1 SCHOLARSHIP 5 SEPTEMBER SEPTEMBER 2017 ISSUE: 30 UITGAWE: Dear Parents FROM THE HEADMASTER I want to thank all the parents who attended the information and question session with regards to the feasibility of building an Astroturf at Paarl Boys Primary on Thursday evening. The meeting was led by Mike Merryweather from Synsport. The company is an Astroturf specialist and has a fine record of building turfs at a number of schools and clubs. The meeting began with a presentation of a proposed layout of the Astroturf and accompanying synthetic surface area on the north side of the turf. Please follow the link to see the layout. The meeting was informed that the products being used are robust and multifunctional. Samples of the products were also circulated amongst attendees. It was mentioned that there is a perception that an Astroturf is holy ground and that it may only be used for practicing hockey. This is however not true. There are other schools who also use the Astroturf multi-functionally. Rhenish Primary was mentioned as one such school. Rugbywedstryde en rugby-oefeninge sal net nie meer by Klein Boishaai kan plaasvind nie. Die volgende dien as n opsomming van die vrae, antwoorde en opmerkings tydens die vergadering: 1. V: Sal die laerskool dieselfde geleentheid kry as die hoërskool om op die veld te oefen? A: Dit is reeds met HJS bespreek. Die laerskool sal op Maandae en Woensdae oefen en HJS op Dinsdae en Donderdae. Die operasionele plan is as eerste prioriteit tussen die twee skole uitgeklaar voordat daar met die eksperimentele skooltye begin is. Vir die plan om te kan werk, sal die skooltye gehandhaaf moet word soos nou in kwartaal 2 en 3 toegepas is. 2. V: Mag die seuns op die Astro speel tydens pouses? A: Ja, beslis. Die bykomende area op die plan aangedui, bied ook geleentheid vir alternatiewe aanwending terwyl daar aktiwiteite op die Astro aangebied word. 3. V: Waar speel die nasorgseuns? A: Die nasorgseuns mag op enige van die areas speel indien daar nie formele oefeninge is nie. Dit was nog altyd die geval. Die nasorg se program is so gestruktureer dat daar nie massas seuns op een slag gelyktydig speeltyd het nie. 4. V: Wie betaal vir die projek? A: Indien die goedkeuring deur Klein Boishaai se gemeenskap verleen word dat die Astro hier gebou kan word, sal daar gesprekke tussen die Beheerliggame van beide skole geskied oor bogenoemde. In die aanvanklike gesprekke, is daar ooreengekom dat HJS vir die grootste gedeelte van die koste sal instaan. Daar sal ook n kontrak tussen die twee skole opgestel word om gebruik, instandhouding en vervangingskostes te omskryf. 5. V: Wat gebeur nou volgende? A: n Finale opname word onder die ouers van Klein Boishaai gedoen met die doel om die bou van die Astroturf by Klein Boishaai goed of af te keur. In die geval van goedkeuring, word daar onmiddellik begin om al die nodige goedkeurings vir die implimentering van projek te verkry. In die geval van afkeuring, sal die implikasies aan die skoolgemeenskap deurgegee word. Comments from the floor: The boys practicing at BHS enjoy it very much. The walking to BHS and back is also working well. The school is also experimenting with transporting the smaller boys to BHS and back. SPORTMANSHIP The Astroturf at Paarl Boys Primary provides an opportunity to create continuity within the hockey code from grade The two schools need the facility. Hockey is arguably the fastest growing school sport in the country. The sacrifices that are made to make this happen is worthy of the cause. It is something that will benefit the boys of both schools. Attendees encouraged each other to inform parents who were not present to support the implementation of the project. He competed against the best of the best in the Western Cape and showed what it means to be a true gentlemen when he waited for all the accolades to conclude so that he could go and congratulate the winners. Thank you for representing the school with such humbleness and good sportsmanship. We are incredibly proud of you. SKYFSKIET Herman Roux het aan die SAARA Wes-Kaap se 2017 Provinsiale Kampioenskappe deelgeneem op 25 & 26 Augustus 2017, en het die volgende prestasies behaal: 10m Sporter Mans - o.14 - Goue Medalje 10m 3P Sporter Mans - o.14 - Goue Medalje Herman het ook na afloop van die Provinsiale Kampioenskappe sy Westelike Provinsie Kleure ontvang en is verkies tot die span wat die Wes-Kaap gaan verteenwoordig by SAARA Nasionale Kampioenskappe, in Douglas, gedurende die Oktober skool vakansie. 3 KOORFEES On the 16 th of September 2017, our Junior Choir will be be taking part in a choir festival organised by La Rochelle Girls' Primary School. This will take place in the Paarl Town Hall. Two well-known artists, Jannie Moolman and Corlea Botha, will be guest performers at this event. Tickets for this event are already on sale at Computicket under Jannie en Corlea Koorfees. Please buy tickets early to avoid disappointment. Ons Juniorkoor gaan op 16 September 2017 deelneem aan 'n Koorfees wat deur Primêre Meisiesskool La Rochelle aangebied word. Die spoggeleentheid vind plaas in die Paarl Stadsaal. Jannie Moolman en Corlea Botha sal optree as gaskunstenaars. Kaartjies hiervoor is beskikbaar by Computicket: Jannie en Corlea Koorfees. Ons moedig u aan om asb. vroegtydig u kaartjies te koop, om enige teleurstelling te voorkom. Hierdie is n aand waar die seuns spog met hul puik werk en talente. 4 BPS SPEED CHESS TOURNAMENT Our annual BPS Speed Chess Tournament took place on Friday, 1 September in our school hall. We had visiting teams from Courtrai, Paarl Gymnasium, Hugenote, Eversdal, Welgemoed, Curro Durbanville and ourselves. It was a great afternoon of speed chess with many very tight contests. The winners of our floating trophy at the end of the afternoon was Eversdal. Well done to them. Thank you to all who attended and all those involved with the organisation. PAUL ROOS GIMNASIUM O.12TOERNOOI n Groep o.12-hokkiespelers het Vrydag, 1 en Saterdag, 2 September aan die Paul Roos Gimnasium o.12-hokkietoernooi in Stellenbosch deelgeneem. Die span het 8 wedstryde gespeel, waarvan hulle drie gewen, 4 verloor en een gelykop gespeel het. Die span het n totaal van 24 doele aangeteken en slegs 13 afgestaan. Dit was n heerlike toernooi ter voorbereiding vir die 2018-seisoen en die spelers het hulle baie goed van hul taak gekwyt! CHARITY WEEK Our annual Charity Week took place last week, 28 August to 1 September. All the items that were collected during the first five weeks were handed over to the respective institutions. This event has once again opened our eyes to the needs that others have and has made us appreciate how fortunate we are. We are so proud and grateful to each and every learner who contributed to this worthy cause. The compassion that was shown has gone a long way to the ones on the receiving end. Thank you.
