th & 8 th Grade Football Player Packet
Mission Statement At the Middle School level here in North Olmsted, our goal is to develop players into the best versions of themselves both on and off the field. It is expected of all players in our program to uphold the core values at all times. These values are spelled out in our motto PERSIST : Pride, Effort, Respect, Selflessness, Influence, Sacrifice, and Team. This season we aim to create an atmosphere around our program that is equal parts enjoyable and focused. Welcome to the 2018 season! Core Values -Coach Taylor Do not get involved with or do anything that would ever embarrass the players or coaches of this football program. This includes non-school hours. Everything you do reflects on our school and our program. Any violation of this rule can result in suspension or removal from the team. Loyalty You are expected to be loyal to your teammates and coaches. Pride You are held to a different and higher standard because you play football. The expectations and standards are much higher. Character Be strong mentally. Class Show it in everything you do on and off the field. Respect and Discipline Believe that all decisions made by your coaches are for the good of the team. Positive Attitude Constantly compliment your teammates, it wears off on all of us. Sacrifice The team will always come before the individual. Do not allow yourself to be selfish. It s about We, Us, Together not I, Me, Mine. Effort Regardless of your ability, you can always give 100% to this team. This is the one constant upon which the program is based. Effort is one area in which no slack can be given. This is one demand which will not be compromised by fellow players or our coaches. Every player is important; However, the team will always come first. From our scout team player to a starter, the rules are the same. 2
General Guidelines and Expectations Classroom Conduct yourself as a gentleman and show respect to your teachers. Do not get into trouble either by misbehavior or attendance. Coaches will not bail you out of classroom trouble. Any problems in the classroom will be dealt with on an individual basis. Eligibility Academics will always be #1. Stay eligible. If you need help we will get it for you. You will be held accountable with grade checks via the orange sheets every week. Equipment Each of you will be responsible for all equipment checked out to you. You must pay for all lost or damaged gear. Injuries All injuries must be reported to Coach Taylor or Coach McWoodson personally. If it is serious enough you will be expected to see your family physician or a sports medicine physician. Practice Be on time and early. Absences from practice and/or games must be excused by the coaching staff. If you are injured and cannot practice you are still expected to come to practice and go with your position coach to learn and listen. If you are going to miss a day for any reason, please contact Coach Taylor or Coach McWoodson prior to the absence. Personal Conduct/School Policies Athletes will need to follow all school rules and policies outlined in the student handbook. No one person is above the team. Fighting, trash talking, mouthing off, or showing disrespect to any adults, teammates, opponents, or coaches will not be tolerated. Team Travel It is important to understand that when we travel as a team we are representing all of NOMS. We will always conduct ourselves in a way that reflects well on NOMS and our community. We will always be respectful to those we come in contact with. 3
Discipline Guidelines The rule of our program is that each player follows the core values and expectations outlined above. Any person who violates these expectations, and our team s mission, for any reason, will deal with appropriate discipline. Examples of violations: Missing a practice or game Being late for football events Not having forms, equipment, etc. when needed Any inappropriate conduct, language, or behavior Not being coachable or accountable Classroom or off-field misbehavior Examples of discipline: Extra individual conditioning Extra team conditioning Loss of playing time, move on depth chart Suspension from team Removal from team ***Discipline is subject to the coaching staff s experience and knowledge of the situation and will be done in the best interest of the player and the team. 4
Uniform Guidelines To be a team we must all play the part and look the part. All players must wear the complete uniform outlined below for practices and games. Failure to abide by the uniform code will result in extra conditioning. 8 th Grade Rules Practice Main Game Alternate Game Helmet Black Jersey Black Mesh Orange Black Pants Black or White Black Black Socks Any Black Black Undershirt Any Orange, Black, or White Black Cleats Orange, Black, or White 7 th Grade Rules Practice Main Game Helmet Black Jersey White Mesh Orange Pants Black or White Black Socks Any Black Undershirt Any Orange, Black, or White Cleats Orange, Black, or White 5
