The League did well, under the circumstances; to provide Rugby League for this very important age group. Wests are favourites; but Collies will fight to retain the title. The undefeated Red Devils ran out winners over Windang, after the scores were locked at 10-all at half-time. The Sharks really put on a spirited display in the first half. 8 CELEBRATE A SUCCESSFUL 2018 SEASON WITH CHANGES AHEAD! On behalf of Illawarra Rugby League Division, I extend a warm welcome to 2018 grand final day, at WIN Stadium. This is the culmination of many long hours of planning Illawarra s future by Division administrators and continued hard work by club volunteers, their coaches and players to present our season s showpiece today. Congratulations to the teams that have won a place in today s three grand finals and to the winners of last week s Shield and Women s grand finals. In addition we acknowledge all teams that participated in the various 2018 competitions. Western Suburbs started the season in fine fashion by taking out the VB Challenge Cup; and has gone on to win the First Grade minor premiership and the Print Media Club Championship IAN NEIL as well as reaching today s grand final against Thirroul. The Illawarra-South Coast Dragons CRL Championship Under 23 s team again lost to Monaro in a semi-final, after a very impressive first round win over Western Division. Coach Wade Forrester has worked hard to produce results under this new CRL format. Various competitions again received valuable support from our major sponsors THE HARDWARE MAN (seniors); BENDIGO BANK (juniors) and INSPIRATION PAINTS (women s). In addition, we also receive great assistance from Cleary Bros. (sponsor of the Referees Association), Print Media and Carlton & United Breweries. The weekly Bar TV productions receive sponsorship from UOW College, Aussie Skips and Hello Harry. Whenever possible, please support all businesses that assist Rugby League in Illawarra - listed on page 6 of today's League News. Of course, the major financial contributor to the Illawarra Rugby League is the Steelers Club providing office accommodation and administration staff. We are very fortunate to have dedicated employees in Divisional Manager, Chris Bannerman; and our new Junior League Administrator, Luke Potter both well supported by Stacey Drury. The elected members of our Board of Management have been called on to give even more time to various projects during 2018 thank you. The Club Sustainability Program comes into operation for 2019 all clubs contributed and will be expected to continue to give full support. The announcement of a signed MOU to proceed with the merger of Country Rugby League and NSW Rugby League will be welcomed by all in Rugby League and Illawarra will be monitoring the progress. Enjoy grand final day, Congratulations in advance to all premiers. IAN NEIL, Chairman, Illawarra Rugby League Division.
