauntlet leather welding gloves and auto-darkening welding helmets are available, if needed. Registration is due by May 18, No refunds. Please be sure to include an address on the registration form that we will use to communicate updates with you. Parents and volunteers are welcome to attend. We encourage younger participants to be accompanied by a parent or volunteer. 11 2018 Highland County Jr. Fair Changes Questions call Jana Holbrook Highland Co. Jr. Fair Coordinator Jr Fair Theme: Building Memories one Fair at a Time ***Quality Assurance MUST BE DONE BY JUNE 1!!!!! All QA must be done 45 days before the exhibition including those going to Ohio State Fair!!!! FAMILY TAGGING is back! The rules are as follows: Family Tagging does not apply to CHICKENS! Family Tagging Rule (example for barrows) Exhibitors may tag up to four barrows, weigh and show two, and sell one. Family tagging rules apply as follows: a. If one barrow has been tagged in each family member s name, one barrow may be tagged as a family barrow. b. If second barrow has been tagged in each family member s name, a second and FINAL family barrow may be tagged. c. No more than two barrows may be tagged as family barrows. d. No individual exhibitor will have access to more than four barrows (including family barrows ). e. Family tagging applies to a family unit with animals managed at the same location. (Refer to General Rule #7) f. Any interpretation or clarification will be directed to the Highland Co. Jr. Fair Coordinator. Example If the Jones family has 2 kids and they have tagged 2 family barrows each kid can only tag 2 barrows a piece in their name because they will have access to a total of 4 barrows. In All Species If you are using a tent you must have a minimum of 2 sides open at all times in all species A qualified Jr Fair Entry of the Jr. Fair Exhibitor is a Market animal that was entered and that crosses the scale (See Rule #9 under showmanship). A qualified Jr Fair Entry of the Jr Fair Exhibitor is a Breeding animal that was entered and checked in with the Adult Supt. for that specific livestock arrival time! Sales Committee All exhibitors exhibiting more than one species must declare which species they are selling through the Jr. Fair Sale by 6:00pm on the First Sunday of the Fair Unless you win Grand or Reserve prior to that sale in a different species then that champion will sell instead. GOATS There will be a Jr Fair County Bred & Born Class for Boer Market Goats on Sunday of fair at 12:30pm. Exhibitors will need to SIGN-UP at tag-in and also ENTER this class at Entry Day in order to be ELIGIBLE to participate! HOGS Market Hog exhibitors are not required to come to ENTRY DAY!! When you tag your hog in June that will be your entry! You will be given an Entry Form that day to fill out as well.
12 Dog/Horse can be taken in either 4-H or FFA but must follow State guidelines for your respective State Association and Highland Co. Jr. Fair Rules! OME If you need a reader a plan MUST be turned in every year to the Extension Office or Jana no later than Pen Assignment of the current year. Please show documentation from your school! SHOWMAN OF SHOWMEN - the exhibitor and or commodity group is responsible for providing an animal in their respective species for the contest! Leasing Animals will only be allowed in Dairy Cattle and Horses! Jr. FAIR BUILDING Remove Stalks of Tobacco and remove stripped tobacco and Add 3 stalks of Corn and a Holiday Basket Demonstration Contest There will no longer be 2 categories for the Jr Fair Demonstration Contest.
