1 Melrose Area High School 2017 Football Cheerleading Contract Standards for Cheerleaders: It shall be the purpose of the Melrose Area High School Cheer Squad to promote and uphold team spirit. To develop by example good sportsmanship, to support a good rela onship within in the community and between teams and other squads during games and events. To promote a posi ve rela onship between cheerleaders and fans. WE will work together with our team, coaches, administrators, and other athle c teams and spor ng organiza ons. As a Melrose High School Cheerleader you are expected to set a high standard for their school and set a good example for their fellow students. Please set good example in class, games, all school func ons, outside of school and especially on SOCIAL MEDIA. WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS OF Coach Hanson and any helpers. ELIGIBILITY: Keep up your grades!!!! You must keep your grade to be eligible to cheer. Remember if you are on the fail list it doesn t only look bad for you but the whole squad. When we start stun ng we will need everyone if you are in ineligible then we can t stunt. If you are having trouble in a class YOU need to get help anyway you can. It is your responsibility to stay eligible. Stay out of trouble!!! To stay eligible you must stay out of trouble this includes smoking, drinking, drugs or whatever else can get you into trouble. Remember you have signed the Minnesota State High School League rules and must also follow the local district rules to be eligible. Respect!!!! Have respect for yourself, your squad, your coach, fellow students, parents and helpers, and teachers/staff. Disrespect will NOT BE TOLERATED!!! Cheerleaders are to behave in a respec ul manner to ALL!!! WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE!!!!!!! Cheerleaders will not use any insul ng or profane language! ** If you are ineligible for any reason you can t cheer. You are required to wear black gear and sit with the coach during the en re game. You may not be able to travel to way games also. ATTENDANCE: BE ON TIME!!!! Please come to prac ce prepared!! You should be dressed and warmed up when prac ce begins. Plan to be there for the whole prac ce. Remember that leaving early or arriving late jeopardizes the squad s ability to prac ce. If for whatever reason you cannot be there you must contact me personally by phone or in person. NO TEXTS! You are not to tell another squad member that you will not be there. It is your responsibility to no fy me. If you are sick that day and not in school you may call my cell and let me know any me before prac ce or you can me by 3 rd period. Cheerleaders must be in a endance at school to be

2 eligible to par cipate in prac ce/games. If you are at school you are expected to be at prac ce that day. The first round of sec on playoffs is on a school night, it is expected that you be in school and on me the following day. GAMES: You are expected to cheer all games! Home and Away! The schedule is listed on the school website. Bring everything you need to cheer. Forge ng any part of your uniform (including poms, bow, shoes, etc.) will earn you a seat next to the coach instead of cheering. UNIFORMS: Uniforms/Warm ups will be distributed some me before the first game. Uniform and/warm ups will ONLY be worn for game days and other specified events by the coach. Cheerleaders in uniform/ warm ups or any other item of the squad or team iden fica on must always conduct themselves in a manner becoming a MHS cheerleader. Cheerleaders are responsible for the care and maintenance of their uniform/warm ups. Please take care of them and be considerate of the next cheerleader who will wear the one you just used. Uniforms should be washed in cold water on a gentle cycle. NO FABRIC SOFTENER OR DRYER SHEETS and hung or laid out flat to dry. IF UNIFORMS/WARM UPS ARE NOT RETURNED OR ARE RETURNED IN POOR CONDITION THE CHHERLEADER WILL BE CHARGED FOR APPROPRIATE REPLACEMENT COSTS. The cost of the uniform is $ and the warm ups are $95.00 Your poms are part of your uniform and will NOT be given to anyone in the crowd for use during a game. APPEARANCE: For safety reasons jewelry and watches will not be worn during games or prac ces. It is illegal according to MSHSL for cheerleading. This includes belly rings and other piercing! All hair must be neat and pulled back out of their face and off shoulders. Cheer shoes will only be worn at prac ce and games. Nails will be kept trimmed and filled to a length no longer then finger ps. There will be random checks. School color nail polish may be used. Only natural hair color. No pink, blue, red, etc. Uniforms will be worn for game days to school. If a captain or vet tells you to put something on you need to listen. Cheerleaders are expected to look their best at all mes, especially in uniform!

3 CHEERS AND DANCES: Everyone is expected to know all the dances and cheers before school starts. If you do not know them, learn them and it is your responsibility to ask for help! If you are having problems please ask a captain or veteran for some help. NO PRACTICING AT A GAME OR EVENT unless it is during hal ime. When are at a game or event and doing a cheer, you are to stand or sit properly as you will be taught. You need to watch and pay a en on to the game and cheer accordingly! NO TALKING with the crowd or anyone walking by. YOUR ARE THERE TO SUPPORT YOUR TEAM! TRANSPORTATION: We will ride in a school provided vehicle or school approved vehicle to and from games. My self and any other parent that has passed a background check, and a driving test given by the school can drive you to and from the game. WE ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO RIDE WITH! You must ride with the team to a game. However if you would like to ride with your parent, you need to make prior arrangements and I need them to sign you out before you can leave with them. You CANNOT have a signed note from you parent saying you are riding home with another parent unless it have been approved by the ac vi es director and I have wri en no ce of this. If your parent isn t the one taking you home, you need to come with me. OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS: No Gum is allowed at prac ce or games. You will turn off put away your cell phones before all prac ces and games. I will have mine in case of emergency or a parent needs to reach you. No food or NO POP are allowed at prac ces or games. Water bo les are approved and should always be brought to both. Captains are very important role to the squad. You must respect them just like a coach. You will be exercising. Cheerleading is a sport and therefore you will condi on just like you would any other sport. Be an ac ve listener and please accept construc ve cri cism. A tudes will always be posi ve and upbeat. There is no I in Team.

4 I,, as a MAHS cheerleader you will always be willing to work really hard and cooperate at both prac ce and games. Please leave your problems at the door. This your team and you need to respect everyone on it. Gossip and backstabbing are not successful means to problem solving. If you do not abide by this contract in any way the following consequences will be issued: 1 st Occurrence: sit out (in uniform) half a game. 2 nd Occurrence: sit out (in uniform) one game. 3 rd Occurrence: sit out (in uniform) one game. 4 th Occurrence: removal from the squad. NO EXCEPTIONS! We will have lots of fun and a great season!!! GO DUTCHMEN!!!!!
