1 PASSION PRIDE PERFORMANCE WAIMAK United Football Club SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 14th April

2 Comments from the club The History of Football in North Canterbury Football made its first appearance in Rangiora at the annual New Years Day sports in During the remainder of that decade, and into the early 1870's, soccer grew as a casual social pastime fuelled by increasing immigration from England. While soccer has been played, on and off, in Kaiapoi for over 100 years, historical records from the early years are patchy. Soccer continued to be played casually over subsequent years. In March 1965, the Rangiora Association Football Club was officially formed after playing a year of friendlies in The founding members were Mr Alan Fraser OBE (awarded for his services to Soccer Administration), Mr and Mrs Barry Jones, Mr Les Farr (inaugural Club Patron) and Mr Jock and Mrs Helen Carr. Jock was the club's first President. A chance conversation in the Woodend pub between Robin Taylor, who had played for Christchurch United in the National League, and Ray Kettley resulted in further conversations with the then Councillor, and future Mayor of Kaiapoi, Hec McAllister about forming a soccer club in Kaiapoi. McAllister called a meeting of interested people at the Kaiapoi Council Chambers in early Cyril Sweeny was elected as the first president. The Waimakariri United Football Club was formed in December 2008 following an agreement to merge between the Rangiora Football Club, Kaiapoi Town Association Football Club, and North Canterbury United. The merger came after 6 years of successful football development under the United franchise brand, and a desire to extend this development. In 2015, our major milestone has been achieving entry into the 2016 Women's Premier League by proving we have a strong pathway and good development programs for junior girls. We continue to work on our boys development and retention of players is an important step towards a complete male pathway. About our Home grounds Thirty acres of land on the Ashley River bank was donated to the Borough by Mr Samuel Andrews in The park was named Maria Andrews Park in memory of his wife. In 1977 part of the park was developed into a football ground. Kendall Park is a competition sports ground. Miss V N Kendall donated 4.2 hectares to the Ohoka and Eyreton Reserves Board in the early 1980s as a public park. The Council added a further 8.9 hectares between and added an artificial turf in First Kicks, Fun Football and Mini Football are all held at Maria Andrews and Mainland games, and Premier games are at Kendall Park. 3 WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB WOMEN S PREMIER LEAGUE VS Universities AFC 12.30PM Kick off- Kendall Park Coaches Comments We come into this weekends fixture against Universities on the back of our first win of the season against Halswell United. We last met Universities in a friendly match back in February, where they ran out dominant winners in that match. The girls created plenty of chances last weekend and in patches we looked very good, however that performance was not show cased for the full 90 minutes. A key for us this week is to focus on maintaining our performance for the full match, to retain possession for longer spells of the game and to make better decisions on and off the ball. Intelligence on and off the ball is key for a strong performance for us. The girls set a high bar for themselves and I know they will work hard during the game to perform to their own high standards. With the holidays coming up brings international camps, and we see 4 of our girls and Goal Keeping Coach, Duncan Reed (U20 s Ferns Camp), attending various camps over the 2 weeks. Well done to Gabi Rennie, Macey Fraser and Jayda Stewart for their selection in the U17 s Ferns Camp and to Thais Munoz for her selection in the U15 s Ferns Camp. Opportunities don t happen. You create them Chris Grosser Regards, Shane Verma - WPL Coach SHANE VERMA WPL Squad Coach Waimak United Women s CWC vs FC Twenty 11 PDL 9.15am at Kendall Park Turf
