6 PAGE 6 THE CHATTERBOX 2017 NEWSLETTER From the Business Office.. Guest Passes Those entitled to 2017 Guest Passes will have them available in the Pro Shop. When having a guest to Pinehaven please see the Pro Shop staff to redeem passes. Other Clubs This season many of you will be visiting other area golf clubs to play golf or dine in their restaurant. If you want these costs charged to your account, please be sure to tell them you are a Pinehaven Country Club member, give your member number, and legibly sign (or print) your name on the charge slip. This will avoid any problems at the other club or here in the office as to whose account should be charged. Late payment To avoid a finance charge, payment must be made on or before the 15 th of each month. If you discover an error on your bill, please notify the office immediately and we will do our best to resolve the discrepancy. Any unpaid balance on the first of the following month could affect your membership privileges. Please refer to the delinquency policy in the Members Handbook. Drop Box If you need to drop off your payment outside of Business Office hours there are 2 drop boxes available for your convenience. One box is located to the left of the interior Business Office door below the window and the second is located in the exterior Business Office door. Proposed Rule: Under new Rule 13.1: There would no longer be a penalty if a player (or opponent) accidentally causes the player s ball to move on the putting green. The substance of this Rule change has already been implemented as of January 1, 2017 by authorizing Committees to adopt a Local Rule that eliminates the penalty for accidentally moving a ball on the putting green. Reasons for Change: The shape, slope and condition of many putting greens today increase the chances that a ball at rest on the putting green might move, and it can be difficult to determine whether a player caused the ball to move or whether the ball was moved by wind or other natural causes. When a ball moves while the player is doing nothing more than taking normal actions to prepare for a stroke, it can seem unfair for the player to be penalized. Most ball moved situations occur on the putting green, involve minimal movement of the ball, frequently occur when the player is taking reasonable actions to prepare for a stroke and the ball can be easily replaced. These considerations are not the same when the ball lies off the putting green, and so the penalty would continue to apply (with exceptions, such as accidentally moving a ball during search) to a player or opponent in those circumstances to reinforce the principle that the ball should be played as it lies and that players should continue to exercise care when near to a ball in play.

10 PAGE 10 THE CHATTERBOX 2017 NEWSLETTER Just a friendly reminder as we move into the golf season that Pinehaven does have Club policy on proper attire in and around the Club. To refresh you on that policy, below is a paraphrased excerpt from the Club Member Handbook pertaining to Rules and Regulations for expected member and guest attire. (See the Member Handbook for more detail.) K. ATTIRE, DEMEANOR, EQUIPMENT & MISCELLANEOUS Members and guests are expected to wear proper private club attire at all times, unless otherwise accepted. Members are responsible for notifying their guests of the Club s attire rules. For those members or guests wearing shorts, only finished* shorts are acceptable. Swimsuits, cut-offs, brief shorts (More than six inches above the knee for men, mid-thigh for women, bike shorts, or jogging or sweat pants may not be worn. Denim jeans* (including designer jeans ) or dungarees may not be worn anywhere on the golf course, driving range/practice facilities. Denim jeans are permitted in the Clubhouse only (no ripped knees, etc.). Men shall wear a collared shirt, at least quarter-sleeved shirt or turtleneck or mock turtleneck at all times. Women shall wear collared sleeveless golf shirts and fashion tee shirts suitable for golf. Shirts not designed to be worn outside shall be tucked in at all times. Tank tops, fishnet shirts, halter tops, and sweat suits are not permitted. It is not the Board s intention to dictate fashion, rather it is the intent that the policies, rules, and regulations here at Pinehaven that apply to all members and guests be known and complied with by all members at all times. We hope that all members can respect this particular policy. While the Board certainly does not want to create any conflict over this issue, but since it is a rule of the Club, the Board has authorized the staff of the Pro Shop to monitor this policy to ensure compliance. If a member or guest is identified as not in compliance with this policy, one advisory warning will be given. If a second non-compliance is identified, the member will be asked to change his/her attire before playing golf that day. Thank you for your respect for Proposed Rule: Players would continue to drop a ball when taking relief, but the dropping procedure would be changed in several ways as detailed in Rule How a ball may be dropped is simplified, with no limitations on how the ball must be held or how high it must be dropped from; the only requirement would be that the ball be let go from any height above the ground or any growing thing or other natural or artificial object so that it falls through the air, rather than being set down or placed on these things. Reasons for Change: The new procedure moves away from the current mechanical approach on how to drop a ball, with its several procedural requirements; the focus would appropriately be on where the ball is dropped and played from, not the mechanics of how it gets there. At the same time, requiring the player to drop a ball (as opposed to the alternative of placing it) would retain a desired randomness about where the ball will end up: This is especially the case when a ball is dropped in more difficult conditions such as thick rough or longer grass. The player has no guarantee that the ball will come to rest on a desired spot or in a good lie. Relaxing the restrictions on how to drop a ball would help pace of play by making it easier for a player to take relief with only a single drop: When a ball is dropped from shoulder height, it often rolls a considerable distance, so that the need for a re-drop is common.
