If you missed it this year, please try to make it next year. This month s meeting will feature Captain Al Ristori. This will be the last guest speaker. Any suggestions for future guests should be given to the Entertainment Committee. Well, here it is a new season. Reports of stripers and other species are already coming in! Maybe another great year is on the way. Hope everyone has their rods, reels, tackle and equipment ready to go. Remember, our club members receive a 10% discount at Betty & Nick s and at many other tackle shops, don t forget to show your card. LET S FISH!! MICHAEL TUTELA Reminder Thursday, May 5 at 7:30pm The next meeting of the Berkeley Striper Club will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 7:30pm at the Seaside Park Borough Hall. We will have guest speaker, Captain Al Ristori, to present information on striped bass fishing from a boat, as well as, tactics and techniques used to catch some of the big bass we ve seen in the past three seasons in June during the bunker run. He will also touch on fishing the Raritan Bay/Sandy Hook area. June 4 th Our June meeting will be a "How To" session where we will tie teasers, rig rubber eels, and knot tying. Don t miss it! Montauk Trip September Berkeley Striper Club s 11 th Annual Montauk Trip is scheduled for Sunday, September 25 and Monday, September 26, Overnight accommodations are reserved at the Sands Motel, S. Emery Street, Montauk, NY - (631) Please sign up with Bob Eaglesham - (732) The estimated cost is $50 per member ($72 per Guest) with the final cost adjustment made at the Motel. Note, all members who attended the Montauk trip last October are due a $15 credit. If you are going again this year, you can apply this overpayment, therefore you owe $35. Also, the hotel is available to us through Wednesday, September 28 th. They do not have vacancies on the 29 th & 30 th. The Montauk trip is a great club experience and one that you should not miss! Sign-up and payment are due to Bob by the September meeting.
2 Fishing Clinic - Learn To Fish the Pt. Pleasant Canal May 7 th at 9:00am If you are interested in learning the tactics of fishing the Point Pleasant Canal, Eric Peterson will be offering a fishing clinic on Saturday, May 7. Just meet him at 9:00am at the OB Diner parking lot on Rt. 88 in Point Pleasant. If you have any questions, please contact Eric via , petcustrod@optonline.net Spring Striped Bass Boat Trip Friday, June 3 rd from 6:00pm-12:00am Join us on Friday, June 3 for our Spring Boat Trip on the Big Mohawk out of Belmar Marina with Captain Chris Hueth. Be at the marina no later than 5:30pm. Boat leaves at 6:00 sharp. The cost is $20 per member. Price includes eels, subs, soda & water. Bring plenty of 3-way swivel drift/eel rigs and 3oz.-6oz. bank sinkers. If you do not have a boat rod, one can be rented on the Mohawk. Sign up at the May meeting with Eric Peterson. Club Picnic July 24 th Our annual Club Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, July 24 at Berkeley Island Park, Bayville, NJ. The picnic is FREE to all club members and their families. Guests are welcome for a fee of $5 each. The picnic is a fun day with family & friends, great food, games for adults and kids, prizes and more. A rod/reel and 13 Magnavox TV-DVD Combo raffle will take place to benefit the Berkeley Striper Club Education Fund. Fall Beach Bash September 18th Save the date for our 1 st Annual Beach Bash, Sunday, September 18, on the beach at Seaside Heights, Herring Avenue. Free for all club members and their families. Guests are invited for a $5 fee. We are planning for a fun event---bonfire, BBQ, kids fishing tournament and more. More details to follow. Annual Awards Banquet Recap by Frank Zappella It was nice to see new faces at the Annual Awards Dinner Saturday night. From a consensus, it was a good time, great food from La Zuzzio's and a lot of merriment to be had. Loads of Auction items, a big 50/50 won by Bob Vorgetts. A DVD/CD player and Home Theater System won by me Frank Z. Yes, I have the title as "LUCKY" again. The Fishing Activities raffle (a beautiful framed Bass photo) went to my better half Christine. Christine and I would like to thank all who helped this year, planning and set-up Mike and Denise Tutela. Set-up Brad and Faith, Ray and Penny Nebus. Fred and Sara for running the 50/50. The HOOK for running for me and collecting donations. Angelo Vassallo for running the DVD raffle. All the people that helped obtain items for the Auction. In addition, Marc Boucher for selflessly working the door all night selling admission tickets and auction cards to our attendees. To everyone who helped and attended a big THANK YOU BSC Fall Fishing Derby Button Sale Derby Buttons for the 2005 Fall Tournament are on sale! The tournament dates are September 1 through December 31, This tournament is open to the public for a $10 entry fee. Buttons are available for purchase at all club meetings and Betty & Nick s. Do you have a neighbor, friend or co-worker who likes to fish? Ask them to buy a button. They look great on your hat and you have a chance to win some great prizes! He will have the new tagging needles for the meeting. Anyone who turned in tagging results for last year, who did not get a printout of their results, please let Fred know. He will have at least one more tag return to report on at the meeting.
