The only recorded example, that raises the suggestion that Wild Duck may have been the original name of the office. Ex Hugh Freeman, Gary Watson and Rod Moreton: sold for 411. PO 11/5/1880; closed 30/3/1897. [42km NNE of Benambra: Goldmining] This is a remarkable cover. It is registered between two tiny and remote goldmining settlements in the Victorian Alps. The manuscript marking is the only recorded example. Zulu Creek is the "last" Victorian post office. It was also the site of the last gold discovery (in July 1879), for which the Colonial government paid a reward: prospectors F Ickeringall and S. Mogler were paid 25 for proving their find. WESTERN AUSTRALIA - Postal History 1, C A Lot entire letter to Ireland headed "Perth Jun 19th 1843" with an almost very fine strike of the '[crown]/ GENERAL/POST OFFICE/PERTH' handstamp & a faint strike of the ovoid Perth Shipletter h/s in red, rated "8" in black for the inward shipletter fee payable by the addressee, straight-line 'SHIP LETTER' h/s & two British d/s in red on the flap, good 'LEIGHLIN BRIDGE' arrival b/s. Remarkably fine. 2,000T 323 C A- Lot cover to "Norwood/near Adelaide/SA" with 1854 Recess "Penny Black" SG 1 x2 singles (formerly a horizontal pair, the second unit a little cut-into at top) & Litho 4d blue SG 3a (margins good to huge, with a fragment of the adjoining unit at left) tied by three unusually bold strikes of the Grid-Numeral '14' in dull red, largely very fine strike of the undated oval 'POST OFFICE/[crown]/ ALBANY/WESTERN AUSTRALIA' h/s in the same ink alongside, 'GPO/FE15/1856/SOUTH AUSTRALIA' transit cds on the face, remarkable provisional usage of South Australian Diamond Numeral '8' of Norwood on the reverse with manuscript "15/2/56" arrival endorsement. An unusually fine Mixed Issue cover. The vast majority of surviving Imperforate issue covers are to the United Kingdom. Ex McKeown, Fitzpatrick and Boulangier: sold for $4032 at our auction of 5/12/2003. BPA Certificate (2004) Carried on the second outwards mail per SS Richmond. Illustrated in the New Zealand "Handbook" Volume V where it is noted at page 305 that this is the only cover recorded with any of the "dumb" cancels. There is a suggestion that the cover may have originated at an outlying island. 3, C B Lot flapless cover from Cairo (Egypt) to Genoa with faint strike of 'POSTE VICEREALI EGIZIANE/ 31/MAG/65/CAIRO' cds in blue, Italian Victor Emanuel 10c orange x2 & 40c carmine affixed at Alexandria & tied by two strikes of the boxed 'PIROSCAFI/POSTALI/ITALIANI' h/s with good strike of the 'ALESSANDRIA D'EGITTO/8/GIU/65/POSTE ITALIANE' cds alongside, minor blemishes including inkspots on the stamps, signed by Enzo Diena. Diena Certificate (1992). Prior to the issue of the first Egyptian stamps in 1866, postage from the point of origin to the foreign post offices was paid in cash. 1,200

9 Prestige Philately - The Sixth International Rarities Auction Page: 9 HOLY LAND 345 C B Lot (May 3) usage of Indian ½a Envelope uprated with East India ½a 1a & 4a, to a British missionary in Lebanon but written as "Lebauon" which was interpreted as "Labuan", an error that set in train an epic journey, in the wrong direction! On the reverse, there are transits of 'OUTW/BOMBAY', 'GALLE/PAID' and 'SINGAPORE/PAID' (in red), an excellent strike of the rare second-type 'LABUAN/JU26/1878' and manuscript "Missent to/labuan" all in red, the last in the same hand as "Lebanon/Palestine" added to the address. Returned via Singapore (faint transit cds on the face) & placed into the French mail system to 'PORT SAID/EGYPTE' where the manuscript "Pour Beyrouth" was probably added. The absence of a Beirut datestamp at this point suggests the cover was passed to a mission body that attempted without success to find Dr Carslaw & returned the envelope to Port Said (a second b/s). Rather than return it to India, the cover was forwarded to 'JAFFA/SYRIE', Jerusalem (large-part undated 'POST FRANCAISE/[Templar Cross]/JERUSALEM' in blue), and finally 'BEYROUTH/SYRIE'. That would appear to have been the end of the road. Perhaps the elusive Dr Carslaw was finally located. One can imagine his bemusement on finding that his letter from India had taken 4½ months to reach him! The item has been opened-out for display & the "hinge" reinforced with archival tape. Ex Jeidel and Patrick Cassels. RPSofL Certificate (2004). With a typed commentary by Denis Vandervelde. One of the most extraordinary postal history items we have been privileged to offer. It would be equally at home as a key item in a collection of Holy Land, Labuan, or of French Post Offices Abroad, or Missent Mail. A sensational exhibition item of the highest order!