11 PAGE 11 THE CHATTERBOX 2017 NEWSLETTER Golf Course Pace of Play Pace of play is always a hot topic of conversation. I believe there is a delicate balance that we are trying to establish and maintain. Our Course is rated to be played in a little over 4 hours, this would be for a foursome playing under average conditions. With this in mind there are many variables that can impact a groups pace of play such as; number of players in the group, weather conditions, format of play, etc. Some players and groups play faster or slower than others please try to be understanding of that. I think everyone having an enjoyable round experience is our most important goal. With this in mind please try to be courteous and understanding of your fellow members and golfers. Below are some helpful hints of how we can all work together 1. Be prepared and be ready to play 2. Manage your time on the tee. Playing honors on the tee is preferred however if you are struggling to keep up with the group in front of then "hit when ready" 3. Plan your next shot. Once you are off the tee, plan ahead for your next shot. determine your yardage and make your club selection before it is your turn to play. 4. Keep your pre shot routine short. Make your club selection, pick your line of play and trust yourself. A concise pre shot routine will help you play quicker and more confidently (so you don't over analyze) 5. Be helpful to others in your group. Follow the flight of all shots in your group, not just your own. Be ready to help others out; rake a bunker, replace a divot, repair a ball mark or attend to the flagstick. 6. Keep up with the group in front of you. Your correct position on the golf course is directly behind the group in front of you, not immediately in front of the group behind you. 7. Put the conversation on hold. Never delay making a stroke because you are in the middle of a conversation. Play your shot and then resume the conversation. 8. Be efficient on the putting green. Mark, clean your ball when you arrive at the putting green so you will be ready to replace it and play when it is your turn. 9. Be courteous to other golfers. If you have an issue with the pace of play of a group in front of you or behind you please handle it politely. A confrontation on the golf course does not help the pace of play or a groups enjoyment of the round. if the problem persists then allow the Pro Shop Staff to address it. Remember that it is not necessary to yell at the Pro Shop Staff as we did not cause the delay.

14 PAGE 14 THE CHATTERBOX 2017 NEWSLETTER Club Fitting Golfers who invest in their game by purchasing a new set of clubs should make one more investment, too: getting custom fit. Every golfer is a bit different in size, body shape and the shape of their golf swing. Custom fitting results in clubs that are specifically suited to an individual's height, strength, club head speed and swing characteristics. Contrary to the belief of many, club fitting does not have to be a time-consuming or expensive endeavor. A very basic club fitting might take as little as 15 minutes, with the average being minutes. It is best to do a club fitting outdoors so that the ball flight can be observed. By watching the ball flight produced by each variation of a club, and checking the impact marks left on adhesive strips attached to the clubface and sole, a recommendation can be made for the best combination of shaft (length, flex and kick point), loft (standard, strong or flat), lie (strong or flat), grip and swing weight, among other factors. The Golf Professional Staff at Pinehaven Country Club recommends that you get custom fit before purchasing new clubs. There is no charge for our custom fitting services and we will give you trade in credit, on your old clubs, towards the purchase of your new equipment. Get custom fit for your specs before the Demo Day on May 12 th and then try out as many types of irons as you want that night. Putter and Wedge Game Promotion Purchase any putter or wedge in stock and receive a complimentary 20 minute lesson with PGA Professional Brian Pierotti or Assistant Professional Matthew McPhillips.
