This new seasn brings a wealth f talent frm returning skaters, new skaters, and a highly-experienced caching staff. We re excited t have ver 70 skaters tryut this seasn, frming 6 teams, including a USFS Beginner 2 Team, a Pre-Juvenile Team, and fur ISI teams. Synchrnized skating can be a very rewarding experience fr bth the skaters and families, as it prvides an pprtunity t meet new peple, travel tgether, and share a cmmn lve fr the sprt. Thrugh dedicatin, team-wrk, self-discipline, and perseverance, the teams are guaranteed t have a rewarding year. ELIGIBILITY All skaters must be members f Cutting Edge Figure Skating Club. Patriettes skaters must als be members f the Ice Skating Institute (ISI). Bth f these memberships are included in yur synchr fees. If a skater is a current member in gd standing f anther registered U.S. Figure Skating club, they wuld be an Assciate member f the Cutting Edge FSC. Skaters are encuraged t take Learn t Skate Classes (LTS) at the RecPlex Ice Arena t cntinue t strengthen their skating skills thrughut the seasn. Mves in the Field, Pwer and dance classes are highly recmmended t help skaters grw and becme mre aware f their edges and strength. There are n requirements but listed belw is a guide set fr the skaters t use thrughut the seasn. These levels are nt mandatry but highly recmmended. 2 PRACTICE Practice is a critical part f a successful team skating seasn; therefre, it is very imprtant that team members attend all flr and ice practices. Synchr skaters, caches, and parents/guardians are asked t adhere t and supprt the fllwing: Attendance is required at all practices. Skaters need t reprt t their assigned area at least 10 minutes befre the scheduled practice time. While skaters are expected t attend every practice there is an understanding that smetimes an absence is unavidable. In the event yur skater must miss a practice, please: Cntact the team cach as far in advance as pssible and/r Ntify RecPlex Ice Arena Guest Services at least 30 minutes prir t practice. Please indicate the skater s name and team. RecPlex Ice Arena Guest Services can be reached at If a skater is tardy (mre than 10 minutes late) r misses the practice prir t a cmpetitin, s/he may be ineligible t participate in that cmpetitin. On ccasin, additinal practices may be necessary. The caches will make every effrt t prvide a tw week ntice, but attendance at additinal practice(s) will still be required fr all skaters. ATTENDANCE In an effrt t minimize the number f missed practices and/r cmpetitins, the fllwing attendance guidelines will be adhered t by skaters, caches, and parents: Please arrange absences in advance whenever pssible. Caches will take attendance at the beginning f each practice. IceStar skaters are allwed n mre than ten (10) absences per seasn. Patriettes are allwed t miss n mre than eight (8) practices. The absences will be cunted as fllws: Missed practice = 1 absence. Missed cmpetitin, exhibitin, = 2 absences. Tardy t practice r cmpetitin =.33 absence. Unable t attend 50% f the scheduled practice =.50 absence Missed practice prir t a cmpetitin = 1 absence may be ineligible t participate in that cmpetitin. Missed practice due t injury =.5 Missed practice due t injury r illness with a dctr s excuse = 0 On the date f the eleventh (11th) absence, the skater will becme an alternate. An alternate skater is still required t attend all practices, but may nt be allwed t skate at cmpetitins r exhibitins. If the skater s attendance imprves, s/he may be allwed t skate in cmpetitins/exhibitins. If the skater s attendance des nt imprve, s/he may be dismissed frm the team. Final determinatin will be made by the head cach and Synchrnized Skating Directr, Katie Kerley. Please refer t the Seasn Fee Schedule and Financial Agreement fr further infrmatin. 3 BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS Prgress can nly be made in a safe, cperative, and respectful envirnment. T ensure such an envirnment, all team skaters are expected t fllw the caches instructins and treat their teammates and caches with respect. If the cach has a behaviral issue with a skater(s) during practice, it will be addressed in the fllwing manner: 1st ccurrence: Cach will give a verbal warning t the skater. 