3 Berkeley Striper Club Education Fund The Berkeley Striper Club Education Fund will replace the existing Berkeley Striper Club Scholarship Fund. The fund will accept donations as in the past and continue to run raffles to generate funds. As the fund grows we (The Berkeley Striper Club) will distribute them to the person or organization as voted upon. The requests will be brought to the committee for review. The purpose of the fund is to donate funds to further educate individuals or organizations who are involved in the same goals as the Berkeley Striper Club. Please contact Gary Gerenza if you have any fund-raising ideas or would like to help on the committee. Membership Corner The Berkeley Striper Club consists of approximately 170 members. The Membership Committee is doing a great job recruiting new members and will continue to utilize various opportunities to promote the club. 4 Early Registration Application Berkeley Striper Club Spring Fishing Tournament to Benefit Stripers Forever 6/3/05 6/12/05 I understand that in conjunction with engaging in the tournament, I could experience certain hazards and be involved in certain risks. I further recognize that it would be impractical as well as well as unfair for the Berkeley Striper Club, its officers, directors, and committee members and/or any and all persons or boat owners and their crew directly or indirectly involved in or connected with the Tournament to be liable or responsible in any way for my safety. I hereby release, hold harmless and forever discharge the Tournament and its officers, directors and committee members, the boat owners and their crews from any liability and/or libel, loss, damage harm, injury or death suffered by me which may occur during the Tournament. I understand this includes any claims based upon any negligent act or omission. I understand that I enter the Tournament at my own risk and hereby assume all risks, which may be involved in participating in the Tournament, particularly hazards due to weather conditions, and I fully understand that anytime during my participation, I may elect not to participate when I think the weather or any hazards are too great. Berkeley Striper Club Spring Fishing Tournament to Benefit Stripers Forever Rules and Regulations 1. There will be NO CAPTAINS MEETING. Entrants are responsible for reading and adhering to the following rules. If there are any questions at all contact our Tournament Chairman, Paul Haertel at (973) or Christopher LaGrossa at (732) or ask on (message board-general-club info.) 2. Registration may be made by mail, through a BSC Tournament Committee member or at one of the listed registration stations. 3. Entrance fee must be received or postmarked no later than 9:00PM on 6/3/05. The tournament begins at 9:00PM on Friday, 6/3/05 and ends at 2:00PM on Sunday, 6/12/ Boundaries include all Ocean and Monmouth County waters open to the public. 5. For the boat division, all fish must be caught from a boat 6. For the surf/shore division, the fish must be caught from the shore which includes any beach, jetty, pier, bridge, wall, or shoreline of any ocean, bay, inlet, canal or river within Ocean and Monmouth Counties, provided it is legal to fish there. 7. Each entrant may only win one prize per species per division. 8. Fish entered must be caught on rod and reel and within compliance of the law. Fish must be of legal size to be eligible except that striped bass must be at least 34. No slot fish. 9. From the time the fish strikes, the entrant must hook and fight the fish. The only help he or she may have is to have someone net or gaff it. 10. Prizes will be determined by the weight of the fish in pounds and ounces. Fish weighed on a digital scale will be rounded off to the nearest ounce. In the event of a tie, the first fish weighed in will hold that position. If no eligible fish fills a position, prize will be drawn at the awards ceremony and will include all entrants who did not win a prize. 11. Fish must be weighed in by the entrant within 24 hrs. of catching the fish and all fish must be weighed in by 2:00 PM on Sunday, 6/12/ Fish must be weighed at any of the listed weigh-in stations except that on the last day of the tournament fish must be weighed at Betty&Nicks. 13. Entrants weighing in fish will receive a receipt from the weigh-master. Entrants should hold on to this to verify their identity and catch. 14. Any and all appeals or protests must be made by 2:15Pm on 6/12/ Entrant agrees to abide by the decision of the Tournament Committee and agrees that this decision is final. 16. Any entrant weighing in a fish which was not caught by him or her, within the rules and regulations of this tournament, will be disqualified and may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

6 Berkeley Striper Club PO Box 9 Seaside Park, NJ NEXT MEETING MAY 5 TH 2005 Multi-Club Schedule and Rules This year, we are competing in 12 Multi-Club Tournaments. All of the clubs have agreed on a 34" minimum length for all striped bass weighed in during the 2005 Invitational Tournaments. All fish must be caught from the shore. All waters. No boats are allowed at all. A pectoral fin must be clipped on all the striped bass presented for weigh-in. A plaque is given to the competing angler who weighs in the largest fish for each tournament. A full schedule for the year (including both Spring & Fall dates) is posted on our web site. All weigh-in stations must weigh, (as well as measure) and clip a pectoral fin on all the Striped Bass presented for weigh-in. In addition, weigh masters must record each Bonus card number presented by all anglers wishing to weigh in more than one fish per day. * Note: Effective May 20 th, Scott s Bait & Tackle in Bradley Beach will be open 24 hours.
