Click Here to Link to the Calendar LATEST NEWS & EVENTS From Our President Dicky Whitten Dear HCC Members, It is a pleasure to serve you as the President of Henderson Country Club for The club has seen so many challenges over the last few years and we are proud to announce that Henderson Country Club has survived and prevailed through those challenges. This past year was certainly a challenging yet rewarding year for the Club. The Board and Ex Officio

2 President, Maurice Floyd, worked countless hours to ensure the future of Henderson Country Club. If you are interested in all that transpired, please visit the office on the 3rd floor and ask Betty for a copy of the history. The Board and I are so excited about 2015 as we attempt to make changes and achieve goals to ensure the sustainability of Henderson Country Club and continue to build upon the momentum we have gained this past fall. Having said that, we need you help in making Henderson Country Club the best possible membership experience. As reporting shows, we find that the West End dining room is very underutilized, seeing its most revenues towards the end of each month. I understand with the food minimums that we have in place, this is a common experience. I urge you as your Club President to please consider Henderson Country Club as a dining option more consistently throughout the month. This will certain improve the much needed revenue that we need in the Food and Beverage areas of the Club, but it will also bring that community and value of HCC, that once was so endeared by its members. 5 carte menu on Sundays instead of buffet, featuring breakfast and lunch options. Menus will change weekly, so if you have any suggestions or requests please let your food and beverage team know and we will do the best we can to accommodate you. On the last Sunday of the month we will still offer our full HCC Buffet featuring: Prime Rib, Fried Chicken, Omelet station and much more. Along with our salad and soup bar and an assortment of Chef s choice desserts which will include cobbler and ice cream. Bring in the New Year starting January 25th and come join us for our wonderful HCC Sunday Brunch display. Snack Bar Lunch buffet in the 19th hole has been hit and miss and since your food and beverage team strives to do all we can for our members and the fact that this lunch option is not supporting itself we will no longer be offering the buffet as a lunch option, but will reevaluate it in early spring. Thank you for your understanding. Snack bar menu from 9 5 and soup and salad bar from 11:30 3 will always be available to our members. We are in the process of looking at our Snack Bar menu for possible changes. If you have any suggestions or requests that you may want to see on our new menu please feel free to make those suggestions to any of the food and beverage team. Business and Social Events We are always available to our members and their friends or businesses. Planning a wedding, reunion, meeting or party? Looking for that perfect place to entertain your family, friends, and clients? The Henderson Country Club can meet all of your needs from a continental breakfast to a formal sit down dinner. Let Tracey create an event for you to remember. We can accommodate groups up to 250. Let us find the perfect space and plan the perfect menu for your event. The upper courts now have an "Aussie Broom" for you to use. It is a rubberized type broom which allows for a more even distribution of courts surface material.

When you are done with the Aussie Broom please hang the broom with the metal hook attached to the rope handle. This will increase the life of the surface and the broom.

It works much better than the brush brooms. Like golfers repairing ball marks, it would help the courts if you use the Aussie broom when you complete playing. It only takes a minute. This clinic is open to the public, please spread the word as we try to grow the game of golf and sustain HCC in From the GCM Crew I am ever so grateful to be composing this newsletter submission, if for no other reason that I am sitting in our toasty warm clubhouse inside from the 22 degrees on this fine January day! I am an outdoor kind of guy, and my whole profession revolves around working in the elements, (cold, heat, drizzle, snow, locust, sandstorm.your get the idea). Now and again it is nice to sit at a desk, in a climate controlled environment, and fill in everyone on what has been going on lately with the golf course maintenance department. The highlight of the new year, so far, has been the bunker renovation being performed on the greenside sand traps at our 15th green. This is one of the areas deemed a priority on our project list for I am pleased to report that 3 of the four hazards has been completed, with one remaining. I am very satisfied with the efficiency the golf course maintenance staff has undertaken this great task. Over the years the existing sand in these bunkers gets contaminated. With daily maintenance and rain that mixes the native soil or clay with the bunker sand, the material becomes tainted, thus being undesirable aesthetically and degrading the performance of the sand from a

13 playability aspect. To remedy this issue, the staff excavates the bunker, removing as much of the old material as possible, and leaving a firm base in the hazard. Then, the bunker is reshaped, if necessary, so from the bunker face to the floor of the bunker has a subtle slope effect. Think of the shape of the hazard as needing to be formed into the contour of a common soup bowl. Next the drainage trenches are hand dug, to a depth of greater than 1 foot into the subsurface of the bunker. The drainage trenches are configured somewhat into a herring bone type shape. The main line goes from the highest point of the bunker to the lowest to allow for adequate water flow and a series of fingers are connected off of the main line and the main drain line is connected to a piece of drain tile that exits the bunker allowing the water to flow out and away from the sand trap. 4 perforated drain tile (this is drain tile we get form Lowes s. It has tiny slits throughout the pipe that creates a wicking effect on excess moisture, yet sand won t leach into the pipe) is laid out in the trenches and covered with pea gravel. Just enough gravel is used to cover the pipe and about a 1inch lip is left so when the sand is added the gravel will be less likely to work up to the surface of the sand. Once all the sand is added to the sand trap it is worked over and over with our mechanical sand trap machine as well as by hand till it is consistent in depth throughout the hazard. Obviously a lot of work goes into this process. But it is necessary and it works. In time the majority of our bunkers should undergo this procedure to bring them all back to a more desirable quality. I hope this enlightens everyone to how complex our job can be sometimes and how dedicated the GCM staff is, to providing HCC with great playing conditions.