2nd and 3rd ccurrences: The skater will be given a time ut n the bench. 4th ccurrence: The skater will be asked t leave the ice withut refund. The caches will discuss their cncerns with parent/guardian. 5th and subsequent ccurrences: The skater will be remved frm the practice withut refund. In additin, the Team Cach will discuss her cncerns with the Head Cach and Synchrnized Skating Directr t jintly recmmend further disciplinary actin. DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES A skater can receive written warnings fr vilatin f any sectin f this cntract. If behaviral expectatins are still nt met, the Head Cach and Synchrnized Skating Directr will cnduct a meeting with the skater, parent, cach, and team manager t explain the circumstances and discuss ptins. The skater may face the pssibility f terminatin frm the team fr repeated vilatins. The fllwing prcedure will be implemented when warning r terminating a skater frm the team. A. 1st Offense - Skater will be given a written warning t be signed by skater and parent/guardian and returned t the cach. B. 2nd Offense - Skater will receive secnd written warning during a cach/skater/parent/team manager cnference. C. 3rd Offense - Terminatin frm team. CELL PHONES Cell phnes are nt permitted during n and ff-ice practice r at cmpetitins. Skaters must leave all valuables, including their cell phne in the lcker rm t avid distractins t themselves and their teammates. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS A skater s perfrmance must be acceptable t the Team Cach fr the skater t be eligible t participate in cmpetitins/exhibitins. The fllwing prcedure will be used if the skater is nt perfrming at an acceptable level: A synchr cach will wrk with the skater during practice and then discuss her cncerns with parent/guardian. The cach will reevaluate the skater s perfrmance during subsequent practice(s). If skater needs additinal instructin, a synchr cach will discuss areas that need imprvement with the skater s private cach. If the skater des nt have a private cach, ne f the Team caches may ffer t wrk privately with the skater (Ice time and caching fees wuld apply). A synchr cach will discuss expectatins with the skater, the parent/guardian, and the skater s private cach t determine hw/if perfrmance can be imprved. Final determinatin f the skater s eligibility will be reviewed by the Head Cach and Synchrnized Skating Directr. A skater may be made a flater/alternate if standards aren t met. Flater/Alternate Skaters: a) A flater is a skater that des nt have permanent n the team. They must knw the prgram in its entirety t fill in r step int a spt when anther skater is sick, injured r nt perfrming up t the standards set by the Head Cach. 4 APPEARANCE EXPECTATIONS Fr the safety f all team skaters and t facilitate the caches ability t evaluate the skaters ftwrk, all team skaters are expected t adhere t the fllwing appearance expectatins: Wear team practice apparel and tights Tie hair back (ensure bangs are secured ff face, ut f eyes) Clip nails (Lng and/r sharp nails can injure ther skaters) Remve any jackets r glves after warm up Skaters may nt wear jewelry f any kind fr practice r cmpetitin and may nt wear clred nail plish fr cmpetitin. NOTE: Medical alert necklaces (n bracelets, if pssible) will be allwed. Please tuck int cstume. If a skater des nt meet appearance expectatins, it will be addressed in the fllwing manner: 1st ccurrence: Cach will give a verbal warning t the skater. 2nd ccurrence: The cach will discuss their cncerns with parent/guardian. 