This program focuses primarily on the players technical skill development through increased touches and repetitions.. The main goal is to give players the opportunity to develop their skills and gain comfort and confidence on the ball. The program is inclusive; recreation, premier and travel players are encouraged to sign up. Players will be grouped based on skills and age.. The Rush School Of Excellence Is soccer in a classroom setting. Classroom sessions are common and often essential to programs offered at professional soccer clubs across Europe. Players like David Beckham, Lionel Messi (Barcelona) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) began their careers as soccer crazed kids. As a direct result of the consistent training and learning in a classroom environment, these players are now regarded as the world s elite. The program will introduce them to the systems, tactics, psychology and much more and their relationship to competition. These sessions help improve their creativity and tactical skills, expand their awareness about the game in different cultures, and set new standards and goals. Additional topics in the School of Excellence consist of Rush Core Values, Principles of Play, The Rush Way and more!. Parents are also welcome to attend. Goalkeeper Training Goalkeepers play a critical part in the game of soccer. GKs need specialized training both within and outside of the team s training sessions. 13 Provide a safe and competitive environment for the players. Respect players, officials & parents. Provide player evaluations. Communicate your individual Coaching Philosophy. Grievance Procedure If a player or parent has an issue with something that happens at practice or a game, an attempt should be made to resolve it with the coach involved. To ensure that the issue is dealt with professionally please allow 24 hours before making contact. This will allow all parties concerned to reflect on the issue more clearly and not let emotion get in the way. If the issue is administrative, the team manager must be informed. If further assistance is needed to resolve the issue this matter should be passed onto the Director of Coaching or Technical Director for further resolution. The resolution will be in the best interest of the child and the program, following the principles and guidelines of CT Rush. The best way to talk to your child s coach about concern is after a cooling off period, typically 24 hours, and in private. Be responsive to your team managers and the club when requested to provide information. Do not discuss the play of specific players in front of other parents. E.g He/she is not playing well Refrain from complaining about your child s coach to other parents. Practices Practice plays a huge part in player development. Players who wish to be successful need to attend all practices and train on their own time. Repetition is an important part of skill development. In order to master a skill, players need to rehearse it over and over to make the execution consistent. 12

It is expected that players attend ALL practices on time. If your child cannot attend a practice, please make every effort to contact the coach or manager as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that we are a competitive club and absences have a direct effect on playing time. Game Day On game day, players are expected to be at the field 45 minutes prior to kickoff. This time before the game is used for warm ups and game preparation. Generally, the home team changes jerseys if there is a color conflict. Players should always bring both jerseys to every game. Inclement Weather Teams practice and play in inclement weather with few exceptions. If a practice or game is canceled due to weather or field closure, the club will make every effort to give as much advance notice as possible. The most efficient method of communicating cancellations is by s or website updates. If a practice is canceled we will either try to reschedule the practice at a later date or hold a School of Excellence classroom session. Attendance Policy We will try to schedule practices and games to avoid as many conflicts as possible, however, this is not always possible. Players are required to attend their respective practices and games. Excused absences for missed sessions/games will include: Family emergencies, player medical illnesses or injury, or accidents. School functions. (May require a note.) Religious events. In the event that a player does not have a valid excuse to miss a practice/game (in one week cycle) or failed to notify the coach/team manager with sufficient time, the following outcomes will occur: Miss 1 practice Do not start the next game Miss 2 practices ½ game suspension o Miss 3 practices 1 game suspension o Miss 1 game ½ game suspension o Miss 2 games 1 game suspension 13

**If a player consistently misses sessions, coaches can consider removing them from the roster** **The above is for full roster players aged between U12 U18 and this is based on the coach's discretion. For the developmental ages U10 U11, players are expected to attend a minimum ONE practice per week. ** Playing Time Connecticut Rush has a minimum playing time policy. Every child who regularly attends practice should play at least an average of 25% of the game time (some games could be more, some games could be a bit less). This is a minimum, and we encourage our coaches to strive for closer to 50% playing time. At the developmental age groups (U8 U11), players who regularly attend practice should be playing on average 50% of the game. For example, the club recommends that weaker players receive significantly greater playing time in one sided games so that cumulative playing time will be more even over the course of the season. At U12 U18, playing time is earned by performances at practices and games. If players receive minimal playing time, we encourage the players to speak to the coaches to find out what they can do in order to gain more playing time. Within these guidelines, coaches will be free to manage an individual player's time in accordance with the player's attendance at practice, skill and the status of the game. Within our club, compliance with these guidelines is essential to support player development and maintain a sufficient number of children in the program to continue to field teams at the older age levels. 17 CT Rush Philosophy Rush believes that the game is the best teacher, is a creed to live by. 90% of our work is done on the practice field. This is where all of the players are challenged, placed under pressure and are given a vast amount of important information to be successful in games. We do not believe in standing on the sidelines screaming at our players, instead we encourage problem solving but we do have moments where we provide our players with necessary information. The Rush Way to Play The Rush Way to Play is based upon movement and activity by both player and ball. Possession oriented does not fully describe how we play; attack oriented does. Whether in possession or in defense, we are attacking. Rush players play with freedom yet understand the importance of responsibility and the balance between the two. Rush teams are flexible and adapt to various circumstances. The Rush Way to Play represents both passion and purpose. Coach Education This is a fundamental part of success. We believe that the education of our players comes first from the education of the coaches. The commitment from Rush to educate our coaches and employees is of the highest priority. Coaches are a huge part of player development and need to constantly learn to find effective ways of teaching the game in order to promote player growth and success at all levels. Our staff holds coaches educational sessions, which includes meetings, coaches clinics, session plans, coaches evaluations, feedback & coaching licensing. 16

Player Development We are constantly looking for different ways to develop our players and place them in environments where they can mature into talented soccer player and improve their soccer knowledge. It is important for all of our players to be confident and comfortable whenever they step foot onto the soccer field. We work tirelessly to ensure that our players are placed in a fun but competitive environment where they are not afraid of making mistakes. We encourage our players to be creative without the fear of failure in addition to being comfortable on the ball. We acknowledge every player as an individual and take into consideration that different players have different learning styles therefore our coaches approach to the players may vary in order to maximize each player's potential. Whether the player needs a more direct coaching approach where they are constantly placed under pressure and challenged or they need to be taken aside and set personal goals to build their confidence, we look to provide that style to aid their growth. Greeting The Rush staff across the country expect their players to shake their coaches hand each time they meet. We even expect the player to give each other hi fives at the beginning and end of each practice! Why?..respect, build social skills, break down barriers, learn culturally accepted behavior. 17

Beyond Practices For players that are striving to play at the next level, it is important that they make an investment in their own development beyond the formal practice time for their team. Players are encouraged to watch soccer games live, on TV or highlights. For every CT Rush practice, we also encourage players to practice for a minimum of one hour in their own time. Please contact your team coach if you wish to discuss ideas for skill improvement. Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence. 18
