2 The scoreboard at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum read USC 21, and the 40 point underdog Stanford Cardinal, 14. It was the 4 th quarter with 49 seconds remaining in the game, as the Cardinal offense stepped up to the line. Tavita Pritchard, the Stanford quarterback dropped back deep in the pocket and released a Hail Mary pass towards the end zone. Miraculously, a Cardinal receiver, leaped above the USC defender and came down with the ball for a touchdown. Inspired by the effort of their teammate, the Stanford offense rallied for a 24 to 23 victory over their hated rival. Flash forward two years to the commencement ceremonies of the Stanford graduating class of A roar from the crowd goes up as the name Mark Bradford is announced. The same Mark Bradford that came down with the key reception that helped Stanford defeat USC two years earlier. This could be the story of any number of student athletes across the country that worked hard to overcome the academic challenges of a top university as well as the rigors of Division 1 football. But for Mark Bradford, this was the easy part. Mark grew up in gang infested South Los Angeles without his father, who was incarcerated, or mother, who died when he was six. However, like many other young men in the neighborhood, Mark was able to turn to a local youth organization. West Coast Elite One Mentoring began working with at risk youths in Their sports and life skills programs, helped to positively influence the lives of many pre-teens in South Los Angeles. Mark and his teammates were able to win three National AAU championships with the West Coast Elite team. Other notable graduates of West Coast Elite One programs include NBA All-Star, Baron Davis, Bobby Brown and Craig Smith of the LA Clippers, Nick Young of the Washington Wizards, Dominic McGuire of the Sacramento Kings, and Marcus Williams of the Memphis Grizzlies. Recently, West Coast Elite One Mentoring partnered with DB Helping Hands, to reach out to even more young men and ladies living in LA and Orange Counties. But we need your help. 11 Format & Regulations The will be set as a four person, better ball scramble. Since there is no conceivable way to monitor all groups, we ask that scoring be reflective of your true score. We are playing for charity The following basic rules will apply to the 18 holes of play: Tournament Rules Men must hit from standard (white) tee box on all holes. Women may choose to hit from the ladies tees, or from the standard tee box. Normal rules of golf, and those particular to this course will apply. Please obey all hazard and out-of-bounds markings. Players will choose the best, or most suitable, ball to strike from the tee. Each successive player may then drop their ball within one club length of the best shot for their next shot, dropping no closer to the pin from the original ball placement, nor can the drop improve the ball s lie i.e. rough or sand trap to fairway. This will continue to the green where each person will putt, if necessary, from the best ball location on the green. The score for each hole will reflect the numbers of shots to make it into the hole after using the best-shot choice. There will be a longest drive, longest putt, and closet to the pin contest for prizes to be given away at the banquet. Players that make the best or longest shot on these holes will mark their name on the card provided at the hole, or on the fairway. Tournament Contest s Longest Drive The longest drive on the fairway will be marked down the center with the yardage. The small metal sign will be available for golfers to write their name if their drive has exceeded the previous group s drive. Closet to the Pin All four golfers in the foursome will have the opportunity to hit their ball as close to the pin as possible. A tape measure will be made available at the hole and distances are to be recorded in feet and inches (rounded up to the nearest inch). Hole-In One All four golfers in the foursome will have the opportunity to hit their ball for a Hole-In-One. Volunteers will be available to verify the skill. Helicopter Ball Drop A group of numbered golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter hovering over a preselected, make-shift hole on the at Black Gold Golf Club. The first golf ball I the hole or the one closed to the hole wins its owner a cool prize of 15% of the total amount collected of the ball drop.
