1 THE SANDY SENTINEL Kosmos Drive, Kosmos, Hartebeespoort Dam, Bojanala Tel: JUNE 2010 Good Day Members, The greens are recovering well after hollowtining in April, we look forward to slick speedy greens this Winter. The greens team has been hard at work with reconstructing, demolishing and leveling out of tee boxes. The second tee boxes have been lowered and new tee boxes are being constructed adjacent to the Prentec plant, the hole will alter from a par 4 to a par 5 for both men and woman. The tee boxes on the 2 nd and 9 th hole have been flattened and extended to the pathway increasing the distance. Construction should be completed by the end of June and playable by September. The fourth tee box built adjacent to Sandy Lane no.58 (The House of Cherry) should be playable by July. On completion of the alterations Sandy Lane will be re-measured, with the hope of obtaining a higher course and par rating. You will have noticed the material for the extension of the pathway at the 7th green, which should be completed by July. We appeal to all golfers to remain on the golf cart paths where possible, and to stay away from all restricted areas which are clearly marked with golf cart signage. Winter growth and recovery is very slow, the greens team have made a special request to all golfers to fix pitch and divots. The Golf AGM was held on Saturday, 15 th May, we congratulate and wish the 2010/11 committee the best of luck as we all know in these challenging economic times one needs to become creative and remain positive no matter the challenge. Allan, Gerry, Niall, Gordon and our rose among the thorns Sanet, Sandy Lane is behind you 100% and have all the faith in the newly elected team. As reiterated at the AGM any homeowner wanting to play golf, at member rates whether in formal competitions or social games must be in possession of a handicap card, failing which the golfer will be charged as a non-affiliated visitor. Please contact Alyson at the golf office to apply for the official affiliation card. We request all existing golfers to complete a member information form at the office which consists of contact details, handicap, membership number, date of commencement of membership and class of membership. Congratulation s to Gerry Few for being re-elected as the President of Gauteng North Golf Union for 2010/11, this is another huge feather in Sandy Lane s cap. Gerry we wish you well and are very proud to have you as the Club Captain of Sandy Lane. The Sanlam Cancer Challenge held on the 1 st May 2010 was a huge success. Congratulations to the division winners, Lloyd Miller, Ian Setzkorn, Greg Law, Pat Anderson, Sanet Riekert and Lenore Kerrigan. We wish you the best in the up-coming regional finals which are to be held on 29th August at Sandy Lane for the ladies, and the 21 st August at Bronkhorstspruit for the men. Geluk Boere.. Julle is bakgat is julle jaar.. Souties...WHAT HAPPENED?????? (Kevin, Mark and Marinella can you kindly explain????? What happened to being proudly English????) The Boere vs Souties seems to have become a battle of the numbers with twenty Boere and only ELEVEN Souties. The Souties finished with a grand average of 30.5 points and the Boere with 32.4 points. 1
2 Aries Pools New Pools, Ponds & Water Features, Renovations to Existing Pools, Repairs, Pool Heating, Salt Chlorination and Pool Safety. NOT ALL POOLS ARE EQUAL T: F: C: C: Comedy corner Bill and Ralph, both of equal ability, decide to have a round together and "play it as it lays" on all shots. Both hit their tee shots on the par-5 No.1 hole down the middle and about 260. They drive up for the second shot, and Bill hits his shot down the middle for an easy approach. But Ralph slices his over the trees and it ends up in the cart path of the adjoining hole. "Guess I get a free drop from the cart path," he says. "Oh no," says Bill, "We agreed. Play it as it lays." So Ralph drives Bill up to his ball in front of the green, drops him off and drives over to his ball on the cart path. Bill watches in amusement as sparks shower down from the practice swings of his opponent, then, in amazement as a perfectly struck shot lands on the green and roles to within 3 ft. of the pin. Ralph drives back to the green. Bill says, "Great shot back there! What club did you use?" Ralph responds, "Your six iron." 2

Do you know that when a woman wears a leather dress, a man's heart beats quicker, his throat gets dry, He gets weak in the knees, and he begins to think irrationally. Ever wonder why?
