2 Meeting July 2016 Mildura Workingman s Club International Toast This week our International Toast is to the Rotary Club of Kelowna. The club meets every Tuesday at Lunch time. 3 Members Reports Jason Gowers. Jason introduced Collette Prost, Rotary Exchange student. Please make yourself known to Collette and help her fit in to the club. Collette will be with us for the next 12 months. Collette has no classes this Friday, so if anyone has some time to spare now is your chance to get to know Collette for a whole day. Max Robinson Bob Shurey will be back in Mildura tonight after suffering what was believed to be an heart attack. After being flown to Melbourne for an angiogram. The end result is all that is needed is a change in medication. Good News. John Vann is still having a battle. He is slowly getting better. It is 5 weeks since his last surgery. If anyone has the time, he would appreciate a phone call. Craig Beruldsen Craig floated the idea of having a Camp - Out on the weekend of the Melbourne Cup. for some it could be a LLOONNGG weekend, whilst for others, just a normal weekend. Bring your own Tents, Swags, Camper Vans & Caravans etc. Numbers will be finalised in the coming weeks. Dr. John Harrison. John reported that someone has dug a trench to lay pipes across the road at the Avenue of Trees, only to have cut the irrigation lines that we had previously installed. Two volunteers are needed to help repair the damage Sunday 7th August. No doubt the famous Anzac biscuits will be available for Smoko. April Castleman. April has asked all members that when paying their subs using EFT for payment, to please include their name somewhere in the identification of the transfer. That means that April will then credit the correct member for their payment. Bill Sutherland - Footy Tipping. Bill gave a brief rundown of the milestones that are occuring in the AFL this week. Boomer Harvey will break the all-time world record for number of games played, 427. Jimmy Bartell plays his 300th game. And Corey Enright becomes the games record holder at the Cats. The results of this weeks competition are summarised later in the Bulletin. Michael Jobe. The Sunraysia Community Health Service is, once again, conducting their Community Walking Challenge. The goal is for participants to complete a minimum of 10,000 steps per day for 30 days from 1st August to 3rd September. Please add your name to the list going around if you are able to participate. 3

4 Rotary Spot Lynn Dixon Lynn shared with the meeting her Rotary journey. From Rotaract in Box Hill to Daylesford onto Mildura Deakin where she served a term as President, and at last count to the Irymple Rotary Club. Lynn reminisced about some of the fun times and the good people she has met through her involvement with Rotary. She recalled how everybody enjoyed the entertainment provided at one of the local changeover dinners. Belly Dancers. Lynns main message tonight was about Rotary Publications. In particular, Rotary Downunder Magazine. The message from Lynn was this. If you don t read the magazine, how are you supposed to know what is in there and what is going on in Rotary in Australia. if you fell the urge, you can even write a letter to the Editor. There are many interesting articles on Life and Leisure. Enjoy the magazine, but above all, read it Sergeant-at-Arms Wendy Simpson Sergeant Wendy and her fines. Wayne Hodges entered his date of birth as ? I don t think so! There was a Welcome Back Tax for various members who have been away on holidays. The Bulletin Editor copped it for not having an i before e except after c. Jennifer Gadsden was fined for coming to Rotary meetings especially when she has won the weekly footy tipping prize. Gary & April Castleman for becoming grandparents. 4

5 President s Report Jason Gowers Club Assembly President Jason outlined a strategy for the teams. There are many exciting ideas that have been mooted to the club. We need to arrive at strategies for the fulfilling of the projects. These strategies, in turn, can then be taken to the Board for approval and action. Some ideas for example: What do we need more of? Do we need to broaden our Vocations? Do we need to look at a younger age group? Do we need more women members? What do we want to achieve? What do we need to achieve it? How are we going to achieve it? The meeting then broke up into smaller teams for discussions. Vince and the Team. 5
