As I am writing this we have just applied a second application of sand dressing to the greens. A situation that is truly a first for me, normally we are struggling for growth due to low temperatures, so this would never be done in colder conditions as the dressing would sit on the surface for long periods, but we are taking as much advantage of every situation the weather patterns are allowing us to do. As you will have seen there has been a new path installed on the 15 th hole, adjacent to the mens tee, however more work is and will be carried out in next years winter programme to extend and connect the paths together and landscape the rear of the green to improve the aesthetics and playability of that area. Also the worn areas at the end of paths and perimeters of the greens have been repaired and returfed, all adding to the overall quality product that we are now providing for all the golfers playing our wonderful course. DRIVING RANGE Ian Pemberton HGK The building is substantially complete with only the roller shutter door to install. The internal lighting and range lighting materials are on order for delivery in early March. It will be necessary to erect high netted fences on each side of the range to prevent ball going onto York Road and the rough along the 2 nd fairway, we are awaiting cost estimates from local companies. We have selected the ball collector, washer/dispenser and driving mats, they are readily available and can be delivered within 1 week of confirmation. We have ordered Yellow Callaway balls with a logo that reads STOLEN FROM CLEVELAND GOLF RANGE.

The member must play with the guests. Vouchers are now on sale in the office and will be valid from 1 st April until 30 th September. 3 ANDY BROOK As of 1 st March Andy will be coaching on a full time basis at Cleveland Golf Club as his tenure at Castle Eden comes to a close. Andy will continue to work with our Junior Section, the Special Needs Group and golfing beginners, as well as concentrating on his general coaching activities. Good news for all, Andy will now be available for lessons on Sundays. NEW MOUNDS We and our venture partner 1 st Choice Skips have engaged the consultancy company WESTBURY ENVIRONMENTAL Ltd they submitted our application for a new Tipping Licence in the 3 rd week of February. We know it was a full and comprehensive application package and we are hoping for a speedy response from the Environment Agency. The mound building adjacent to the 4 th fairway as ceased as we have now exhausted out existing Tipping Licence of 5,000 tonne. BLIND GOLFERS ACE Visually impaired golfer Jonny Penny has hit his first hole-in-one aged 85, at Huntly Aberdeenshire. Tommy Close

I hope to get to know everyone a little better and will be running some special offers on lessons throughout March. All lessons include V1 video swing analysis. 40 Minute Lesson 23 4 For 3 I have always been passionate about the short game and have helped numerous golfers to shave those few shots off from around the greens. I am currently running a one hour bunker skills special for those who have trouble getting caught in the trap. Ingredients :- Preparation : RECIPE OF THE MONTH From Your Golfing Gourmet, Simon A Blast from the Past - Chicken Cordon Bleu 4 chicken breasts, boned and skinned 6 oz gruyere cheese in thin slices 8 slices prosciutto Jar of dijon mustard 1 Tbsp Rape seed oil 1 cup bread crumbs (panko if possible) Salt and pepper 1 Beaten egg Flour 4 wooden cocktail sticks Preheat oven to Gas Mark 5, 190C, 375F. Place a slice of prosciutto on a flat surface lay another slice on top crossways. Divide the cheese into 4 portions. Put 1 portion of cheese in the middle of the prosciutto cross, fold over to wrap the cheese. Repeat the last 3 steps to make 4 parcels. Cut a deep pocket in each chicken breast. Coat the inside of each breast with mustard. Insert a parcel into each breast and stitch closed with a cocktail stick. Season the breasts all over with salt and pepper. Dip each breast in the flour and coat evenly Dip each breast in the beaten egg and coat evenly. Dip each breast in the bread crumbs and coat evenly. Oil a shallow and place in the breasts, ensure they are not touching to allow them to bake evenly. Place in the middle of the oven mins, ensure the chicken is cooked through. Remove the cocktail sticks. Serve with new potatoes and asparagus spears. ENJOY S. Ella

4 ETIQUETTE REMINDER for MARCH Preventing Unnecessary Damage Players should avoid causing damage to the course by removing divots when taking practice swings or by hitting the head of the club into the ground, whether in anger or for any other reason. Players should ensure no damage is done to the putting green when putting down bags or the flagstick. In order to avoid damaging the hole, players should not stand too close to the hole and should take care during the handling of the flagstick and the removal of the ball from the hole. The head of the club should not be used to remove the ball from the hole. Players should not lean on their clubs when on the putting green, particularly when removing the ball from the hole. The flagstick should be properly replaced in the hole before the players leave the putting green.
