1 P.1 of 5 What s Coming Up Festival on the Field 3pm 9pm TICKETS SELLING FAST Music Concert 5-6pm Junior Hall NEXT WEEKS ASSEMBLY JABBERWOCKY CLASS Festival on the Field It s not too late to get your tickets for the Festival on the Field tomorrow. Please come and support this event in memory of Mrs Staiano and raising money for the music suite. There will be festival face painting, a toddler zone, some craft activities and a dance display by Mayhem Theatre Company as well as the main attraction a live performance by Souled Out! Please note, due to the terms and conditions of the events licence, you are not able to bring your own food and drink to the event. See you there! New Families Evening It was a pleasure to welcome families of children starting with us in September to the school on Monday evening. They sampled school dinners, met governors and other members of our school community and managed to get home in time for England s triumphal start to their world cup campaign! Building Works As I'm sure you have all seen, the modular units were craned in this week; Brick work starts next week. We are really excited to see the building taking shape watch this space for next week s developments. 2 P2 of 5 Rugby Tournament On Thursday 14 th June, St Catherine s took a squad of eleven players to John Warner for a rugby tournament. This was organised by Roseland s School under the supervision of Saracens Rugby Club. The aim of the tournament was to encourage children to play rugby; therefore the rules are simple and all children are given the chance to play in a low pressure environment. St Catherine s played six games and, even though the scores were not recorded, they achieved some promising results. They drew 3 games, won two and lost the last by a narrow margin. They recorded a total of twenty nine tries over the six games but, just as importantly, they defended brilliantly. The Saracens representative even commented on how well our team handled the ball and played the game. A hearty congratulations to the following children who all played excellently as a team. Archie R, Lily D, Lucy G, Ruth P, Arran J, Daniel K Charlie B Charlie L, Wyatt E, Billy-Ray C and Brodie C. To the year six children; I hope you continue to play in senior school and to the year fives, I hope to see you next year for many more fixtures.

3 P.3 of 5 The Friends of Barclay Park Meeting The Friends of Barclay Park are putting on a talk by Tina Rowland who, as a volunteer researcher for the Herts Gardens Trust, has carried out a project on the history of the grounds of High Leigh and Barclay Park. It will be on Tuesday 3 July at 7pm at St Catherine's School in Hoddesdon. Admission is by donation to the Friends. 4 P4 of 5 Fun Food Extra - Homemade Lemonade The thing with homemade lemonade is that there are loads of recipes with different methods to make the same drink. Also, some people like homemade lemonade with a strong zingy citrus taste but others prefer a more delicate drink. Here is a recipe which is simple to make but can be adapted to suit all tastes. Remember it is better to start off with a stronger drink which you can further dilute rather than a weak and wishy- washy liquid with not much flavour. This is especially true if you are going to add ice! The right ratio of lemon juice, water and sugar is essential for a refreshing drink. Taste testing is necessary to get it just right. You Will Need 1 cup of caster sugar (granulated will also be fine) 6 lemons 5 cups of water Sliced lemon to decorate Ice if desired Method First put the cup of sugar into a small saucepan and add one cup of water. Bring to the boil and watch as the sugar completely dissolves and the liquid becomes a syrup. Get an adult to help you with this! Allow the syrup to completely cool and then pop in the refrigerator until needed. Juice all the lemons removing all the pips and pithy bits. In a large jug, stir together the cool syrup with the lemon juice. Using the same size cup add four cups of water. Check you are happy with the strength of your drink.