3rd and subsequent cnsecutive ccurrences: The skater will be charged $10 per ccurrence. CLASSES Pwer Edge, Mves in the Field, and Ice Dance classes are highly recmmended! COMPETITIONS The Head Cach and Synchrnized Skating Directr will determine the cmpetitin schedule based n the best interest f the entire prgram. It is very imprtant t understand that each team is part f a synchrnized skating prgram that invlves several ther teams. By indicating agreement t this cntract thrugh ur registratin prcess, yu are agreeing t participate in all cmpetitins and exhibitins fr the seasn starting in Nvember 2012 and ending May 2013 as determined by the Head Cach and Synchrnized Skating Directr. Cmpetitins can be ne f the best experiences f being a synchrnized skater. It is imprtant t adhere t the schedule set by the cach t ensure skaters are n time and ready t cmpete. In an effrt t make everyne s experience a psitive ne, skaters, parents/guardians and caches are asked t adhere t the fllwing: A. Each family will be prvided with a cmpetitin schedule listing the weekends during which the cmpetitins will run. B. Team Cmpetitin times are determined by the hsting rink 3 t 10 days befre the cmpetitin. All cmpetitin times will be annunced as sn as they are received. C. Caches will take attendance in the lcker rm r designated area ne hur prir t the scheduled cmpetitin time and reprt any absences t the Synchrnized Skating Directr. a. A $25 fee will be assessed fr each f the fllwing: i. The skater is nt present when attendance is taken ii. The skater is nt in full unifrm iii. Advance apprval f a skater being late t cmpetitin may be made at the caches discretin, but such apprval des nt waive the late fee Page 4 f 10

5 D. Full unifrm is cmprised f the fllwing: a. Assigned cmpetitin cstume and tights. b. Team hair and makeup. Alng with makeup in bag fr tuch ups. c. Makeup must be applied in accrdance with the team standards. i. Please see yur Team Cach if yur child has any allergies r ther cncerns regarding makeup. d. Team jackets and warm up pants are t be wrn t and frm all cmpetitins. E. If the skater is tardy 30 minutes r mre t cmpetitin, s/he will be ineligible t skate in that cmpetitin. Unless deemed therwise by the Head Cach. F. Laces will be taped immediately prir t the perfrmance. G. Skaters are required t wear any medals awarded at cmpetitin until departure frm the cmpetitin. H. Skaters are nt allwed t wear bracelets, necklaces, r dangling earrings (including hps) during team perfrmances. Medical alert necklaces (n bracelets, if pssible) will be allwed. Please tuck int cstume. I. Skaters are respnsible fr their cstume, headpiece, team jacket/pants and make-up. Please be sure yur apparel is labeled with yur skaters initials. J. Skaters are nt allwed t wear their team cmpetitin cstume fr individual use during the synchr skating seasn. K. All cmpetitin apparel and accessries must be maintained in gd cnditin r the skater may be asked t purchase new items. L. If a skater is unable t attend a cmpetitin, s/he will still be issued a medal fr that cmpetitin. M. Skaters are asked t attend all ther teams perfrmances in a cmpetitin. At times, this may nt be pssible due t scheduling cnflicts. Hwever, the supprt f all ur teams is crucial t team spirit and mtivatin and we ask that yu d the best yu can t make it t the arena t cheer n all synchrnized teams. N. Skaters and their families are expected t display gd sprtsmanship at ALL times t their fellw teammates and ther teams / skaters. Gd sprtsmanship is the fundatin f a psitive synchrnized skating experience, and skaters are members f a cmmunity that values teamwrk and cperatin. Skaters and families are expected t be encuraging t fellw cmpetitrs and supprtive f all wh are in attendance. O. Despite the stressful nature f cmpetitin, all skaters shuld d their best t remain cmpsed, gracius, and psitive regardless f the judges' decisins. Skaters must shw respect fr judges at all times. Learning t manage success as well as disappintment in a psitive way is a critical learning pprtunity fr team sprt participants. P. Every skater is required t have a chaperne (age 18 r lder) with them during the cmpetitin. This is fr safety reasns. Parents/chapernes shuld knw where their child is at all times, unless they are with the caches r the team manager. Q. Byfriends r friends are nt t be with a skater while at the rink, at the htel, n the bus, r during any team functin fr all cmpetitins/exhibitins. Hugging, kissing, hlding hands etc. is prhibited while in team unifrm and with the team r with anyne ther than a parent/guardian. Page 5 f 10

