2 The Morristown Theatre Guild is preparing for their Christmas production of Elf Jr. The Musical. Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toymaking abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. Elf JR. features songs by Tony Awardnominees, Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, with a book by Tony Awardwinners, Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin. The show will be performed Dec. 9, 10, 16 and 17, with two performances on the 10 th and 17 th. 2

3 TCAT MORRISTOWN OUTSTANDING STUDENT OF THE YEAR TRAVIS FRENCH French Two exceptional students vied for the title of Student of the Year for TCAT-Morristown. Travis French, a Drafting and Cad Technology student and Steven Nall who is enrolled in Collision Repair Technology. Both men made presentations to the judges on November 9. In what turned out to be a very close contest, Travis French was named our Student of the Year. I know you will join me in congratulating Travis and wish him well as he prepares to compete against regional finalists in January at TCAT- Knoxville. Travis was a state SkillsUSA winner (gold medal) at Chattanooga last April; and he and members of a Drafting and Cad team from our school, brought home a bronze medal from the National SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, Kentucky. Travis is quite active in our SkillsUSA Chapter and hopes to run for state office in the coming year. Steven Nall is a twenty-year veteran of the United States Navy where he rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer was the runner up in this competition. Steven has a variety of talents and interest including restoring old cars and training as a diesel mechanic. Both gentlemen would represent this school quite well in any competition. The ultimate winner of the statewide Student of the Year competition will receive a new car and will become the face of TCATs representing our system in a variety of venues including addressing the state legislature. TCAT Morristown is honored to have such quality individuals attending TCAT-Morristown. 3

5 Cherokee Lake Users Association Fall Clean Up with the Assistance of Carson Newman University Students Program "Operation Inasmuch Nov 5th Thank you to our sponsors TVA, German Creek Marina, Black Oak Marina, Gilmore Dock. There support allowed us to work with 50 students and their chaperones from Carson Newman University's Operation Inasmuch. Students filled 2 dumpsters plus 20+ tires n rims, couch n mattress. The islands are used as campgrounds free of charge. We ask for Leave No Trace policy be adhered to from the community using them. To assist with KEEPING OUR LAKE CLEAN, CLUA has Adopt a Barrel Program. 22 barrels are already on islands and we need community members to adopt more. GPS locations are needed on campground sites. 10 Tickets on Sale Now for The Nutcracker Ballet Studio 180 Dance, downtown Morristown's premiere dance studio, will be delighting audiences young and old this upcoming holiday season with their first annual Nutcracker Ballet. This is a full length, professional production, that is sure to awe and astonish. Directed by Ashley Oakes Cunningham and Leslie Ann Ellingburg, the Studio 180 Dancers are telling the story of Clara and her beloved Nutracker doll through exciting and exquisite dancing. Tickets are on sale now and will be available for purchase at Studio 180 starting 11/15 and will be for sale at other local businesses in the upcoming weeks. Tickets start at $10 for kids & seniors, 5 and under free, $15 for adults.
