1 REPORT ON SENIORS INTERCLUB MATCHES IN 2018 Matches: Matches were arranged home and away with Crewe, Dunham Forest, Helsby, Mere, Sandiway, Vale Royal, Vicars Cross and Warrington. Results: Home Away Home Away Home Away Won Halved Lost Playing statistics: Meals: Captains of the Day: Future Notes: New Interclub Match Organiser: 35 Seniors participated in the 16 interclub matches played, which is a dramatic reduction from previous years of numbers usually in the forties. The majority of players who indicated availability at the start of the year were allocated matches. 10 or more games - 10 players 5-9 games - 14 players 2-5 games - 9 players 1 game - 2 player Thanks again go to players who were willing to make up teams when others dropped out. The cost this year has been per head for home meals, which includes coffee and tea prior to playing, with biscuits provided by a fairy godfather. Many thanks for the volunteers this year and I am sure many new faces will be seen at these events during the coming year. Having special prizes of bottles of wine for nearest the pin has continued to go down very well and, with the continued support of the Treasurer, these prizes could continue. The possibility of adding Hill Valley to our list is still pending upon your support. Two of our matches involved trophies, and I have the misfortune to report both of their losses to Crewe and Helsby. Maybe we can recover them next year. As I have done 3 years at the post, time has come to hand over to someone else to take over, and I am sure that he will be given the same support that I have received. 2 REPORT ON SENIORS MAJOR COMPETITIONS IN 2018 Majors 1 Bob Molyneux Singles Trophy 32 competitors participated in the first 'major' competition of the year, down from 35 last year. Played between April and September, Peter Wilson beat David Cowell (a perennial finalist) to lift the Trophy. 2 Charity Shield 48 players (6 more than last year) competed for the Charity Shield in 3-man teams. The team of Frank Whiteman, Kevin Pinder and Jim Wren 89 points shaded Pat Roper, Chris Leech and Jim McFarlane on a card play-off both teams ending with 89 points. 3 Jubilee Trophy The Jubilee Trophy, an individual bogey competition attracted 39 competitors this year, 2 less than the previous year. The winner was Adrian Cross on +6 beating Ben martin on a card play off. 4 Pairs Plate The Pairs Plate, a pairs better ball competition, was held over two rounds in October, attracting 32 competitors, UP 8 on last year. Arnie Sheppard and Adam Sommerville carried all before them with a magnificent 91 points with Brian 'Supreme Leader' Riley and Paul Williams running up with 80 points. Other Competitions 5 Christmas Yellow Ball Although 48 competitors, 10 UP on last year, were lined up to play, very inclement weather put a stop to proceedings before they d even started! 6 Triggs Trophy The Chris Triggs winter knock-out trophy, run on the same lines as the summer Bob Molyneux competition, attracted 29 competitors, 3 UP on last year. Adam Sommerville and David Cowell (yes, him again!) will contest the final. 7 AGM Yellow Ball The results of the AGM Yellow Ball competition, the Winter Eclectic and the Order of Merit will be announced at the AGM, as well as the winner of the Chris Triggs Trophy. Summary Everyone has had a good year of Majors, etc and entry numbers have remained steady. The numbers attending the Christmas party, the main social event of the year, were up and a decision was taken not to have entertainment, a decision that seemed to go down well. Unfortunately, it has come to light that some people were not happy with the food offered and it would be helpful if any issues could be raised as soon as possible so they can be dealt with. Hopefully this year will see a raising of the food standard bar to everyone s satisfaction! 3 REPORT ON SENIORS ROLL UPS IN 2018/19 1 Qualifiers 2018 During the summer period we played 12 qualifiers with a further 3 being rained off. These ran from the 4 th April until the 22 nd October. They were well supported with an average attendance of Although a few down on the high s of some previous years it remains acceptable as weather will always have an effect on numbers. Support for these games was improved from 29.8 in 2017 to We played a variety of competitions as follows:- 3 Texas Scrambles with an average attendance of 32 (33.7 last year) 1 2 clubs and a putter with 22 attending (34.5 last year) 3 Better balls with an average attendance of 32.7 (26 last year) 3 Yellow Balls with an average attendance of 31.3 (23 last year) 1 Bogey competition with 39 attending (no bogey comp. last year) 3 Winter Roll Ups 2018/2019 This year s winter roll ups have been fortunate to escape cancellation due to weather. 4 4 Finally It goes without saying that my thanks go to all those that help on a Monday. Those that see out and in.brian Riley, Gordon Holland, Clwyd Roberts, Steve Nettleton, Bob Hunter, Alan Robinson, Iain Lough, John Marlor, Graham Skilton and Colin Albel. We also have Russ Smith and Jim Wren producing the handicap adjustment sheets each week during the winter and Clwyd Roberts for producing and publishing his competitions results sheets. I believe that any reductions in numbers could be due to a lack of new 55 to 65 year olds joining and I suspect changing pensions could be one of the reasons for that. 6 REPORT ON SENIORS WEBSITE The website is regularly updated with information on:- Future diary: Seniors Competition results: Seniors Inter Club matches:- Both Seniors and Club competitions and social activities are shown Thank you to those who supply the information. All Club competition results are shown on HowDidIDo, so these are not repeated on the Seniors website Including diary, team selection and match reports Other Seniors Competition results Arrangements for other events:- Such as the AGM, Charity and Christmas dinners, etc Contacts, links, etc In 2018, some technical issues began to manifest themselves with Adobe Flash (due to be phased out in 2020) and our host Moonfruit. Russ Smith suggested that, based on his experience with the Cuddington and Sandiway Village website, we should move to a more up to date and adaptable host and publisher. The Seniors Committee, having viewed examples of the new format gave the go ahead for the switch. A huge thank you to Russ (and his helper from the Village website) for the hours spent in transferring the information and setting up the new site. I think you ll agree it s a huge improvement If anyone has any ideas on format, information to be shown, etc please let me know Please find attached an overview of the OLD Seniors website usage and visits for the last twelve months. Please don t be fooled by some of the countries shown, it s only robotic website trawling or perhaps the Seniors are still taking their holidays in exotic places!!
