2 COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB Alan Fraser Memorial Girls Tournament 10 th Grade Most Valuable Player: Sophia Tweedale 12 th Grade Most Valuable Player: Ciara O Connor (Waimak Red), and Laura Newman (Waimak Black). 14 th Grade Most Valuable Player: Charlotte Roche 12 th Grade Silver Boot: Laura Newman (Waimak Black) 12 th Grade Bronze Boot: Ciara O Connor (Waimak Red) 14 th grade Golden Boot: Charlotte Roche 12 th Grade 2 nd Place: Waimak Utd (Black) 14 th Grade 2 nd Place: Waimak Utd Well done to our Waimak teams who competed in our Alan Fraser Memorial Girls Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. It was a great weekend of football, and they played extremely well. Thank you to all the teams who travelled to our tournament from all over the South Island. We were thrilled to host your teams and we hope to see you next year. We wished to thank all the volunteers over the two days; coaches, managers, referees, BBQ and tuck shop helpers, board members and parents. Without our volunteers we wouldn t of had a tournament. Waimak United Football wish to say a big thank you to Hamish and his team at CBK Kaiapoi for hosting our Fundraising Dinner Thursday night. It was a fantastic evening with great food and company. Thank you to all those who could make it along. It was finished with Hamish handing over a cheque for $500 to the club from monies raised at our Quiz night and from the loyalty card program.
3 Coaches Comments WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB WOMEN S PREMIER LEAGUE VS UNIVERSITIES 12.30PM KICK OFF- KENDALL PARK Today we welcome Universities in our third competitive encounter with them this season. This will be a real test for both sides after an entertaining 2-0 win to Waimak last time, in which the points could have gone to either side in a real game of two halves. Khalil has done a great job with Universities over the past two seasons, establishing them as a team that can beat anyone on their day, as they have shown in recent weeks with a point against Coastal and a win against Cashmere Technical. With the league effectively over, the girls will be playing for a number of team reasons this week. We had set a goal at the start of the season to finish in the top 2, meaning a result against Universities keeps the goal achievable before our game against Cashmere Technical in the final round. Congratulations must go out to Gabi Rennie, Waimak squad captain for the 2018 season, for her inclusion in the travelling squad for the Women's u20 World Cup in France that begins in two weeks. This is a credit to her passion, leadership and performances in 2018 and the hard work and support that has got her here. Go get 'em Gabi! She will play her last game for the side today, as will Kayla Thomas, who is off to America to study and play for Radford University in Virginia. Kayla had to wait over a year for her first WPL appearance for Waimak, after tearing her ACL in a preseason friendly against Universities in Kayla has played at both ends of the pitch this year, switching her goal scoring prowess for a role in our defensive unit to create a solid back three in the latter stages of the season. All the best Kayla and hope to see you back in the near future! Shane has also accepted a role with Northern as an assistant coach for the upcoming NWL after 3 years with Canterbury United, winning the league in I wish him all the best with his season in Auckland and look forward to smashing you when you come down to play the Pride! The final note is from myself before I head off to France with the NZ u20s, as it will be my last game for Waimak WPL. It has been a pleasure coaching such a great bunch of young women and to have seen them develop into both talented footballers and great role models for the game, not just at Waimak but in Canterbury. Coming from double digit losses two years ago, to winning ACFC u17 National Tournament, being in a position to push for the league up to the final weeks and for silverware in 2018 is a testament to the efforts on and off the pitch that the players, parents, friends and families of Waimak have put in to make the club a success in Big thank you goes out to the parents for your support and backing, even in the toughest of times; Mike and Rachele for your efforts into making my role as smooth as possible; Shane giving me the opportunity to assist you and learn from one of the best coaches in the region; and last but not least, the players. We don't get to do what we love doing without your hard work and determination and the environment you have created has been a pleasure to be a part of! All the best today and for the rest of the season. Although we might not get Shane a tattoo just yet, lets finish the season on a high: "Up the Mak" - Duncan Reed Duncan Reed WPL Assistant Coach DUNCAN REED WPL Coach

7 WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB MEN S CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE VS HALSWELL UNITED 2.30PM KICK OFF HALSWELL DOMAIN Coaches Comments This week's game sees the team heading to Halswell Domain to play top of the table Halswell United. In our last outing against the Hawkes we produced a fantastic 2-0 victory and the team will be looking to take home the 3 points again against a strong side. We are coming off the back of a 2-0 loss in a very close encounter against Christchurch United, where the result could of easily gone either way. We are targeting to finish the season strong and with 3 wins out of the last 4, this will help us finish as high up the table as possible. Head down to Halswell Domain to cheer on the team, in what will be a great game of football.
