2 Volume 6 Issue 3 Message from the Executive Director Jean-Pierre Beaulieu A celebration of passion and generosity There are many of them, they are everywhere: in every region and golf club. Volunteers contribute to the delivery of initiatives to promote golf and increase the impact of our sport. Without them, none of it would be possible. In Québec, golf brings life back in our communities from the month of May to October. This is made possible thanks to the contribution of those who volunteer their time, energy, and even their weekends to organize various adult, family and junior activities. Don t be afraid to spread the word, this is not a secret! their contribution in different articles that are regularly published. The following volunteers are even dearest to our hearts as they have been supporting us for more than a quarter of century! If you have the opportunity to cross their path, take a moment to thank them. Supported by their passion, generosity and dedication, the golf industry is healthier than ever. Women s clinics, field trips for elementary school students, recreational tournaments, and provincial championships are all delivered with the precious collaboration of volunteers. Year after year, Golf Québec is honoured to count on dedicated people who harness their forces and energy for the betterment of the golf industry. 3 A well-deserved recognition for Mario Brisebois Talking about recognition, many have made a significant contribution by simply accomplishing their jobs. Mario Brisebois, well-known columnist of Le Journal de Montréal, current blogger for Golf Canada and mongolf.ca, and precious collaborator of the Golf International magazine, is one of them. As such, Golf Québec is proud to announce that Mario Brisebois will be inducted into the Québec Golf Hall of Fame during a ceremony to be held at a date later this year. Many athletes, both amateurs and professionals, benefited from exceptional media coverage throughout their athletic development. A warm, cheerful and energetic character, he always promoted sports with extraordinary generosity throughout the province and in Canada. His work and leadership have earned him the recognition and respect of athletes and the entire industry.

4 Women s golf Women in sports, women with a vision More than ever, golf is open to women in Québec. So many activities cater to their needs; from young girls to seasoned players, including business women who are often quite busy. Another indication that women s golf is becoming more popular? Singer and producer, Andrée Watters, is now co-ambassador of the Get Out, Play Golf campaign. Lately, sports that are appealing girls and activities that are especially designed for them are booming. FitSpirit s ( mission is to help Canadian girls discover the benefits and the fun of being physically active. Recently, Golf Québec attended the Filleactive Celebrations held at the Maisonneuve Park on May 15. Over 5,000 girls were participating in the event for a 5 or 10 km race and took this opportunity to test their golfing skills at the same time. Golf Fore the Cure Golf Québec is proud to be a partner of the Québec Breast Cancer Foundation in raising funds by reaching out to all its member clubs. This fundraiser is part of a nationwide program, championed by Golf Canada, in which each province participates actively to support a good cause, like breast cancer research in Canada. Play golf and fight breast cancer: priceless! Over 5,000 girls discovered golf as part of the Fillactive Celebrations Did you know that 1 out of 2 girls give up sports when they hit puberty? And these figures take a nosedive among 12- to 17-year-olds: 9 out of 10 girls fail to meet Canadian exercise guidelines by the time they graduate high school. Together, we can change this pattern and we believe that golf is the perfect activity to reverse this trend. The program is aimed to grow women s participation in the game of golf by introducing them to the game through fun, non-intimidating activities. Golf Québec invites its member clubs to register to run an event and contribute to fighting breast cancer. It s free, it s fun! The selected procedures to collect money are left to the imagination and discretion of each club captain and volunteer. The total amount collected in Québec through these activities will be remitted to the Québec Breast Cancer Foundation. 6 Excellence Development Québec players on Team Canada As part of its Player Development Program, Golf Québec strives to introduce as many participants to the game of golf as possible. When their athletic development is well under way, we support them on their path towards excellence to help them achieve their high performance goals and fully enjoy their passion for golf. being named as a first-team All- American. He was also one of three to compete for Canada at the World Amateur in He boasts victories earlier in his amateur career at the Men s Provincial Amateur Championship in 2013 as well as the 2012 Boys Provincial Junior Championship. With this in mind, Golf Québec is quite proud of those who were invited, this year, to pursue their development with Team Canada. Let us introduce them to you. Young Pro Squad A Québec City native, Anne-Catherine Tanguay is the perfect example of a young golfer who discovered the game through our regional and provincial structures. She pursued her development on the National Amateur Squad and a university offering a reputable high performance golf program. In 2017, she finished in the Top-10 of the Symetra Tour to earn her LPGA card, this year. Hugo Bernard (Photo by Minas Panagiotakis) From a very young age, Joey Savoie followed in the footsteps of his uncle, Jean-Louis Lamarre, a golf professional. Savoie is the second Québec player appointed to the National Amateur Squad. He was a Saint Leo University Lion for three years before joining the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee Québec amateur champion, this Pinegrove member won the 2015 Spring Open in a sudden-death playoff against golf professional, Marc-Étienne Bussières. He also was the amateur winner of the 2013 Spring Open and champion of the 2012 International Junior Masters. More recently, he was crowned at the Franklin American Mortgage Tennessee Open held at the end of May in College Grove, Tennessee. Anne-Catherine Tanguay National Amateur Squad A member of Club Laval-sur-le-Lac, Hugo Bernard has been a member of the National Amateur Squad since Native of the Gaspesia area, he started playing golf at nine years old. Last summer, he registered his third straight top-5 finish at the Canadian Men s Amateur Championship, in which he won in 2016 and was runnerup in In 2016, his efforts at Saint Leo University earned him Freshman of the Year honours to go with Joey Savoie

