WITH THANKS TO OUR SUPPORTERS: This survey is very important for the future development of the sport so have your say and assist with the planning process. As well as presenting certificates and trophies to the winners of all the Auckland Bowls events held throughout the year, presentations were made for a number of special awards. Administrator of the Year, a very keenly contested award, went to Grant Goodwin of Hillsboro Bowls. Grant has been an Executive member for a staggering 35 years, spends many hours on club business and was responsible for implementing the new strategic plan for Hillsboro. The rebranding of the club was also Grant s work and he initiated a complete audit and update of the constitution. He was responsible for the introduction of the very successful Trans Tasman Pairs competition and is actively involved in producing the Club Weekly Wrap.Other finalists in this category were Wendy Collins of Mangere and Peter Riddell of Mission Bay. The nominees for the Official of the Year Award were Sheryl Johnson (Pt Chevalier), Les Smith (Mangere)and Bruce Tayler (St Heliers) all umpires who have served Auckland Bowls well this season. NEW VENUE HEADLINES START OF NEW SEASON FOR PBA Invercargill s new indoor complex at the Waverley Bowling Club will be one of four venues hosting the start of the New Zealand Professional Bowls Association s new season this weekend with three qualifying events at each of the four venues featuring some of the country s top players. The southern venue becomes the first new full-sized indoor stadium to enjoy PBA competition since the addition of the Heretaunga Club in Hastings in 2003, and is the first outdoor artificial green to become fullyenclosed providing year-round protection from the fresh Southland elements. The Frankton Railway Bowling Club in Hamilton, Hastings, the Dunedin Bowls Stadium in Tainui, and Invercargill will hold qualifiers for the Shanghai Henselite Singles and Scottish International Open Singles from which the winners will be flown to the PBA Finals Weekend in Dunedin in September, and a Ranking Pairs event which assists players to earn ranking points in a bid to qualify for the 2013
4 NZ PBA team to play Australia.