6 R. During the day f cmpetitin, the skaters may be asked nt t sit with their parents befre the team skates. They will need t be, as a team, fcused and alne with the caches and/r Team manager. S. It will be the caches jb t enfrce all ff-ice rules at the cmpetitin and t cmmunicate any vilatins t the head caches. Any inapprpriate behavir at a cmpetitin may result in the skater being ineligible t participate in the next cmpetitin r event. TRAVEL A. Patriettes skaters will travel t and frm cmpetitins with their parents r chapernes, unless fr sme cmpetitin, the majrity f the parents determine that cntracting a bus wuld be beneficial and affrdable. B. IceStars skaters are required t travel by bus t all Michigan cmpetitins. The cst f the bus will be equally divided between all skaters, and include ne additinal seat fr a parent r guardian. If there are nt enugh seats available fr all parent r guardian because f the cmpetitin schedule and the size f the teams, a credit will be issued t any parent r guardian that decided nt t ride the bus. Additinal family members r friends may travel with the team subject t availability. Otherwise, they will need t make their wn transprtatin arrangements. C. During Travel Cmpetitins: All team members are required t supprt ther IceStars/Patriette teams while they are cmpeting at cmpetitins designated by the Head Cach. Skaters must be in the stands cheering the cmpeting team n. This helps shw team unity and gives the skaters n the ice mre excitement and mtivatin. A skater may leave the cmpetitin with their parents r guardian early nly at the designated departure time set by the head cach. There is t be n alchlic beverages cnsumed by caches, parents r skaters while traveling n the team bus. C. Skaters are required t stay with their parent r chaperne at the htel at which the IceStars/Patriettes teams will be staying. Parents are required t reserve their wn rms by the grup reservatin cutff date. D. When traveling vernight, skaters will be required t fllw a bedtime curfew. The Head Cach will set and enfrce this curfew at each cmpetitin. If skaters d nt abide by the designated curfew, the skater runs the risk f nt being eligible t cmpete. COSTUMES AND EQUIPMENT A. Skaters are required t have their wn skates and are respnsible fr maintaining them and keeping them sharp. B. The Head Cach will decide the practice attire fr each seasn that the skaters are required t purchase. C. Skaters are required t purchase the fficial IceStars/Patriettes synchrnized skating team apparel. This apparel will be used frm year t year. Page 6 f 10

7 D. A cmpetitin dress, ne t tw pairs f cmpetitin tights, and sme makeup are all included in the team fee. Skaters shuld nly wear their cmpetitin tights at cmpetitins. If cmpetitin tights becme damaged, skaters will be required t purchase anther pair. Extra cmpetitin tights will be available fr purchase. E. The caches decide music selectin, chregraphy and cmpetitin dress with apprval frm the Head Cach and r Synchrnized Skating Directr, Katie Kerley. F. Skaters will be required t have their hair and makeup dne fr all cmpetitins. Hair and makeup will be selected by the Head Cach and the caches and verseen by the Synchrnized Skating Directr. TEAM APPAREL Team apparel csts fr the cmpetitin cstume and ne r tw pairs f cmpetitin tights are included in the ttal team payment, as utlined in the Seasn Fee Schedule and Financial Agreement. A. Warm up jackets will be purchased by the Cutting Edge FSC fr returning Patriettes r IceStars skaters. B. Returning IceStar skaters may use the previus year s warm up pants. C. Skaters must label all clthing items. D. The RecPlex Ice Arena and Patriettes lg and/r name cannt be used unless it has been apprved by RecPlex Ice Arena management. E. The Cutting Edge Figure Skating Club and IceStars lg and/r name cannt be used unless it has been apprved by Cutting Edge Figure Skating Bard. FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS AND PAYMENT PROCEDURES A. The actual skating seasn csts per team, nt including apparel r travel is utlined in the Seasn Fee Schedule & Financial Agreement. B. Registratin will be dne thrugh the Cutting Edge FSC website ( by picking Start registratin n the hme page, under Sign In, in the upper right crner. Registratins are due June 4, If nt cmpleted by June 4, a $25 late registratin fee will be charged. C. Payments fr yur depsit and RecPlex partnership membership (if yu are nt currently a member) can be made at the end f the registratin prcess. Payment can be made n-line by credit card ($5 prcessing fee will apply) r by drpping a check payable t: Village f Pleasant Prairie in the Cutting Edge drp bx after cmpleting the registratin prcess n-line. D. All paperwrk will be required t be reviewed and apprved electrnically, by indicating agreement t each thrugh the registratin prcess. Page 7 f 10