7 National Development Squad A member of Summerlea, Céleste Dao is one of Canada s bright young talents. She collected six wins in 2017, including victories at the Future Links, driven by Acura Québec Championship, Women s Provincial Amateur Championship, Girls Provincial Junior Championship, and the Canada Summer Games. Dao, 17, added a 10th-place result at the Canadian Junior Girls and led Canada at the World Junior Girls with a T24 finish in her second time playing the event. She joins the Development Squad as one of four rookies in At the beginning of May, she won the Mexican Junior Championship and, later on, qualified for the US Women s Open. Also from Summerlea where his father is Head Professional, Christopher Vandette earned his first Team Canada selection following a breakout campaign that saw a string of victories in the junior circuit. In 2017, he captured the Future Links driven by Acura Ontario Championship, the Boys Provincial Junior Championship, the Men s Provincial Amateur Championship, the Canadian juvenile title, and the individual title at the Canada Summer Games. Moreover, by winning the centennial edition of the ProvincialAmateur, he became the youngest champion of all times. 9 On the course Our Québec players are quite talented! This might sound surprising for those who are not quite familiar with golf or personally acquainted with a die-hard fan of tournaments, yet, by mid-june, the Golf Québec competitive season is already booming. Actually, this makes a lot of sense considering that over 40 qualifiers and multi-day provincial championships are spread throughout of our very short summer schedule. Men s Provincial Tour In the men s schedule, the month of May is dedicated to the Spring Open. Leading to this first major event, five qualifiers were held throughout the month of May, allowing 54 players to join the field of 75 participating exempted competitors. of the Year by the Université de Montréal Carabins for the schoolyear. Hosted for the 45th time by the Beaconsfield Golf Club, the Spring Open was celebrating its 89th edition. Martin Plante, Golf Professional of Le Balmoral, captured the victory by playing the par on the second hole of a suddendeath playoff against Félix Normand who committed a bogey despite his 3rd shot of over 300 yards. By doing so, the young Beloeil member still earned a very prestigious amateur title and a very promising way to start his competitive season. His great progress of the past few years lead one to expect outstanding performances, this summer, from this young player who was honoured as Rookie of the Year and Best Team Player On the University Tour The 2017 Golfer of the Year of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), Baptiste Mory, participated in the Canadian University and College Championship with his Rouge et Or teammates of Université Laval. He tied for 2nd in the individual competition held in British Columbia; the best score from one of the Québec participants. Provincial Junior Tour presented by Daigneau Eau de Source Presented in Valleyfield, the 4th Pee-Wee and Bantam Classic gathered 90 of the best Québec boys and girls of the pee-wee category (11-12) in one round while the bantam (13-14) players competed in a 36-hole event held over two days. In the pee-wee category, young Antonia Ho of Kanata was crowned in the girls division while Chad Huber of Whitlock captured the boys victory.

10 Huber, Ho, Héneault, and Parr, young champions to keep an eye out for. Jean-Philippe Parr of Ki-8-Eb had to face Daniel-Ange Morency of Lanaudière in a sudden-death playoff before successfully defending his 2017 title. In the girl s competition, Alicia Hénault of Drummondville and Yasmine Qureshi of Lorette also proved themselves in a suddendeath playoff from which Hénault was crowned. Laurent Desmarchais, winner of the Future Links, driven by Acura Ontario Championship (Photo by Golf Canada) On the national stage At the Future Links, driven by Acura Ontario Championship, Québec player of La Vallée du Richelieu, Laurent Desmarchais, came back from behind to win. Meanwhile, in the girls flight, Emily Romancew of Elm Ridge registered the best score by a Québec player and tied for 3rd. and internationally! As you must already know, the 17-year old member of Summerlea qualified for the U.S. Women's Open held in Alabama. This was her very first experience on the pro tour and, even if she did not make the cut, Céleste Dao definitely learnt a lot from our two Canadian Olympians, Brooke Henderson and Alena Sharp. 12 Events Get Out, Play Golf... and share The Get Out, Play Golf campaign started with a bang in the month of May as an advertising stunt was published on social networks to promote an already very active golf season. The ball is now in your camp. Visit the Facebook page, participate in our numerous contests, and share the news! Launched in two segments on Facebook and Instagram, the advertising stunt first started with a special group of golfers running in the streets of Montréal, early in the morning, to place golf pins in the city s potholes. They surely caught everyone s attention! Throughout the golf season, follow the campaign s Facebook page. Our two ambassadors will be back with new versions of the Birdies Stories. Many contests will be announced to encourage more people to get out and play golf more often. Get Out, Play Golf Tour In addition, the Get Out, Play Golf Tour will be back with approximately 10 outings in which you will discover golf clubs that are thinking outside the box to deliver golf events as never seen before! 48 hours later, the second segment of this stunt showed us that these funny fellows were, in the facts, our 2018 Get Out, Play Golf ambassadors, Andrée Watters and Daniel Melançon, who were having a blast while chipping and putting in the streets. Max Lalonde and Camila Bouchard Max Lalonde, radio announcer, and Camila Bouchard will be your hosts. They will also visit the golf gatherings organized by the fun bunch at Hoolig ns as well as the MSOP (Major Series of Putting) qualifiers. Daniel Melançon and Andrée Watters are your Get Out, Play Golf ambassadors. This successful communication strategy created quite a buzz on social networks. With over 55,000 views in the month of May, the message was even shared on the Facebook page of the popular VLOG TV show aired on TVA. Video clips, contests, and Tour New for golf facilities This summer, we will ask golf facilities to share the word and become natural torchbearers of the campaign. As such, they will share the Get Out, Play Golf posts and content on their social networks and in their newsletters. They will also get to create and generate original content. At the end of the season, the club that will be the most active torchbearer will win a content creation package for a value of $2,000 (pictures, videos, articles, editorials, etc.) for the 2019 golf season as well as a special recognition award at the Golf Summit of December Enjoy fully this golf season.