8 E. During the registratin prcess yu will indicate if yu want t make ne upfrnt payment in July; 10 mnthly payments; 6 mnthly payments r three quarterly payments. All payment ptins start in July, Each family will manage thrugh their wn secure n-line accunt, hw they wuld like t make their payments. Autmatic payments are prcessed n the 1 st f the mnth. The chices are: 1. Autmatically charge yur bank accunt. 2. Autmatically charge yur credit card (2.95% prcessing fee will apply) 3. Manually drp checks payable t the Village f Pleasant Prairie in the Cutting Edge FSC drp bx, lcated in the blue rink under the bleachers. If there is any balance n yur accunt as f the 10 th f the mnth, a $15 late fee will be charged t yur accunt. F. G. During the cmpetitin seasn, IceStars bus fees will be charged t yur accunt the mnth befre the cmpetitin, and will be expected t be paid by the 10 th f the fllwing mnth. All fees n yur accunt, including bus, yur mnthly r quarterly synchr installments and any ther fees will all be withdrawn frm yur checking/savings accunt r credit card n the 1 st f the mnth if yu are signed up fr the autmatic withdraw H. If insufficient funds ccur, a $25 NSF fee will be applied and payment is due within 5 days f ntificatin. After the 2 nd NSF, yur remaining synchrnized skating balance will be due and payable in full. Frmatted: Superscript VOLUNTEERING REQUIREMENT The Synchrnized Skating prgrams are a vlunteer rganizatin and require the participatin f each member family. We recgnize that each family has its wn time pririties and cnstraints. Many families will have the time r desire t prvide mre vlunteer time t the rganizatin than ther families; hwever, unless all families prvide a minimum level f vlunteer cmmitment, ur Synchrnized Skating prgrams simply cannt functin. Each family must vlunteer a minimum number f hurs during the seasn r pay an pt-ut fee. Any vlunteer pt-ut fees received will be added t the prfits made frm grup fundraising. The cst f the synchrnized skating prgram has been reduced by anticipated seasnal grup fundraising. Remaining fundraising revenue will be used t supprt team scial events. Vlunteer pprtunities will be cmmunicated via . Families must vlunteer a minimum f 2 hurs at the spring ice shw flwer sales in May. Families with mre than ne skater nly need t fulfill ne vlunteer respnsibility. With apprval frm the Vlunteer Crdinatr, skaters may vlunteer alngside their parents in certain cases; hwever, skaters vlunteer hurs d nt cunt tward the family vlunteer requirement. Cmmittee Chair Persn(s) FUNDRAISING The primary purpse f fundraising is t decrease the ut-f-pcket csts f participatin in the sprt, and/r t cver additinal expenses as desired by the club and its members. The number f fundraising pprtunities held during the year is determined by the parents wh crdinate and participate in them (the Fundraising Cmmittee). In the past, fundraisers have included candles, pinsettias, taffy apples, Avn, and discunt cards. Yu will be infrmed f the details as each fundraising pprtunities as they present themselves. There is n individual fundraising requirement fr the 2012/13 seasn. A. Schedules fr each fundraiser will be determined as sn as the infrmatin becmes available. B. All prceeds frm fundraisers will be credited fr a specific purpse fr the benefit f a grup f skaters, nt individual members / skaters. C. Private cntributins are welcmed and tax deductible in accrdance with the individual s present tax status and current tax laws. Cutting Edge FSC is a 501(c) 3 rganizatin. COMMITTEES The Cutting Edge FSC will wrk with the Village f Pleasant Prairie RecPlex t establish cmmittees t help with ther needs.
